Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Amazon.com Review
"Travel writers are romantics," writes contributor Wendy Belcher, and if there is a common chord to the 40 essays in this collection culled from Salon.com's "Wanderlust" section, it's that a majority of the authors find a certain ardor in exotic locations perceived with curious and eager eyes. Some find it in the literal sense--Maxine Rose Schur reminisces about being passionate and penniless in Paris, Laura Fraser finds the perfect Italian lover to help her forget the husband who's abandoned her, and Simon Winchester charms a Romanian girl with his borrowed Rolls Royce. In pursuit of luxury, Po Bronson loses his Club Med virginity to go activity-surfing at the Turkoise Club. Then there's inspiration--Isabelle Allende travels to the Amazon in the hopes of ending a three-year writing block and David Kohn, well, he gets to sample the best pork ribs at the Memphis World Barbecue Cooking Contest. There are certainly satisfactions in these tales, if only as small vicarious thrills (originally tailored for the Web, they are indeed short and sweet). In truth, however, the real gems take travel and travel writing a little more seriously, or perhaps a little less, with an ever-present eye out for the ironies that plague travelers. Wendy Belcher's insightful essay does not actually dwell on romance but the embarrassment of discovering virtually all travel books about Africa open the same way, including hers. Tim Cahill makes clear the chasm between our lives and others when he experiences reverse culture shock in New York City after living with a remote tribe in South America. And in some truly hilarious reports, Susan Hack goes on a desperate hunt for Tampax in Yemen, Rolf Potts attempts to infiltrate the set of a Leonardo DiCaprio movie in Thailand, and Douglas Cruickshank takes a decadent blitzkrieg through England ("Indeed, the scene is so excruciatingly exquisite that I've got a good mind to call Mr. Merchant and Mr. Ivory and tell them to get their softly lit Panavision asses up here.") While travel writers may be romantics, thank goodness they can also be great fun. --Lesley Reed

Travel and Romance.......2004-06-01
Although the theme of Wanderlust is supposed to be the combination of travel and romance, editor Don George has chosen to define romance broadly. So while there are pieces here about conventional romance, such as Laura Fraser's Italian Affair, which she eventually expanded into a full-length book, there are also essays about love of books, of country, of food, and of travel itself. In other words, this is a garden-variety travel anthology. And it's a winner!
As with any anthology, you will enjoy some essays more than others. Some of my favorites were Taras Grescoe's Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder about drinking powerful absinthe in Spain, one of the few countries where it is still legally sold; How to Buy a Turkish Rug by Laura Billings about how the experience of haggling over a carpet was more important than the carpet itself; and Laura Fraser's Italian Affair, in which she actually pulls off the feat of writing the whole thing in the second person and makes it work.
Other outstanding entries include Tampax Nightmares by Susan Hack about finding tampons in countries that frown upon such evil devices; The Last Tourist in Mozambique by Mary Roach, who does yoga with the president; and Lisa Michaels's The Man Who Loved Books in Turkey about packing books for the journey and what happens to the books you leave behind.
I love to read anthologies, especially travel anthologies. You get to read some old favorites, read new pieces by authors you like, and discover new writers. Don George is always dependable as editor. In addition to this collection, try his A House Somewhere and The Kindness of Strangers.
overloaded on European spots.......2002-09-19
No doubt this is a great compilation but too much on European destinations. Even so anything by Salon.com is going to be first-rate it's just disappointing the focus was not more on the Third World as there's always too much on Europe in this field anyway.
great literary traveling.......2001-10-09
A fantastic book from a fantastic website. The stories from Europe seem strongest, including Bill Barich in Italy, Maxine Rose Schur in France, and Simon Winchester in Romania, but Wanderlust covers the entire globe, from 1st world to 3rd world, from the luxury of club med to the drug-fueled violence of Columbia.
While some stories lag behind, as should be expected with 40+ tales, there is certain to be something for everyone. One reviewer found Barry Yeoman's piece about lonliness in Spain and Karl Greenfeld struggle to stay sober in Thailand as two of the worst, but I would highlight the same pieces as two of my favorites.
For any wayward traveler forced to take a break from the road, salon.com's Wanderlust makes for a great escape.
GHOST STORY TERROR!.......2001-09-03
Travel books are the only books I make time to read these days and I read about 30 of them a year. I've just finished this one and have put it on my top ten list. I used to read Wanderlust in salon all the time and was sad to see it go. I was thrilled as hell to see an anthology of the best of Wanderlust. Pico Iyer and Laurie Gough are my favorite in this collection. I don't think I'll be able to sleep for a week after Laurie Gough's ghost story in Greece. The question now is, should I go to Naxos to find out if her story's true?
Joe Haschka is right on.......2001-04-25
I finished Wanderlust yesterday, and in reading Joe Haschka's review, he picked out both my favorite essays in this collection and the ones I found insufferable. There were several essays I thought were very good, and several that I wondered why they made it into the collection. I also didn't finish the essay on Africa travel writing-it read more like a second-grade college paper than a travel essay.

Product Description
--A Treasures Trove is a beautifully illustrated fairy tale suitable for parents and children of all ages about twelve forest creatures whose mates have disappeared after being crystallized by a dark dust that falls every evening. The forest creatures combine forces with Zac, the handsome woodcarver, Ana, his beautiful half-elf, half-human wife and their timid, chubby, winged doth, Pook to save the creatures and restore the dying forest. --Concealed in the pages of this wonderful, classically-written story, are the clues to twelve very real and very valuable treasures that are hidden around the continental United States -treasures similar to the crystallized Forest Creatures in the story -beautiful jewels worth over $1,000,000! --To find one of these fabulous jewels, decipher the clues in this story and go to an exact location to find a gold token. The gold token will give you the information you need to get your jewel. --The tokens are hidden around the continental United States at twelve separate locations. They are all easily accessible. The tokens are not buried but are cleverly hidden. Nothing should be disturbed in any way to find them. You wont need any special tools or knowledge for the hunt and you wont have to dig, pry, or move anything. Anyone who can read can discover the exact location of each treasure -just the way one of the characters does in the story. --This classically-styled story is enjoyable and meaningful for children and adults; it is all about family values, love and cooperation, loyalty and friendship, and its characters are fun. Parents will find themselves reading the story over and over to children at bedtime as they remind them not to be afraid of the dark. A Treasures Trove will be talked about for years to come. -A Treasures Trove teaches children the importance of saving the forests and working together to accomplish their goals.
Customer Reviews:
Better than "Masquerade".......2007-01-12
I also bought this book as a gift for my cousin and his son. I had bought it for myself previously, too. I don't feel this story plagiarizes "Masquerade". The treasure-hunt idea is the same, but other than that, it has nothing in common with "Masquerade." I like it better because in "A Treasure's Trove" the story is more enjoyable, with a good guy/bady guy story, and it's easier to understand.
Staying power?.......2005-11-09
Michael Stadther, A Treasure's Trove (Treasure's Trove Inc., 2004)
With most of the actual treasure now found, Stadther's preface is going to get more important as time goes on; the book will have to be judged as a story rather than as a treasure hunting guide. Which leads one, of course, to the question of how the story is.
It's not a bad little story, as these things go. Good guy has to fight bad guy because bad guy is doing terrible things to the forest and its inhabitants. Sounds like a lot of fantasy stuff, right? Well, that's both the good point and the bad point; it's familiar because you've read it before, though usually in much greater detail. Probably a good jumping-off point to get kids who aren't old enough for Narnia or the Lord of the Rings reading fantasy, but it's possible they'll be put off by the rather saccharine tone of the whole thing. ** ½

It breaks my heart to see such a good children's book being bashed!! It's a happy story.
A treasure's Trove: A fairy taile about Real Treasure for Parents and Children of All Ages.......2005-08-24
Our family has enjoyed this book very much. My first grader has been able to read quite a bit of it without too much help and understand the story. It has been a treasure to read together.
Plagarized Kit Williams' Masquerade.......2005-08-12
This is a rip-off of the British artist Kit William's book "Masquerade" that came out in the 1980's, and caused a massive treasure hunt all over England. The difference is Masquerade had beautiful detailed artwork on every page. This book does not.

Nice little book packed with info.......2006-03-13
There is tons of information in this book, especially for a 60 page book. It is laid out in an eye appealing style. Covers all kinds of escapes. It is written in a way that kids and adults can enjoy.
Informative, inteligent, and entertaining.......2005-05-03
Having first read this book in grade school, I bought it finally after I remembered the segment on Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad which I needed for a paper in college. It presents the stories behind various different escapists throughout history. The pictures and diagrams are of great quality as well. Overall, an excellent book that can both entertain and teach you at the same time.
Very Informative.......2000-08-28
it not only has some of the prison escapes like from Alcatraz, Colditz, the escape of Winston Churchill, it also has turban, the black woman who freed a huge number of slaves in america, the berlin wall, houndini, the guy who can escape from any kind of locks, straitjacket. and more of course. it tells of how they escaped, their methods used, a lot of colourful pictures of tools the captured used, and also maps showing the location of the prisons and where prisoners and slaves were held.

Amazing Adventures.......2002-03-23
Richard Platt has written books on a number of subjects as varied as photography, ornithology and smuggling. In this exciting collection of adventure stories, he dramatically recounts the true-life exploits of outstandingly brave individuals who pushed themselves to the limits of endurance.
There are three sections:
Discovery, Conquest and Loot
Dangerous Times in Wild Lands
To the Ends of the Earth and Beyond
Many of the stories are about the restless urge to wander, while others focus on desires to be famous or rich. For some adventurers, the hunger for excitement for life itself is what spurs them on to new territories and challenges.
"In 1963, scientists dug up 1,000-year-old Viking objects in Newfoundland, Canada. This suggests that Vikings-perhaps even "Lucky" Leif Eriksson-really did visit America five centuries before Christopher Columbus." -pg. 7
Adventurers include: Hannibal, Leif Eriksson, Marco Polo, Ibn Battuta, Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Hernan Cortes, Benvenuto Cellini, Miguel de Cerbantes, Moll Cutpurse, Claude Duval, Alexander Selkirk, Blackbeard, James Cook, Alexander von Humboldt, Lewis and Clark, Davy Crockett, Rene Caillie, Lakshmi Bai, Burke and Wills, Ned Kelly, Mary Kingsley, Amundsen and Scott, Manfred von Richthofen, Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, Thor Heyerdahl, Hillary and Tenzing, Yuri Gagarin and Armstrong and Aldrin.
Some of the most interesting stories:
Voyage around the Cape - where it is said Vasco da Gama threw the charts and navigational instruments into the sea and declared he did not need a navigator because God alone was the master and pilot. Days later, they rounded the Cape and turned northward, up Africa's east coast. Having stood at the top of Table Mountain and almost drowned in the ocean in Cape Town, I can say his adventure must have been truly harrowing. The ocean there is wild! After that vacation, we decided to head to safer waters.
The Real Robinson Crusoe - "I am cast upon a horrible desolate island, void of all hope of recovery." -Robinson Crusoe He scanned the horizon for ships until he finally saw the mastheads of two British sailing ships. To his horror, the ship disappeared into the darkness, but he was finally rescued days later.
An African Adventure - Where Mary feels sorry for a leopard and tries to release it. Once the leopard was freed it moved close to her and for a moment she was terrified. After commanding the leopard to go home, it obediently turned and slunk away. A hunter hiding in a tree thought she must be a goddess to command obedience from such a dangerous animal.
The illustrations bring the adventures to life. Each story is filled with gripping accounts of danger, dramatic full-color illustrations and color photographs of people, places and objects that put the stories in historical context.

Christian McEwen's introduction to this anthology examines the different origins of the word "tomboy," from a "high spirited romping girl" to a "bold or immodest" woman or prostitute. Only in the 19th century did the word take on the positive connotations of a girl who took "a wholesome delight in...playing at active games..." and could thus be applied to a girl like Jo March of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. In celebration of Jo-like girls, this anthology gathers more than 30 stories, essays, and prose poems from writers as diverse as Colette and Leslie Feinberg, Virginia Woolf and Linda Smukler, that describe the sometimes pre-dyke state of being a tree climber, a boat rower, a happy ruffian. This wide-ranging collection makes a strong case for the historical longevity of boyish, lesbian-in- the-making girls.
Book Description
Louisa May Alcott's energetic, ambitious, and androgynous Jo March has inspired generations of tomboys. But at the close of Little Women even Jo's valiant tomboy spirit has been subordinated to her role as wife and mother. For Jo's Girls, editor Christian McEwen has assembled a collection of fiction and memoir that looks at what it has really meant to be a tomboy from the nineteenth century to the present-and at what the refusal to turn into a "young lady" has implied. Contributors include: Toni Cade Bambara, Willa Cather, Sandra Cisneros, Colette, Simone de Beauvoir, Alexis De Veaux, Annie Dillard, Nadezhda Durova, Leslie Feinberg, Emily Hiestand, Maria Hinojosa, Teresa Jordan, Jamaica Kincaid, Maxine Hong Kingston, Anne LaBastille, Ursula K. Le Guin, Bia Lowe, Carson McCullers, Susan Moon, Toni Morrison, Alice Munro, Grace Paley, Minnie Bruce Pratt, Rose Tremain, Frances Willard, Opal Whiteley, Virginia Woolf

Jo's Girls - True to Life?.......2000-03-31
I picked up this book as the title reminded of one of my favorite childhood reads. I always considered myself as a "Jo March-esque" child and loved the tomboy ideas. However, I kept reading because the stories are strongly written and kept me thinking of the last heroine well into the next story. The whirlwind of experiences is a delight to read and I devoured them all!
Once I started to read one particular story, however, I was hooked. The short story of one woman returning to her childhood summer camp rang true. I now work full-time at that camp and I am excited to say that although things have changed, and will continue to do so, the ideologies of camping have remained the same.
The entire book was well-written as well as entertaining. It is an inspiration to know that women throughout the century have been struggling with the same misconceptions as we do.
A great read and a book that keep you thinking well after the cover is closed.
