Is there such thing as a Western Taoist? Benjamin Hoff says there is, and this Taoist's favorite food is honey. Through brilliant and witty dialogue with the beloved Pooh-bear and his companions, the author of this smash bestseller explains with ease and aplomb that rather than being a distant and mysterious concept, Taoism is as near and practical to us as our morning breakfast bowl. Romp through the enchanting world of Winnie-the-Pooh while soaking up invaluable lessons on simplicity and natural living.

Book Description

One of the world's great Taoist masters isn't Chinese, or a venerable philosopher, but is in fact none other than A. A. Milne's effortlessly calm, still, reflective bear Winnie-the-Pooh. While Eeyore frets and Piglet hesitates and Rabbit calculates and Owl pontificates, Pooh just is. And that's the clue to the secret wisdom of the Taoists.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A particular way of living.......2007-10-19

This book is based around the idea that A. A. Milne's stories of Winnie-The-Pooh can be used to illustrate the basic notions of Taoism. Hoff is not by any means arguing that Milne was a Taoist. He is merely saying that Milne's inner attitude to life, as revealed by the stories, intuitively follow along the same path as Taoism. Owl is wise, Rabbit is cleaver and Eeore is smugly superior but the real hero of the books is Pooh, the apparently stupid yet strangely successful and able bear.

The book covers the Taoist principles of:

Tao, or the indescribable Way of the universe,
P'u, or natural simplicity, the Uncarved Block,
Inner Nature, being those things that make us exactly who we are,
Wu Wei, or proceeding without doing, causing, or making,
Tzu Jan, or 'self so', meaning that things happen by themselves, spontaneously,
Tz'u, or caring and compassion, and,
T'ai Hsu, or the Great Nothing.

Along the way we learn the pitfalls of being too busy and the benefits of doing nothing (for example meditation and contemplation). Having read this I now try to arrange my day so that I can spend half an hour a day in my garden with my cat just doing nothing but observing nature and thinking the thoughts that come to mind. I recommend it to everyone.

1 out of 5 stars Non Fiction.......2007-09-03

A complete waste of time. I suppose it is a whimsical idea to use Pooh to explain the version of philosophy that you favor. Others might term this exploitative. In fact, there is probably a comic in there somewhere, The Revenge of Pooh, where pragmatic realistic toys with weapons come and kick the stuffing out of wacko writers.

5 out of 5 stars What a great book.......2007-08-27

If you only read two books this year, this and "The Te of Piglet" should be those.

4 out of 5 stars wonderful, insightful book..........2007-08-08

I found this to be a simply delightful read. It was easy to comprehend and get through. Whoever thought that Pooh might one day come back and enlighten me as much as he entertained me as a kid growing up.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting concepts.......2007-08-04

I learned of this book through my truck insurance auto person in Minnesota. He told me of this book and I bought it and thought it had some great insites on life. They were always there but Pooh brings them out in a way that makes me think farther into it. Really good. PSM

When Christopher Robin asks Pooh what he likes doing best in the world, Pooh says, after much thought, "What I like best in the whole world is Me and Piglet going to see You, and You saying 'What about a little something?' and Me saying, 'Well, I shouldn't mind a little something, should you, Piglet,' and it being a hummy sort of day outside, and birds singing."

Happy readers for over 70 years couldn't agree more. Pooh's status as a "Bear of Very Little Brain" belies his profoundly eternal wisdom in the ways of the world. To many, Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and the others are as familiar and important as their own family members. A.A. Milne's classics, Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, are brought together in this beautiful edition, complete and unabridged, with recolored illustrations by Milne's creative counterpart, Ernest H. Shepard. Join Pooh and the gang as they meet a Heffalump, help get Pooh unstuck from Rabbit's doorway, (re)build a house for Eeyore, and try to unbounce Tigger. A childhood is simply not complete without full participation in all of Pooh's adventures. (All ages) --Emilie Coulter

5 out of 5 stars Horrible! Where is the History!?.......2006-12-17

Okay, first I'm a huge fan of Winnies Hollywood career and I also thought his apperance in the movie Top Gun as Tom Cruise's stunt double was amazing! Also playing Elizabeth Turner in the popular TV series, Pirates of the Mediterranean, was an astonishing role. But was that ever mentioned in the book? No! And that is what makes me lie awake in bed at night, hoping to one day claim vengeance on the editor and publisher. If you like this book, I will hunt you down and make you throw the book into a fire, do the tango, sing zip-a-dee-doo-da-zippada-da, then force you to alphabetize my sock drawer! So beware, and always know, I, Fartsy Magee, am always watching you. Right now your scrating your butt like a madman. I'm watching. Watching. Watching. Still watching. Okay, anyway I'm watching you every day. And I'm watching you like a blind man watching his glasses. BEWARE!!!!!!!!! BEWARE!!!!!!!!
But otherwise a great book and the author deserves a lot of credit.

Who doesn't love Winnie The Pooh? Don't answer that. This is an excellent and charming book to use for bedtime stories for children. I grew up with it and I still love it! It endears the simplicity of life and love...and honey.

I gave this to my girlfriend a hundred miles away. Whenever I see her, maybe four times out of the year, we sit down and read from Winnie-the-Pooh. So I feel a very strong connection to this bear of very little brain. The stories mean a lot to me. This would make a wonderful present for anyone, any age, no matter what. You're never too young for Pooh. If somebody says they are, they're lying. And they're stupid. Poopieheads.

Bought this for a new granddaughter and it is definitely a wonderful gift item. We will spend vast amounts of time reading these stories to her.

Stop everything! If at least one copy of each of these classics is not in a prominent place on your bookshelf, your home and your progeny's childhood is incomplete. Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends--blustery old Owl, bouncy Tigger, clever Christopher Robin, glum Eeyore, and the rest--have been a staple of children's literature for over 70 years in A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner. And Milne's immortal collections of children's verse, When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six, have soothed many a savage beast at bedtime with such incomparable delights as "If I Were King" and "Us Two." All four of these classics, complete with Ernest H. Shepard's original illustrations, are gathered here in a handsome boxed set. These hardcover editions will most certainly be a cherished legacy to be handed down for generations to come. After all, as Rabbit says solemnly one day, "Without Pooh, the adventure would be impossible." (Ages 3 to 103) --Emilie Coulter

5 out of 5 stars Indispensable childhood reading.......2007-01-11

These books were purchased for grandchildren. I grew up having these read to me, read them all over & over to my own five, and now to the grandchildren.

A. A. Milne uses wonderful language, humor, suspense, making these books and their wisdom last into adulthood - we all have favorite quotes often used to fit specific situations. To this family, they represent the very best childhood literature.

4 out of 5 stars Great gift!.......2007-01-03

I bought this for my niece, who will be three in January. Still a little old for her, but my sister and brother-in-law are very excited about reading aloud to her!

3 out of 5 stars Fantastic books, but..........2007-01-03

The Winnie the Pooh stories are some of the best writing you will ever read. AA Milne has quite possibly the best writing style ever. Unfortunately, the last two books aren't Winnie the Pooh books. They are books of poems (and I really dislike poetry). Some will love that, but I was hoping for more Pooh.

5 out of 5 stars This is the original on which all the Disney things are based.......2006-11-05

The Winnie the Pooh stories and poems are timeless. Little kids hear the basic story line, but as they grow, they begin to catch the underlying messages and cleverness. Grown-ups can appreciate the wit of Milne's writing. Besides the stories, don't miss the poems about King John's Christmas rubber ball, rice pudding, walking on the squares, etc etc - they are cute poems, but also the kind children can hear and remember as adults.

"Have you been a good girl, Jane?"

If you missed them with your children, begin them as a tradition with your grandchildren! The original is so much more than Disney (as it usually is when books are made into movies).

5 out of 5 stars Timeless Classics.......2006-09-27

Winnie the Pooh and friends will bring lots of laughter and love to any child and will bring back lots of memories of your own childhood. These books are of the original text that Miline wrote for his own son, Christopher Robin.

These four books feature the original illustrations by E. H. Shephard and are quite different from the Disney versions. The books themselves are beautifully made and are the best works of A.A.Milne. Perfect for every generation!

Seventy-five years ago, that most beloved of "silly old bears," Winnie-the-Pooh, came down the stairs, "bump, bump, bump," on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. And now, after generations of children have grown up on stories about Pooh's adventures with his forest friends, the four all-time children's classics from A.A. Milne and Ernest H. Shepard have been collected in one hefty, handsome volume for another multitude of generations to enjoy. Gathered together are the poems and tales that celebrate heffalumps, Eeyore's birthday, the unbouncing of Tigger, Disobedience, Buckingham Palace, and sneezles. The stories about Pooh getting stuck in Rabbit's doorway, Piglet doing a "Very Grand Thing," and Eeyore losing a tail (and Pooh finding one) are timeless favorites for children--and grownups--of all ages. Four original classics are here, in all their glory: Winnie-the-Pooh, The House at Pooh Corner, When We Were Very Young, and Now We Are Six. This beautiful edition features complete, unabridged text and all of Shepard's original illustrations, each hand painted in watercolors--this is a true collector's gem. (All ages) --Emilie Coulter

5 out of 5 stars Always and Forever Winnie the Pooh.......2007-09-06

This is a wonderful colletion of all the tales of Winnie the Pooh....I have had a copy for more years than I care to disclose, but recently bought a copy for my secretary's new daughter....It is a classic and something all children should grow up with, even today!
May Winnie the Pooh remain in your heart forever!

5 out of 5 stars Totally terrific.......2007-07-15

It doesn't matter which Winnie story or poem one loved most when growing up. They're all here to share with new generations of children and grandchildren, together with the the original art work (albeit colorized).

Personally, I'm rather fond of the poems--especially "Rice Pudding" and "The Mirror," from When We Were Very Young. But of course all the favorite Pooh Bear stories are here, too, one of my favorite being "In Which Pooh Goes Visiting and gets into a Very Tight Place."

This is 557 pages of pure delight, and at used prices, it's hard to imagine finding a better value for a gift, or simply for reliving a bit of childhood fun with your family.

Words cannot express the joys to be gained from reading Milne, over, and over, and over....

5 out of 5 stars What? No Complete Tales and Poems of Eeyore??.......2007-01-31

I have reviewed all of the books in this collection individually, and let me say that trying to read only one of them without reading the other three is like digging up only one leg of a completely intact Tyrannosaur skeleton - neglecting buried treasure when you know for sure it's there. Who would do such a thing? Who COULD do such a thing? And imagine how much worse it would be if the skeleton were that of a Heffalump instead of a Tyrannosaur! Even the frightened little Piglet would come hunting you down.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic!.......2007-01-05

You can't go wrong with classic "Pooh". This book is wonderful in every way. The original illustrations (so different and, in my opinion, much more charming than their Disney counterparts) are integrated to the text, making the book come completely alive. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this for anyone I know, whether they have children or not. The stories are so cleverly written even adults will come away with something after reading them!

5 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Classic.......2006-11-10

I bought this book for my grandchildren to introduce them to the real "Winnie-the-Pooh", not the Disney version. This is a gorgeous book and is one to pass down to the next generation. It's a classic in every sense of the word. This is "Winnie-the-Pooh" as I remember with the original illustrations and stories. Every child's library should have this book.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Glad I bought it.......2007-09-10

The book is beautiful and showcases the original Pooh stories instead of the Disney version.

3 out of 5 stars Somewhat Disappointing.......2007-07-04

First of all, as lovely as the die-cut dust jacket looks, it's prone to tearing. And if you have young children this is likely to be an issue, which sort of spoils the whole collector's edition / heirloom edition thing. Second, although I would ordinarily like cream colored pages and colored illustrations, I don't like how they did it for this edition. Starting in the early '90s Dutton published full color editions of all 4 of Milne's books (Winnie-the-Pooh, The House At Pooh Corner, When We Were Very Young, and Now We Are Six) on white paper, and the illustrations blended in perfectly with the pages. Unfortunately, for this 80th anniversary edition the publisher seems to have simply reused the color pictures from the 1991 edition, complete with the white backgrounds for each illustration. The effect of this against the cream colored pages of this new book looks sloppy to me, as if someone had cut out the pictures from the 1991 edition and pasted them onto the pages of this new edition. The older color editions of Milne's books are still available through Amazon (search for "Winnie-the-Pooh full-color gift edition"), and in my opinion they're nicer than this new one.

5 out of 5 stars A lovely book.......2007-06-01

Having grown up reading "Winnie the Pooh," I purchased this book as a baby present for a friend. Upon receipt, I was pleasantly suprised - it was not the typical book - it is exceptionally beautifully printed. The pages are thick, in a light, creamy yellow color (not the usual white). The cover is a layered cut-out, and the color illustrations are beautiful. If you are seeking a book to give as a present, this is a stand-out that you will be proud to give.

5 out of 5 stars Winnie the Pooh 80th Anniversary Edition.......2007-05-13

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful childhood memories.......2007-03-20

When I was a young child and we had no tv (47+ yrs ago), my father would read us this book in the evening. He would make all the different voices and I could see it all in my head. I was in awe of him, reading this wonderful book and telling such wonderful stories. When I have seen the movie, I very fondly recall my father reading to us, inspriring us to read and imagine.

In all likelihood, your mother or father read you these poems and remember their parents reading the same. This collection of poetry by the creator of Winnie the Pooh was first published in 1924. With its companion volume Now We Are Six, the little books became two of the biggest bestsellers in publishing history. Children all over the world have heard about changing the guard at Buckingham Palace; James James Morrison Morrison Weather by George Dupree; the three little foxes who kept their handkerchiefs in cardboard boxes; and, of course, Christopher Robin, named for A.A. Milne's son. Adults and older children will enjoy Milne's poems too, as some of his humor is subtly directed at a more sophisticated audience. But younger children are the ones who love the naughty Mary Jane (lovely rice pudding again?) and the bears on the corners of London's streets. Read these poems aloud and pass along (or start) a family tradition. (Ages 5 to 9)

Book Description

Blackstone Audiobooks presents, from the unabridged collection "A.A. Milne's Pooh Classics," the forty-four poems and verses from When We Were Very Young and the thirty-five poems and verses from Now We Are Six, both performed by Peter Dennis.

5 out of 5 stars Milne's Beauty in Simplicity.......2007-01-28

I had to read this for a little while before I got to a poem I really liked. The first 10 or so poems just seemed incomplete to me. "Independence" caught my eye first. In very few words it pretty much tells us adults that our kids are going to do what they want, despite all the things we say. It's followed by the wonderful poem "Nursery Chairs" where a child pretends the chairs in his house are different things. Then after "Nursery Chairs" is another strong poem, "Market Square" where we learn that there are things all around us in nature that we don't need to get from the market.

"Disobedience" is another interesting poem. It's kind of a role-reversal story about a kid whose mother disobeys his orders to stay away from the end of town, and she gets lost as the result of her disobedience.

"Spring Morning" emphasizes the beauty of nature to us, saying, "It's awful fun to be born at all." Next is "The Island" which has a wonderful closing message that screams, "God made it all - FOR US!" to me.

And there are so many other joyous poems in this quick read too. There's "Jonathan Jo," "Rice Pudding," "The Wrong House," "The Dormouse and the Doctor" (which has some terrific rhythm), a very touching "Little Bo-Peep and Little Boy Blue," "The Invaders," "If I Were King," etc., etc.

But perhaps my favorite poem in the collection is "Halfway Down" which is about nothing more than sitting on stairs. Man, if someone can take such a simple act and make it so astoundingly wondrous, then that person truly must be one of the greatest writers ever.

5 out of 5 stars Poems for Now and Everafter.......2006-08-04

One day, I found one of these poems running around in my head 40 years after I first began reading them to my boys when they were very young. As my older son took possession of that copy some time back, I had to order a new one for my 67-year old self just to get the lines absolutely right. It was worth it. My only regret is that I have no grandchildren to drum them into. Charming, literate and comforting.

5 out of 5 stars When We Were Very Young by A. A. Milne.......2005-09-01

This is one very good book and can be enjoyed by people from 2 to 92. I've read it to senior citizens as well as my grandchildren. The subjects are universal. The rhyme and rhythm are delightful.

5 out of 5 stars When I Was Very Young.......2005-06-08

A.A. Milne's early classic, WHEN WE WERE VERY YOUNG, reads like a literary fountain of youth. It's a short little book aimed most likely at those who are not old enough to read and probably only barely old enough to be read to. Yet fans of A.A. Milne (there are far more adult fans than young fans) as well as lovers of English verse will fall in love with this little book. It contains 44 poems, all of which are fun and simple. The illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard provide wonderful compliments to each poem. This is the perfect introduction to A.A. Milne.

Book Description

Blackstone Audiobooks presents, from the unabridged collection "A.A. Milne's Pooh Classics," the ten stories of "Winnie-the-Pooh," performed by Peter Dennis. This is the only reading of these immortal stories authorized by A.A. Mile's son, Christopher Robin, who wrote, "Peter Dennis has made himself Pooh's Ambassador Extraordinary and no bear has ever had a more devoted friend. So if you want to meet the real Pooh, the bear I knew, the bear my father wrote about, listen to Peter."

5 out of 5 stars a classic for the best reasons.......2007-04-12

A masterful actor brings these seemingly innocent stories to life. The stories have many profound lessons for preschool age and young children and they neither hammer the lessons over the head nor speed by them too quickly to be grasped.

Most importantly, the stories are so lovingly crafted by Milne and performed by Dennis that adults AND children can enjoy listening to them again (and again, and again) with pleasure...something that cannot be said of much contemporary literature. My daughter listened to the book on tape REPEATEDLY this year and here I am buying the CD set because our new car has no cassette player and we are both unhappy without having her favorite school-ride stories to turn to.

5 out of 5 stars Winnie the Pooh - A.A. Milne - CD .......2007-04-10

Collection of Winnie-the-Pooh stories. Excellent story for children. Reader,Peter Dennis is excellent. He provides great sound affects. My 5 year old loves to listen to this as she is going to sleep. Had this on cassette tape years ago and was pleased to find it available on CD.

5 out of 5 stars Best Narration for the Beloved Bear.......2007-01-04

We had these books on tape several years ago for our older kids, so when we added a baby this year we knew that the cd's had to be found for him. We looked all over for them, and were so happy to finally find them on Amazon! Peter Dennis is the perfect narrator for the Pooh stories (the real Christopher Robin certainly agreed!), so even though we found the books on cd by other narrators before finding these, we chose to wait until the Peter Dennis set could be found. He does such a wonderful job on the voices of the characters, and he switches back and forth so naturally and smoothly that he makes listening to the books a true pleasure. Not only are the cds soothing and fun to listen to for the baby and for the kids, but they're also fun and nostalgic to listen to for the parents. They aren't annoying to listen to like a lot of other kid-oriented cds can be.

If you're looking to give your child some listening enjoyment that won't hype him or her up with too much craziness, and you love the classic beloved Pooh Bear, then these are for you!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Classic!.......2007-09-19

We have the complete works of Milne. My 5 year old son and I absolutely LOVE Pooh collections. We enjoy our special time together reading Now We Are Six...and this book is not just to be enjoyed by a child...but for all of us who are still kids at heart and enjoy real literature of substance. Silly, heartwarming, fun and clever are just a few words I would use to describe this book! Disney's version of Pooh (books, movies, cartoons) is far inferior!

And as I sign off, I will leave you with one of my favorite poems from this book. Found on page 1 in my handed lovingly down 1950 edition. And after reading the poem, I ask you...who doesn't still feel like this from time to time? 6 or 106...this is a timeless classic!

Solitude

I have a house where I go
When there's too many people,
I have a house where I go
Where no one can be;
I have a house where I go
Where nobody ever says "no";
Where no one says anything-so
There is no one but me.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic.......2007-02-21

Even better than it was 40 years ago. . . .I think I'll be six forever and ever.

5 out of 5 stars Every kid should own this book!.......2007-02-10

I absolutely loved this book my first time around, when I was five and six, sixty years ago. Of course it hasn't changed a bit, and I loved it all over again when I recently gave it to my grandsons. What a pleasure to reread and remember those charming verses, so many of which I'd memorized back then; the memories came flooding back.
Treat yourself -- even if you don't have grandkids.

5 out of 5 stars Very Much Like "When We Were Very Young".......2007-01-31

"Now We Are Six" was published sometime between the publishing of the two two Winnie-the-Pooh books, and it looks very much like Milne's "When We Were Very Young" (which was published before either of the Pooh books hit the market). I would actually call it a sequel to "When We Were Very Young." It's just a collection of poetry with a special emphasis on childhood. Maybe I shouldn't say it's "just" a collection. Pooh would say it's actually a very grand collection. At least I think he would say so, because even a bear of very little brain knows what the word "grand" means.

Milne immediately gets your attention with the "ahem" in his introduction, and fails to lose any of it from there. He tells a wide variety of funny/touching stories about topics ranging from a cowardly knight with unusually quiet armour to a problematic break for a little toy train.

"King Hilary and the Beggarman" is a particularly good standout poem and is an effective parody of government offices in general that still can be applied perfectly to this very day.

Hmm...there's a poem within a poem in "The Emperor's Rhyme" that I couldn't understand, even after looking the verses over several times.

"Explained" is by far my favorite poem in this set. It shows the true comfort a child can get from something as simple as a doll's squeak. How strange it is that no doubt in the child's mind can possibly stand up to something we adults consider to be so completely negligible.

Perhaps the poems "Pinkle Purr" and "Twice Times" best summarize the thoughts of the author in this book. They both emphasize the changes in the relationship between a parent and a growing child over time. You can really see how this theme has become a major concern of Milne during the passing of the three years between the publication of his poetry books. The man just loved his son a whole heck of a lot. I don't think he wanted to ever let this love go. It's truly the quality of a great dad. I often feel my dad is like Milne in a way, because of this.

Book Description

Originally published as a single volume, The Heart of Listening has been re-issued as two separate volumes because of public demand for a more concise, portable edition. Milne, a third generation Scottish osteopath, begins by explaining the visionary approach to healing, and how it may be applied to the realm of craniosacral work. In the second volume, Milne details the anatomy, physiology, energetics, and techniques that are the essential core of visionary craniosacral work. His particular genius lies in his ability to weave a delicate tapestry of narrative, poetry, and scientific fact into a fascinating and insightful exposition of the visionary healing arts.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommend.......2007-01-09

Hugh Milne's 2 vol. set combines poetry, art, and technique in the field of Craniosacral Therapy. Great insight to the therapist's process, as well as, the client. It goes beyond the technical to the artful and creative process of being with your client, as you help their body heal itself. Not only beautiful, and inspiring, but deals, in detail, with the technical aspects of craniosacral work. It is a definite "must" in the library of the body worker who wants to go beyond the ordinary.

4 out of 5 stars The Heart of Listening: A Visionary Approach to Craniosacral Work Vol 1 Reader Review .......2006-08-21

Well written with a good index, bibliography and footnotes for each chapter. The author's analogies are also quite helpful as it is really a book that tries to teach a feeling, hands on, touch subject. The diagrams are accurate and easy to follow. At times there are references to techniques that are in the next volume. Volume one deals with the background, history and cerebral/philosophical aspects of craniosacral work. These aspects are a key to how the author practices craniosacral work. This is not just a technical manual of how to shift bones. It deals with energetic aspects of healing as well. As I am a veterinarian, the medical aspects were easy to follow. I cannot speak to how someone with less anatomical training would see the text.

5 out of 5 stars Truth Rings Clear and Beautiful.......2003-07-03

If every Massage Therapy School would teach The Heart of Listening's lessons on "transference" and "counter-transference," I believe Hugh Milne would have provided a direly needed understanding and set of constructive guidelines for therapists who are human and therefore tend to get into trouble when in close contact with other humans.

There are many other extraordinarily helpful and interesting stories, explanations and illustrations to be found in The Heart of Listening. If you believe that truth is beauty and beauty truth, I think you would deeply appreciate Hugh Milne's book. It is a fine creative effort, especially in presentation of both the technical and spiritual aspects of Visionary Craniosacral Work.

Another thing I like about the writing: Milne doesn't take credit for someone else's work. Quite the contrary. I noticed meticulous care in giving credit where credit is due. A certain humility permeates this book, letting the reader know the author is not just knowledgeable in a gentle way, but quite honest. Jockeying for "who's the best" status obviously isn't a Milne characteristic.

5 out of 5 stars hmmmm.................2001-11-14

It is interesting to see such divergent opinions and ratings regarding this book. Does it mean that a person looking for texts on craniosacral therapy should accept the average rating for this book to mean that it is middle of the road? Hmmm....I don't think so. For the person seeking out help with their healing process, craniosacral work is only as valuable as the consciousness of the practitioner is clear and open. Milne writes that "presence is more important than technique." He also teaches that it is important to learn the techniques well and to have a fully-equipped, expert tool bag (realizing that this may take many, many years of practice to acquire). Then the practitioner will have just the right technique that may be intuitively chosen for each individual in their own timing and need. It is also important to realize that no one is the sole authority on craniosacral work. If you have undertaken a journey to incorporate craniosacral work in your practice, it would be wise for you to read many books or articles on the work, including the words of Rollin Becker, Don Cohen, Hugh Milne, Michael Shea, Franklyn Sills, William Sutherland, John Upledger and others. The best way to learn the work is to wipe the slate clean before each bodywork session, before each study session, before each class, and let the cranial wave and dreambody of the person offered before you to teach you what craniosacral work is and what is needed. This includes the practitioner accessing his/her own cranial wave as a wisdom teacher. The truth is--craniosacral work cannot be completely written down in any book or completely taught in any class. It can only be wholly known in the place where there are no words. This book just may be the help and the inspiration for you to be able to arrive in the place of no words and no doing, the time/space where the "breath of life" (Sutherland) is united with the blue print for health. The world needs this work. Let us all learn to listen with our hearts, and keep our minds open in the process.

1 out of 5 stars Not the Definitive Text I wanted..........2001-10-03

After reading Elsa Cort's reviews of this text, I was hoping this would be the "definitive text" for CranioSacral Therapy for me that it was for her. Unfortunately, this text added little to my previous studies. Having studied cranial work from the Cranial Academy and CranioSacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute, this text did little to expand my knowledge. For my money, there are better books in the market.

5 out of 5 stars The World of Pooh Review.......2007-06-04

I think that "The World of Pooh" was a wonderful book. I especially liked it because I love Winne the Pooh. He is so funny, and with his friends by his side they can do anything. One of my favorite parts is the part where Pooh gets stuck in Rabbit's Rabbit Hole. And when everyone throws a party for Pooh and Eeyore thinks the party is for him. The World of Pooh is a great book and it is funny as well. I could not put the book down. It is just simply amazing. Piglet and Winnie the Pooh are best of friends.

For the Gopher fans, Gopher is not in this, he came later in the tv shows.

If you have a kid, a grandkid, a neighbor kid, or are considering getting any of those, you should buy this book.

Get a copy to keep in the car in case you are away from the main copy at home. It is a truly great book, and you will never regret purchasing it for a single second.

5 out of 5 stars An Escape From the Real World -- (written by my sister)........2004-08-25

This book is good for kids and adults. It is a great way to escape from the daily depressions in our world news. Unlike other books, it provides a fun, innocent adventure that still has the appeal to people of all ages. After a hard day, this book allows you to forget all bad - there is no evil, there is no wrong. highly recommended!

The World of Pooh is better read aloud. Milne's characters are charming and lovable. Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends are alive in this book every time I read it, and Shepard's illustrations are so pleasing. I've read these stories so many times and still each time I can hardly wait to find out what adventures Pooh and his friends will have.
