The Only Astrology Book you'll ever Need.......2007-09-30
This is a fantastic book. I have already constructed charts for some of my friends and interpreted it for them. the book's interpretation of the natal chart is very thorough and unbelievably accurate. The book also provides deep insight and descriptions of how astrological interpretations work that is insightful into the deeper meaning underlying this cosmic tool.
For better or worse it is ALWAYS right!.......2007-08-23
This book is SO on! With any new relationship I check to see what the book predicts and for better or worse it is always right. Maybe I should pay more attention to what the book says and it would save me some time and heart ache ;) The title says it all really.
Very Helpful.......2007-08-23
I already knew the basics of Astrology, but this book and program has helped me a lot. Even my husband, who is very knowledgeable about Astrology, found it quite informative and easy to use
The title says it all.......2007-08-13
I had the original version of this book that was purchased for me at a used book store and I used it to death. When I found that there was an updated version with an interactive CD ROM, I had to have it, and it's wonderful. The CD ROM makes the whole chart experience so easy with page by page reference so that you can go right to the page that involves the person's chart you're working on. It really is the only astrology book you'll ever need. It has everything, and it's so easy to use and understand. I recommend it for anyone new or experienced in the world of astrology.
Lives up to the title.......2007-07-26
I received this as a Birthday gift a few years ago. Having glanced over the tripe presented within, I soon decided that it probably IS the 'only' astrology book I'll ever need. Four years on and I have still not been struck with an urge to seek additional counsel...

A Good Introduction to the Trail of Tears.......2006-10-18
This is a worthy introduction to the Trail of Tears. For students aged 12 and older, a more compelling book is Walking the Trail, One Man's Journey Along the Cherokee Trail of Tears by Cherokee author Jerry Ellis. He was the first person in modern history to walk the 900 mile route and the book, nominated for a Pulitzer and National Book Award, has been in print for 15 years. The author lectures around the globe on the Trail, having presented in Asia, Africa, Europe and throughout the US.
Powerful Reading.......2004-10-30
I fully agree with Shannon, this book is a must for anyone wanting to see what was done to Native Americans in the South at the hands of whites and especially Andrew Jackson's policy of destruction of our people. We are trying to trace the family ancestry of a child (my great great grandmother) who was taken from a Trail of Tears family and "adopted" by a white preacher. She may have been saved from the Trail of Tears but not from the dispicable way in which she was treated during her lifetime subsequently. Shannon, I hope you email me!
My Roots.......2000-09-05
I have read the book Only The Names Remain many many times. I am of Cherokee blood and my roots are from Oklahoma. I was very interested in my history when I was younger and I found this book in my library. It tells so much about what has happened to the Cherokees throughout those tough years. While reading it to my Grandma she pointed out that my Great Great Great Grandfather was a Cherokee Chief and is talked about in the book. In the older versions there is also a black and white drawing of him. Because of this book, I can tell my grandchildren and my children the interesting story of how their grandfather saved President Andrew Jackson's life in a battle before he became president. I'm so glad that a book like this was written to tell both the good and the bad of the Cherokee life. It makes me wish that I could learn more and more about it.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful, but flawed.......2007-08-18
To be brief: This is a wonderful book for those who love the really old and rare motorcycles of the pre-WW2 era. I don't know of anything else in print which even comes close to the scope and depth of this work. So buy a copy!
Unfortunately, the other, more critical reviewers are also correct: there are surprising gaps in this historical review - even where the author obviously intended to provide the missing material - and there are errors of fact. The publisher needs to hire some better editors, and the author really should produce a corrected, more genuinely comprehensive 2nd edition ASAP.
My greatest disappointment with this edition was the book's cheap paperback production: The content, mostly old ads and photos of really rare bikes, fully deserves glossy paper and the highest quality reproductions to preserve this information. I personally would be happy to pay twice as much for such a volume.
But all criticisms aside, what we have here is still invaluable. If you are a fan of old mototcycles, you will want this book - even in such a flawed edition.
Standard Catalog of American Motorcycles 1898-1981.......2006-06-19
I just received this book as a Father's Day Gift and I spent a couple of hours going through it. If you are into older American bikes this is a treasure of info that any restoration guy would love. Lots of pictures, ads and old photos, sadly none in color, but that's my only snivel. This should be in every antique bike fans library as a excellant resource if only for the pictures alone.
Short-Changed.......2006-05-21
I was excited when I saw this book at my local book store and after flipping throught it made an immediate decision to purchase. I wish now I had looked at it a little longer before buying. There are parts of this book that I just loved and parts that I hated... because they were not there. While I feel that this has the potential to be a wonderful reference overall, I feel short-changed because of the sections missing which dealt with some important bikes. This is in spite of the advertising on the back cover which clearly states that it contains information on every American motorcycle made in the relevent time frame. For example, this book divides the Excelsior chapter into two parts. It covers Excelsior from 1907 to 1924 and states on the bottom of page 105 that "The Super-X is treated as a seperate marque later in the book." Well, it's not there. The 15 page section they did on the big Excelsior is wonderful, but Excelsior's Super-X is nowhere to be found. I felt cheated. If they had done half as good covering the "Super-X" as they had done with the earlier Excelsiors, I would have been very happy. Also missing is the section covering the Yale motorcyle. Page 25 says "Yale data are contained within the Yale section." Well, once again there is no Yale section. Overall, an important work.... fatally flawed by omissions.
Inaccurate research........2006-04-30
The book in general is full of inaccuracies. For example, the section on the Rokon Trail-breaker is mostly fiction. The author attributes the creation of the Trail-breaker to J.B. Nethercutt and his two sons. This is absolutely false. Charles Fehn of Thousand Oaks, California invented it not the Nethercutts. Nethercutt owned the company that was its first mass producer not its inventor.
cover picture.......2006-03-29
I was very disappointed when I got my book and on the cover wasn't the 1937 Harley as it showed when I ordered it, but an Indian. What's with that?

This best-selling encyclopedia is the definitive Who’s Who of cinema, with everything you will ever need to know about major and behind-the-scenes players. It’s packed with biographical profiles of actors and actresses, directors, producers, editors, and other key figures. "Halliwell’s Who’s Who in the Movies" also features filmographies, entries on the major studios and the foreign film industry, a history of the cinema, and information on all the major film awards, including a list of Oscar winners and nominations. Opinionated, witty, and packed with more information than any other film guide, it’s as wonderfully unclassifiable as it is impossible to put down.

Not up to date.......2007-09-11
I looked at this latest edition of Halliwell's Who's Who in the Movies and was very suprised to discover that
the entry on Janet Leigh made no mention of her death. Since Janet Leigh died in October, 2004 and this edition was published in May, 2006 the expertise of the contributors is, in my opinion, very suspect.
One can only assume that the book contains many other errors or omissions.
Halliwell's Who's Who in the Movies.......2007-08-25
An excellent compendium of Who's Who in the movies, entertaingly edited by John Walker. A couple of names I would like to have seen in the listings are Peggy Evans, who starred with Dirk Bogarde in THE BLUE LAMP,
and Pearl Argyle, dancer/actress. Maybe in the next edition !
Halliwell's who's who in the movies.......2007-05-14
An very complete information souce on the people who are and were in the movies.
A must for everyone who needs information.
Halliwell's Who's Who in the Movies.......2007-01-18
Great reference, but a little unwieldy. Big and heavy for a paperback.
THE QUALITY IS IN DECLINE!.......2006-06-04
I first purchased "Halliwell'Filmgoers Companion" in 1965 and loved it right off.Mr.Leslie Halliwell write with wit and deep love of films, especially those from the "classic period",his "reviews" of Brute Force and Of Mice and Men(among others)lead me to get hooked into these two films, his writings on John Ford were insightful.Since Mr.Halliwell's death in 1989,with Mr.Walker taking over as editor the quality has steadily declined. The best part of the book are those that retained from Mr.Halliwell's writings.Over the years I have purchased Mr.Halliwell's edition every two years(or so)when a new edition was published, since his death I usually skip an edition before buying a new version.Depite its overall quality decline it is still the movie encyclopedia around.

Mind blowing.......2007-09-19
This is probably one of the best books by Barry Long I have read, it makes you start thinking about the nature of you, and how much we are programmed by soceity. Maybe think is not a good word to use because barry long thinks that thinking is a psychological disease. So read this book, start to meditate and stop to think, that the way to penetrate into your own being.
Enjoy the journey
No compromise in Truth.......2005-09-07
I haven't finished this book yet but am blown away by Barry's directness, integrity and the deep resonance of Truth in his words. This truly is Wisdom for the Western mind. No gurus, no mantras, no spiritual baggage - just the Truth, straight and simple. How the world needs this now....
But Barry's message is only for those who are ready to hear it. I imagine his uncompromising directness and 'zero tolerance' spirituality will deter those who are not prepared for it. Not many people seem ready to hear that they've no right to be unhappy, or that they're entirely responsible for their unhappiness.
A brilliant book. Thank you so much Barry Long.
Stunningly original insights into the cause of unhappiness.......2002-03-20
Barry Long's words have got a quality that penetrated me deeply. i found that even when i had finished this book, I kept going over what he had said and saw that it was all the truth. I've never heard anyone talk about the personality like this before, at first i was intrigued. After a while it actually gets a little uncomfortable, it made me look at myself so deeply, more deeply than i ever have before. It gave me insight to how my emotions really work and after reading this I no longer feel as though there is some force beyond me that controls my life and makes me unhappy. This book changed me! d I'm amazed by how much freer i am, it really works! Who doesn't want to be happier? Everyone should read this book, it's absolutely brilliant. Barry must be either totally enlightened or a genius.
Barry Long's Darkness will show you the light........2000-04-04
Barry Long relentlessly hammers you with Truth. When I read this book, I periodically flipped as he pointed out the obvious to the oblivious with deadly accuracy. From guiding us not to tell our sad story, through the crazed media minefields, to the slithering souls waiting to incarnate, Master Long will do something to you. It is up to you to find out what....

Pirate reality check.......2007-01-12
After my 3 year old got through the romantic and child presentations of pirates he really liked this book because he's in the "why" phase. This book explains a lot of practicalities of being a pirate in a way young kids can understand.
Ahoy mateys! A fine book!.......2006-08-22
I bought this book for a homeschool unit study on Pirates and it is wonderful. The pictures are beautiful and the book itself is very informative. It does contain a lot of "new" vocabulary words, but the book also includes a glossary.
A Pirate's Life for Me!: A Day Aboard a Pirate Ship.......2003-09-10
This book is so popular on the Seacoast of New Hampshire because, the real-life pirate of Brownie Macintoch, performer and songwriter, comes along with this book. He and Julie are a fixture of children's summer entertainment. (Check out www.juliebrownie.com)This book is a realistic portrait of a pirate without the details that are not necessary for young children. If this book interests a child, more books are available that have "those kinds" of details and others that are more gentle.
It Could Be Better!!!.......2003-08-09
First off I want to say I loved the sea chanty tape. The book would have been better if it had a story line or gave more explanations. I've been reading about pirates for a few years, and I know some of the statements were wrong according to the books I've read. However the pictures are colorful and bright. And most young children would enjoy this simple book about pirates even though it's not quite cohesive or accurate. I will recommend this book for the younger children who are interested in piracy and need an introduction to history. A few months ago I read an excellent novel to my 5th grade granddaughter that was based on documentation and included photos. It was titled THE DIARY OF A SLAVE GIRL, RUBY JO and was about the week Blackbeard and his men on 4 ships held Charlestonians hostage to obtain medicine for his crews. That book had a good story, wonderful slave children characters, was funny, and entertaining! I recommend that one to anyone 10 and up.
Great Pirate Book!.......2003-08-07
My 9 year old son (who loves pirate stories) and I enjoy this book so much. It offers a true depiction of pirate life with some graphic details that have made my son want to read other books containing pirate history and lore. I think the best children's books are the ones that make kids want to keep on reading and learning. I highly recommend this book.
Book Description
February 1806: Vice-Admiral Sir Richard Bolitho carries the news of Trafalgar to southern Africa, where he is to aid British ground forces in any way he can to retake Cape Town from the Dutch. Impatient to be home, Bolitho decides yet again that the boldest measures are best, and proves to the army that brave men do not die in vain.
Customer Reviews:
A preoccupied Bolitho.......2002-06-24
This is by far the longest book in Kent's Bolitho series. Unlike most books earlier in the series Bolitho spends considerable time on shore iintimately nvolved with his illicit love, Catherine, and then when he is at sea again passionately longing for her. The brave stories of a scared little midshipman who eventually finds his courage, or the lieutenant who excels despite having lost half his face are nearly lost behind Bolitho's obsessive anxieties over his separation from the bold Catherine. Bolitho, now half blinded, is showing signs of tiring and retiring. The series has become a study in the accumulated effects of endless time at sea and in fighting sharp and desperate actions. Bolitho, always deeply concerned with his men, has progressively lost the closest colleagues on whom he had depended, "we happy few," an' that's no error. Still there are flashes of the old outer heroics while fighting the Dutch for Cape Town, on a secret mission to Copenhagen, and coming to the rescue of his troubled friend Herrick at sea.
A good series gone bad.......2001-01-04
I read the first 16 or 17 Bolitho books in a hurry, 4 or 5 years ago, and enjoyed them quite a bit. Recently I picked up this one and was very disappointed. Rather than a good story of action and history, that I had come to expect from the author, this recent edition was dedicated almost entirely to Bolitho and Catherine mooning about each other and lamenting their separations.
Publishers padding particularly poor.......2000-11-13
I have read the Hornblower series twice and the Aubrey/Maturin series three times and I looked forward to reading another Britanic Naval series when I began Kent's Bolitho series. The series began strong but towards the end (somewhere around "Success to the Brave") the series started running out of gas. It appeared to me that the publishers requested Kent to pad the books with inane story lines (or they themselves committed the sin) in order to extend the series (at nearly US$15/book) to increase their profit. I got to the point that when I read the one of many over used phrases, such as "blood ran from the scuppers as if the ship itself was mortally wounded", I put the book down in disgust. Futhermore, I would occasionally read a few pages that reminded me of the better written books that began the series, affirming my belief that a much less talented individual had a hand in the completion of the series. I suggest to anyone looking for another Aubrey/Maturin series to pick up O'Brian's "Master and Commander" and reread that series. However, if you do pick up the Bolitho series stop investing in the books when it becomes obvious to you that the publishers are padding the stories.
NAVAL WARFARE IN THE AGE OF NELSON.......1999-06-24
The story takes place four months after the battle of Trafalgar and the death of Lord Nelson. The main character is Vice Admiral Richard Bolitho, an aristocrat and one of the rising stars in the British navy. Bolitho is a complicated and compelling figure; with a heart as big as one of his ships of the line, he is also a ruthless and calculating warrior/officer ,seemingly capable of any action that will accomplish the mission. Bolitho is in society's disfavor because of his open liason with a married woman,( an obvious parallel with Nelson's obsession with Lady Hamilton) he is protected by his superior officers , at least professionally, because he gets results. This is the inner tension of the story and Kent handles the love interest with taste and flair. The supporting characters are fleshed out with the same detail as Bolitho, and are never predictable. Like most military leaders of that age, Bolitho leads by the strength of his personality, and no one is neutral in their feelings about him: they love him and will follow him into the worst hell or they will hate and envy him. Bolitho for his part is portrayed as almost the ideal of a best friend, you know he will literally die for you if neccessary. Having said this, Bolitho is also aware of his effect on others and is human enough to manipulate them if that will bring success to the mission. The battle scenes describing the almost point blank range these ships fought at are some of the best ever written (however, both O'brian and Kent are outdistanced by Forrester's single word picture of Hornblower frantically "striking" his colors after a battle in which 75% of his crew is killed; thats tops) and Kent's historical accuracy goes along way to put you there. The author is a member of the British upper class and the precision with which he speaks to us (even across the social spectrum from Vice Admiral to the most common "tar" ) has the other two main competitors O'brian and Forrester beat. The audio version of this title read by Michael Jayston is the perfect union of author and narrator. Jayston has that George Sanders type of inflection to his accent (slightly sinister ?) that transports you to Feb.1806. Most of these titles were written in the sixties and have been long out of print. Resurected with new interest, many are available through " MCBOOKS" in an elegant but expensive format. If your budgit allows it, these are fine produtions and easy to read (when I read all these books in the sixties and seventies I did not need glasses!). 5 stars for the book. 6 stars for the Audio version with Michael Jayston.....happy reading Cal Caligiuri
Book Description
Few Hollywood memoirs have offered as distinctive and candid a perspective on the film industry as producer and studio executive Mike Medavoy's You're Only As Good As Your Next One. Here is a deeply personal history of four decades in American film, told by a pivotal player in the creation of more than three hundred films -- or, as Medavoy distinguishes them, "one hundred great films, one hundred good films, and one hundred for which I should be shot." Included are eight Best Picture Oscar winners. On all of them, he knows the behind-the-scenes dramas, who got credit for whose achievements, and who didn't get credit but should have.
His ties to four major studios mirror the most fascinating chapters in American filmmaking. At United Artists, he and his partners were behind the creative revolution of the hot young directors of the 1970s, and they backed such seminal films as Apocalypse Now, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Rocky. At Orion Pictures, he backed such '80s smashes as Amadeus, The Terminator, Platoon, and The Silence of the Lambs. He navigated the '90s corporate culture at TriStar Pictures, green-lighting Philadelphia and Sleepless in Seattle. Now at his own Phoenix Pictures, the producer of such acclaimed works as The People vs. Larry Flynt and The Thin Red Line controls his destiny, but never strays far from controversy. Medavoy pulls no punches in telling his story of financial and political maneuvering, great triumphs and the inevitable disasters, and working with the industry's brightest star power including Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Milos Forman, Jonathan Demme, Francis Coppola, John Milius, Terrence Malick, Kevin Costner, Tom Hanks, Jane Fonda, Warren Beatty, Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Sharon Stone, Michael Douglas, Meg Ryan, Dustin Hoffman, and countless others.
This is also the story of how movie studio buyouts have stymied the creative process and shaped the future of film. Gone is the hands-off golden age that spawned some of the most influential and successful films of our time. An eyewitness to Hollywood history in the making, Mike Medavoy gives a powerful and poignant view of the past and future of a world he knows intimately.

You're Only as Good as Your Next One by Mike Medavoy.......2005-06-17
Mike Medavoy's Bio is a very good educational book
Dear Sirs:
(...) I spend all my days after school and during the week-ends watching movies at home with my friends and our parents. We like, especially, all the Mike Medavoy's movies: Holes, Apocalypse Now, Rocky, Basic, Robocop, Cliffhanger, The 6th Day, Apt Pupil, The Thin Red Line, Terminator, Hook, Platoon... We like his movies because he is a producer with conscience. For these reasons I think that the Mike Medavoy's Bio is a very good educational book. This book really deserves to be distributed in all the Schools, Colleges and Universities of Cinema of the Country (Hey, teacher, thank you!).
Plus I really think that Mr. Medavoy is a Good Man, a Good Son, a Good Father and a Good Friend. He never judge the other People (he just writes the history) and he is always helping a lot of great talents. He is an unique human being in Hollywood. Mike Medavoy knows how to do movies with an extraordinary talent and with great love.

Did not like this book.......2005-02-16
This book was not compelling and the story of Mike Medavoy simply not interesting. It seems like his life has always been about himself. After all, he's married a half a dozen times, continues to cheat, has kids who are a mess and he is grotesque. So if you are going to learn form somebody read about Ted Turner, Jack Warner...Medavoy shouldn't have a book deal in the first place. This was a total waste of my time.
Book Description
Everyone would agree the one and only Declaration of Independence deserves the best. After all, it's at the heart of our country. But since it was signed in 1776, the Declaration has had as many ups and downs as the United States itself. It has been rolled up, copied, hidden away and traveled by horseback, sailing vessel, mail truck, railroad car and military tank. After being front and center of a new nation, it has escaped two British invasions and survived for more than two centuries of both peaceful times and devastating wars. What a journey! And it remains proudly the one and only Declaration of Independence.
Judith St. George, author of So You Want to Be President?, and Will Hillenbrand give readers a witty and wonderfully illustrated true story of the invincible Declaration, giving heroic testimony to the grit and determination of the country itself.A fun and fascinating way to share the history of the document that gave the American people their freedom.
Customer Reviews:
Wow! What a book!.......2005-08-19
I'm an armchair historian who's also interested in children's literature and so I'm always on the lookout for lively kids' books on the topics that interest me. Yesterday, just by chance, I came across this book at the library and after looking at just a couple of pages, I checked it out immediately. I knew I'd truly enjoy it, but I assumed it wouldn't interest my kids, who are focused on enjoying the last days of summer. They want to read manga, not history. Imagine my surprise then when once we were back in the car and headed for home my teenage son picked up this book, pointed out a funny picture to his sister (also teenaged) and then began to read its especially funny and interesting bits out loud. We all got so involved in it that he started to read it to us word for word. Now all five members of my family - we range in age from 9 to 47 - have read it.
And so I give this book my heartiest recommendation. This is a very lively read, packed with facts and enlivened by very colorful illustrations, which are not just attractive but worth looking at very closely. (One of the things I like best about this book is that its words and pictures work hand in hand - you learn from both.) The author's writing style is very interesting. I love her use of interesting words like wingding. I'm impressed by her very clear description of some big ideas (she describes the process of engraving in just three or four sentences).
I know that because this is a picture book it will most likely be read mostly not by but to small children. But I think it deserves a much broader audience. It would be a great place for any student writing a report about the Declaration to start. It would also make a great gift for anyone with a sense of humor who's especially interested in the Revolution, Thomas Jefferson, or the Declaration. Five stars from me.
