A Must Read for Investors.......2004-05-14
This book has a refreshingly commonsense approach to investing. It contains a great deal of worthwhile advice and wisdom from some of the world's best investors. I am not an experienced investor, however I found it to be understandable and learned useful information from it. I would highly recommend it.
A Classic "Must Read" Investment Book.......2004-04-15
Nikki Ross has documented principal strategies and investing advice from the great Wall Street legends of our time. I have found the underlying principals of Buffet and his mentors as well as Price and Templeton to be very helpful. It is an easy to read enjoyable book. It may not be for day traders in general, but they could benefit from the list of questions asked by the masters before investing. I believe that had many investors read and applied this book prior to and during the recent crash, they might have saved a lot of money.
Blake Conant
Just read the "Evaluation" part.......2004-03-07
This book discusses on the techniques Warren Buffet (value/growth), Benjamin Graham (value), Phil Fisher (growth), T. Rowe Price (growth), and John Templeton (growth use or have used to make their fortunes.
The book is divided into 6 parts on one each of these legends and another on how to combine the knowledge of these experts. The sections are organized in an interesting way first off you learn what some of the stocks the well known investor has bought and why they met their purchasing criteria. There is also a nice 3 steps to how you can use their methods in your investments, this in turn is organized by:
1. Gathering information (this part it almost worthless in my opinion since it is very similar for each of the investors)
2. Evaluate (this is the best part of each of the areas in the book, you learn the questions these masters would ask a company and themselves. It's very good.)
3. Making decisions discusses how the masters decide when to buy and sell the stock.
This book and "The Money Masters" by John Train are interesting reads if you enjoy learning about the careers and wisdom these masters are willing to share.
I believe this book wouldn't be very useful for strict CAN SLIM investors or day traders but good for the buy and hold or long term growth and value investors it definitely shows you some of the possibilities.
Reed Floren
Worthless.......2004-02-26
This book is worthless. The true 'lessons' make up only a few pages of the book and these lessons are not detailed enough to make financially sound decisions. For example, a lesson such as "What is the PE Ratio?" is similar to what you would find in the book. OK, the PE ratio is 3. Is that good? Is that bad? How about 40? What is high? What is low? Do current interest rates effect PE ratio levels? What is an acceptable PE ratio for a growth stock? What is an acceptable PE ratio for a cyclical stock? You'll get no answers from this book.
The best "lessons" section (though still unacceptable) came from John Templeton. But these were a direct quote from an interview Templeton gave the Christian Science Monitor. The author must have spent a few weeks writing this book.
Most of the book is babble, reproduction of articles/reports, duplication of previous sections, and educational definitions for the newbie.
My lesson to you is to take the money you were going spend on this book and go buy a U.S. Savings bond. You will be richer and wiser in the end.
Not all its cracked up to be..........2004-02-23
...- I bought the book BUT Nikki Ross gives a basic three-step approach to investing, that is repeated throughout the book. 1. Collect info, 2. Analyse info, 3. Make a decision. And that's about as complex as the book gets.
Don't waste your money, unless you're after a very simplistic overview of investing. ALL OF THE FIVE STAR REVIEWS OVERRATE THIS BOOK - 1 Star (at best).
...
If you're after real value on practical management implementation tools that link strategy & financial numbers then YOU HAVE TO INVEST IN "Performance Measurement & Control Systems for Implementing Strategy" by Robert Simons.

It's In Black and White.......2006-12-29
Somehow I missed the part where I was informed the book was in black and white. Major disappointment. The lack of color is a big deal. Be warned. Hey don't get me wrong, I love Spider-Man. He's my favorite but I'm letting people know that the book is not in color. I would think that that would be a good thing to know before anyone buys it.
decay happens........2006-12-28
When Stan Lee bowed out, Gerry Conway took over. Then a young talent who struggled to find his place in the marvel universe. His writing was stiff and clunky. Of course the death of Gwen Stacy has some drama but "worm eating scum" is hardly clever writing. John Romita continues with Gil Kane and some others who prove impressive in style. I like Kane quite a bit. While his sketchy style and inability to render a face are problematic, his layouts are brilliant and he really unstiffens John Romita's art. However when Ross Andre took over, it was a serious decay in quality. Andre is a competent artist who tried to maintain the style of John Romita but that's it. Otherwise it's abismal to see both John and Stan leave Spiderman to far less talented people.
Storylines are mediocre at best. The death of Gwen could have been handled with much more drama and a long-term storyline but instead Peter is linked to Mary Jane. The reason for the death of Gwen was due to both John Romita and Gerry (and Stan at times) finding Mary Jane far more interesting to work with. Oh if they understood.
Spidey at some of his BEST and worst moments!.......2006-11-11
Once you get past the black & white pages (there is much to be said about how color enhances comicbook artwork), the Marvel Essentials stories really manage to pull you in.
Volume 6 has some of Spidey's best storylines ever in Amazing Spider-Man. The pinacle would have to be the character defining two-parter with the Death of Gwen Stacy at the hands of the Green Goblin. Powerful stuff even 30 years later. Other classic villains make appearances as well from Doc Ock to The Tarantula to the Molten Man and Hammerhead and the introduction of The Punisher and The Jackal. Of course there's also some rough spots in the reading like the plotline that had Doc Ock marrying Aunt May...shudder...silly...but keep reading and you'll find a good time with every turn of the page.
Two Goblins, a Death, and LOSTA EXPLOSIONS!!!.......2006-07-22
One of the BEST Spider-man Essentials, I gotta say...the stuff in here is GOOD! We open up with a couple issue arc involving Aunt May, Doc Ock and Hammerhead, move over into the Destroyer story, a two-issue Spidey and the Hulk BEAT-'EM UP in Canada, then KAPOW!! The Green Goblin returns, kills Gwen Stacy, turns the comic book universe into the dark side of the moon, and subsequently dies at his own hands (later retconned in...that...clone saga...ugh...) And from there it's a riptide of friends, foes, and heartache all in the classic Spidey fashion! From Man-Wolf to the PUNISHER (cough cough) to the Tarantula and the Molten Man, to the return of Liz Allen and the Vulture's sickening schemes, Doc Ock and Aunt May's marriage (WHAT??!!!), all concluding in a nice little, innocent two issue story where we learn (Although they build up to it for about 14 issues) that Peter's best friend has gone insane, rigged himself in the kooky outfit that Gwen Stacy's killer wore, and threatens to destroy everything Spidey holds dear!
Well now, the writing of this milestone in Spidey history is okay, I liked Stan the Man better, but Conway takes up the stead all right, although killing one of the nicest characters in the Spidey mythos makes him branded for sure. This begins with Gil Kane's art, which is now (thankfully) a LOT better than his TERRIBLE run from Spidey #99-105 (He did alright in the issues before that...doesn't make sense) and slowly moves in to Ross Andru's art which I actually like EXCEPT for when he once drew Mary Jane...yuck.
All in all, this is a great collection that any Spidey fan should surely add to their collection.
Disregard the Gil Kane tirade..........2005-09-15
He is considered by many, including myself, to be one of the GREATEST comic-book pencillers EVER. The man has a point- it IS generally accepted that kane's faces are some of the worst in the biz... they seem to have "snouts," I kid you not - but his layouts, composition, and anatomy (don't know WHERE that guy gets off) are brilliant. In fact, I find Kane's spidey to be one of the best renditions of the post-silver age, and LOTS of people seem to agree... and spidey doesn't even HAVE a nose while in costume, so Kane's facial eccentricities don't even come into play as it concerns our favorite web-headed wallcrawler. Jeez, the gall to dis GIL KANE...?!?! Next we'll be hearing how "terrible" Ross Andru's work was, and how "flawlessly rendered" Frank Miller's initial attempts at Spidey were...sheesh!
If anything, the WRITING is pretty weak and dated in these stories... I gotta go with the guy who was talking about Morbius being one of the most ridiculous spidey villains EVER! But classics are classics, and this is as classic as they come, so if you like spidey, pick it up already!
Book Description
A comprehensive study of the Druids, from their earliest history to the present-day renaissance.
Customer Reviews:
This book is Crap. .......2005-09-15
Crap.
The Book of Druidry by Ross Nichols was a huge disappointment for many reasons. Many of its assertions have been proven false by scholars, archeologists, and historians. It's like Nichols got most of his information from sources published in the 19th century and certainly before 1950. And it's just a big advertisement for OBOD in a lot of ways. In my opinion, this book is crap and not worth a dime, much less the price on the cover.
Modern Druidic History .......2005-01-25
This book is a must-have not because of its many historical/archeological inaccuracies but because it was one of the first produced by someone in recent history proclaiming to be following a Druidic Way. No one truly knows what the ancient druids did or believed with any exactness. It's left up to Anthropology and its constant flux of theories in order to interpret archeological finds versus historical documents and data to come up with a possible answer. Even so, no Anthropologist will tell you that there science leads to truth.
I think that some reviewers think other folk are stupid. The title of this book gives it all away. This is a book about "Druidry" and not really about the ancient historical persons known as druids. I had no misconceptions when reading this book. I knew it was a modern/romantic view of the druid religion through the eyes of someone who was part of the Ancient Order of Druids as well as the Martinist Order. As far as I know Ross Nichols was not a historian with a PhD from Oxford with scholarly publications in peer reviewed journals. As such I do not expect that kind of scholarly material in his work. I look more for the history of romantic Druidry and a peek into his spiritual path. I also expect to find (within this book) the cumulative lore and rituals as found within the AOD and his OBOD.
Purchase this book before it goes out of print!
Wow..........2002-12-27
this book was more than I anticipated. i didn't know anyone who could fit that much information in any type of book Ross does it well and keeps it interesting. A must for anyone wishing to know history and druidism...
Book of MODERN Druidry.......2000-07-12
Modern druidry traces its roots to the early 1700's and that is the tradition that this book is about. The Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids is still around and going strong and this book seems to be an introduction to the Order.
All that aside, it is a good read. A wealth of ideas, this book can be one step on your spiritual path. Or it can be just an interesting book about modern druids. Regardless of your beliefs, if you have any interest in the subject this is a good book.
There are many other books available if you are interested in historical druids- "The Druids" by Stuart Piggott, for example.
Misleading Title.......2000-03-23
The Book of Druidry claims to be a history of an ancient religious system. In fact, the book presents a modern blend of New Age approaches, pop psychology, Nicholls' own ideas, and the well-intended but inaccurate writings of 18th century antiquarians such as John Toland and William Stukeley. For example, Nicholls and Carr-Gomm present druidry as a prehistoric system of belief that they say originated on Atlantis, was practiced by the builders of Stonehenge, and was adopted later by Celtic settlers in Britain. Such statements contradict all the archaeological, linguistic, and historical evidence that document the druids as the clergy of the pre-Christian Celts. Another imaginative idea asserted as fact in this book is that the Ce/li De/, a monastic reform movement of ninth-century Ireland, was actually founded by the sixth-century saint Colum cille as a refuge for persecuted druids and a vehicle for preserving druidry for future generations. If you are seeking accurate information in an easy-to-read format, try Miranda Green's _The World of the Druids_ or Barry Cunliffe's _The Ancient Celts_. For more depth, see Anne Ross's _Pagan Celtic Britain_, Green's _The Celtic World_, and _The Celts_ ed. by Moscati. The facts about the druids are intriguing in themselves; there's no need to manufacture a history for them.

A must read.......2007-10-09
I first read this book in 1997,I couldn't put it down, there is a warning there, this can happen in America.
Americas federal gun control laws are copies of the Nazi gun control law of 1936,it was introduced by Senator Christopher Dodds father during his term in the 1960's.
Dodd, the father, was part of a Neuremberg military group, and had access to Nazi documents.
Wonderful Book.......2007-09-07
I first read this book in Sept. 2000 after buying it from Amazon. I remember that because I wrote the date on the fly leaf. Since then, I've read the book four more times, the last time about a year ago. Time to do it again. I've referred it to numerous friends and family members, and all have been glad that I did.
To reiterate what has been stated in so many other reviews, this book was to me disturbing, exciting, historically accurate, and educational. And more adjectives apply. The basic description is just "good." A good book. One of the very best, in fact, that I've read in fifty-or-so years. And that's quite a few books of all genres. I obviously do not agree with the negative reviews. Even the the sexually explicit scenes serve a point in this book. It is not bigoted, nor antisemitic, nor racist, though the author expertly and accurately describes bigotry, antisemitism, and racism as they apply. And there's a reason why he does that. Discover the reason.
Raised in a family immersed in what Ross calls the "gun culture," my brothers and I took for granted guns, shooting, hunting, reloading, etc. We went to school in the era when guns could be bought in a hardware store, from the Sears-Roebuck catalog, and from J.C. Penny "big book" without any "paperwork" except a simple purchase receipt, and when one could take his .22 rifle or shotgun to school for use in hunting when school dismissed. Hence, we lived through a part of the era described in the book, and have seen the incremental changes in civil rights, gun laws, and attitudes toward guns, running the spectrum of guns when they were viewed as essential household tools to being viewed as politically incorrect (as I describe the current situation)and almost totally taboo in "polite society."
As a current retiree and still a member of the gun culture, I read this book with great interest; and found it to be so disturbing that I read it again; and then, of course, again and again. My view is that if you own a gun, you have to read it; and if you don't, then you still should read it. If you don't "believe" in guns(I've always wondered how one can "believe" or "not believe" in guns, any more than one can "believe" or "not believe" in power tools, as dangerous as some of them can be.), try it anyway. It is bound to enlighten, at the least. This book is as much about civil rights -- all of them -- as it is about only guns. As so many have said in other reviews, this is a book that Americans should read, regardless of their points-of-view on guns. Alas, I should not exclude the Brits and the Aussies -- and others -- considering the incremental erosion of civil rights extant in those countries -- It is worth the time spent.
Bon voyage.
Well thought out and written.......2007-08-23
this is an eye opener, but in the same time it is a well written book, read it, enjoy it and learn from it..
Product Review.......2007-08-16
Book was just as advertised, fast delivery, arrived in perfect condition. Thanks for a good buying experience.
Good History Lessons.......2007-08-06
The first part of the book tells a lot of the history of gun control in the USA. The rest tells just how bad too powerful a government can be to individuals who want only freedom and liberty.

Save your Money.......2007-07-12
This graphic novel contains the conclusion to the Galactic Storm series, which was originally published by Marvel in the Annual issues of their various on-going series (Capt America, Avengers, Thor, etc...). As a rule of thumb story lines that involve Annual issues from multiple comic series are wretched.
This one is no exception. The story telling is choppy, because each Annual covers one hero (or set of heroes). The art is middling to bad, again because its an Annual; Marvel and DC feel its ok to let quality slip. Marvel even managed to get two of the issues in this book out of order.
Go ahead, buy it. I dare you.

Book Description
Ross here presents a comparative historical study of European neutrality policy with special reference to the problem posed to neutral countries by the imposition of international collective sanctions. The study takes the form of an extended and detailed comparative examination of Swedish and Swiss responses to the League of Nation's embargo against Italy in 1935-36 and the United Nation's sanctions against Rhodesia in 1965-79. Through this analysis, the author explores how and why Swedish and Swiss policies toward sanctions have differed over time and what these differences reveal about neutrality policy in general, particularly in relation to collective security actions taken by international organizations. An ideal supplemental text for graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in comparative politics, international relations, and international organization, this volume will also be of significant benefit to policymakers interested in reviewing past sanctions cases as a guidepost for determining the feasibility of similar operations in the future. The book is distinguished by its broad historical approach and by its close comparison of the two countries--not only in terms of their sanctions policies but also in terms of their domestic political structures and individual overall formulations of neutrality policy. Ross demonstrates that despite the many background similarities between Sweden and Switzerland, the two states have differed substantially in their responses to sanctions operations. He analyzes the reasons for these differences, challenging traditionally held views that characterize Sweden's policies as changeable and Switzerland's as consistent. Finally, Ross identifies seven explanatory factors, derived from the four case studies, which can be used to determine how other source states--both neutral and non-neutral--might respond to future cases of sanctions.

EXCELLENT! My husband loves this book.!.......2007-01-10
A very intense book on print making. A must have book for serious artists, who want to expand in their field. Lots and lots of contacts in back of book maiking it easy to find anyone you need for print making! A+
Complete Printmaker, really complete.......2006-07-10
I am taking a class at the local community college. The professor of my printmaking class recommended this book highly and said it was the best on the market, so I purchased it and am totally happy and satisfied. It explains the different processes very well and the illustrations accompanying the text help visualize the different methods of printmaking. I am totally satisfied and will use it as a reference book throughout my printmaking activities.

Complete Printmaker.......2006-06-26
Very lengthy but i did learn from it
Review for "The Complete Printmaker".......2005-10-03
Delivery time was as promised. The book came securely packaged and the book itself was in pristine condition. I save $25 under the cost as charged in my college bookstore.
Process, process, process!.......2004-10-31
This book is almost a catalog of every printmaking process around. It covers all the basics: intaglio, relief, screen prints, litho, and monoprint. It covers related technique, including embossed "dimensional" prints (aka "blind" prints), molded paper, and more. It devotes special attention to collographs, prints from textured or collage surface, and much too much more to describe.
Best, the tools, materials, and how-to of every process are described in a fair bit of detail. Because so many processes are listed, each one gets just a short section, nowhere near what a printmaker would need in practice. Still, the descriptions serve at least two purposes. First, they may entice an artist into learning more about a process.
Second, and more importantly for me, is that you don't have to be a printmaker to read this book and benefit from it. I'm a fan of fine prints, even though I don't make prints myself. I like to know what I'm looking at. I like to see a mark in a print and understand where it came from, how the artist's hand created it. By explaining each process, this book helps me understand the result of the process, and understand its effect on the finished product. Not everyone sees art that way, but it makes me feel somehow closer to the creator.
I recommend this to anyone who loves fine prints. Perhaps it's helpful to the printmaker looking for new techniques to try. It is certainly useful for the viewer, in understanding how the artist makes a vision come alive on paper.

Book Description
"This leftward assault on 'the tyranny of political rhetoric used to justify America's new war [on terrorism]' is unlikely to end up on Bush administration nightstands."
Washington Post
"Journalists are being attacked for telling the truth, for trying to tell it how it is. American journalists especially. I urge them to read a remarkable new book published by the New York University Press and edited by John Collins and Ross Glover. It's called
Collateral Language and is, in its own words, intended to expose "the tyranny of political rhetoric". Its chapter titles "Anthrax", "Cowardice", "Evil", "Freedom", Fundamentalism", "Justice", "Terrorism", "Vital Interests" andmy favourite"The War on..." (fill in the missing country) tell it all."
Robert Fisk, The Independent
"Words are weapons in our new war, and all citizens are combatants. As a dictionary of post-911 rhetoric, Collateral Language shows us why we need smart books, not smart bombs. Brilliantly conceived, this book defines the axis of intelligence."
Amitava Kumar author of Passport Photos and Bombay-London-New York
"The resulting book is to be warmly welcomed and slauted as a valuable contribution to a vital political debate on criminality in language in which the criminals are all too often granted impunity."
Tribune
"Easily readable by the lay public ... provides insightful arguments and claims."
Rhetoric & Public Affairs
Terrorism, jihad, fundamentalism, blowback. These and other highly charged terms have saturated news broadcasts and everyday conversation since September 11th. But to keen ears their meanings change depending upon who's doing the talking. So what do these words really mean? And what are people trying to say when they use them?
Each of the thirteen essays in
Collateral Language offers an informed perspective on a particular word or phrase that serves as a building block in the edifice of post-World Trade Center rhetoric. In some cases this involves a systematic examination of the term in question (e.g. "anthrax" or "unity")
its historical roots, the development of its meaning and usage in the U.S. over time, and its employment in the current context. In other cases authors provide a set of more philosophical or autobiographical reflections on a particular idea (e.g. "vital interests" or "evil"), suggesting a need to consider the ethical and moral implications of using the concept uncritically. In every instance, however, the overriding goal is to give the reader a set of practical tools to analyze the political language that surrounds all of us at this critical point in our nation's history.
Witty, informative and highly readable,
Collateral Language is a lexicon of political terminology and an indispensable tool for understanding the current conflict.

Good for thought.......2003-09-29
I actually had one of the editors of this (Glover) as a teacher for a sociology course I took, and he brought this book to our attention for the latter third of the semester. While I don't think of him as the greatest of teachers I had, I can hardly fault his and Collins' ability to pick out good articles, and even write some themselves. The selection of articles helped bring some ideas forward in my mind and cleared my head on some matters. Others in the class would mutter afterwards about him being "too liberal," but it was refreshing and the ideas in here felt like fresh air after the stench of far-Right ideology (read: warmongering and abusiveness) I had the (dis)pleasure of dealing with frequently.
A great primer to the language of war.......2003-06-14
"war on terror," "pre-emptive war," "Anthrax," "Blowback," are some of the frequently used words by the trigger happy mullahs in washington. This book aims to illustarte the meaning behind these words. We saw how masterfully the words "Weopons of Mass destruction" were used to justify the occupation of Iraq by the Anglo-American forces. Now it is plain that all these false claims were used to woo the US public. Words such as these are being used by the bush admisnitration and the pentagon as simply and most centainly effectively as "Weopons of mass deception". This book tries to create an informed public by dissecting the rhetoric of the war mongers to create an informed public receptive to reason rather than fear.
Constructing a new world order.......2003-03-05
We live in an age where words like "invasion" and "pre-emptive war" are being bandied about in a frighteningly common-sensical manner. At a time when the US government seems to be set on embarking on a war that has faced consistent opposition, it has becomingly increasingly urgent for all of us to start questioning the nature of this common-sense: why has it become acceptable for policy-makers and media persons to talk about "attacks" and "regime-change" openly as a strategy to create a new world order; how "new" is this form of creating a world order; and what is the nature of the order that is being constructed? John Collins and Ross Glover's edited volume goes a long way in helping address these extremely important questions.
To say that the volume is timely is to state the obvious. What makes it invaluable is that the collection of essays attempts to historicize and bring to light the manner in which political contexts cannot be separated from what pass for rhetorical common-sense. Terms like "terrorism," "vital interests," and "fundamentalism" do not emerge in a vacuum. Understanding their meaning involves a closer look at the political context and the struggles within which they emerge. Collins and Glover have done a remarkable job of putting together a collection that does precisely that. Bypassing academic jargon, the authors have succeeded in making complex arguments accessible to a wide array of people. Collins' essay on "Terrorism" for instance, carefully takes the reader through the historical evolution of the term and the various meanings that have been associated with it during the three decades that it has been critical to US foreign policy. The essays on the concepts of Laura J. Riediehs) and "Civilization versus Barbarianism" (Marina A. Llorente) carefully delineate the manner in which concepts that are supposed to be universal and abstract, with meanings that supposedly make sense to one and all, are constructed in the context of political struggles. I could carefully go through each essay in the collection, but that might involved getting repetitive about what makes this collection so important. To put it in a nutshell, each essay in the volume is an excellent example of what political committed scholarship ought to look like. We live in a world where it is has become urgent for us to understand the dynamic and politically charged nature of the terms that are being used to construct a new world order. Collateral Language is a critical tool that needs to be used in this endeavor. The editing of the volume and its general tenor also make it a great text-book for any undergraduate course or high-school course- be it in Political Science, History or Cultural Studies. This book is a great and necessary read for anyone interested in contemporary politics.
Don't forget the lessons of wwII.......2002-12-24
WW II led to a couple of interesting works on propaganda: not
how to make your own, but how to recognise it, and how to avoid being taken in by it. In wartime we are perhaps as much in danger of propaganda and manipulation of information from our own governments, as from any other government. George Orwell wrote on how language is manipulated, in 1984 and Animal Farm. Less well known is Thouless "Clear thinking in wartime", with sections on such old favourites as propaganda speeches, and atrocity stories. Thouless' aim was to de-bunk the persuasive-sounding words, and get the reader asking how much hard fact lay behind them. Often, not much.
This new book, edited by Collins and Glover, should make interesting reading. As the generation who remember WWII are dying out, we are losing our knowledge on how to defend ourselves against propaganda. This leaves each citizen at the mercy of an enemy, and also at the mercy of their own govenment. All the war-mongers need to do is roll out a few old tricks, and people will fall for them, just like they did 60 years ago. We badly need books like this one, to help us think clearly in the coming months.
Some will doubtless say books like these are "un-patriotic", or "damage the war effort" or "put our troops in danger" . All that will show is that the propagandists have already started - such words make reading books like these more essential, not less.
