Book Description
Every eye-catching photo in this superb guide to a popular craft will inspire, instruct, and attract bead- and glass-makers. It's beautiful, easy to follow, and one-of-a-kind.
Glass beadmaking has become a crafting phenomenon, and this colorful reference features a rich repertoire of creative ideas. Splashed across the splendid pages in eye-catching photos are all the most popular types of beads, accompanied by the newest, most innovative techniques. The instructions begin with the basics: how to light the torch, wind and cool the bead, and shape the glass into barrels, cones, and discs. As beadmakers' skills develop, they can expand their horizons by experimenting with enamel; using mica dust to form an iridescent sheen; and applying silver, gold, and copper leaf to layers of glass. The most advanced projects are truly remarkable, from floral and sculptural beads to beads that encase images of stars, rainbows, and faces. A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.

Not too bad.......2007-10-17
The book is not very essential for me.I prefer "Beads of Glass".Anyway it is beneficial that the techniques are told and the photographs of them can be seen in this book.In the book you can upgrade step by step. The book begins with the setting up the studio and ends with the advance techniques. I can say that this book is not efficient for intermediate beaders.
Terrrific.......2007-10-13
Great book! My husband read it first, and just kept giving me bits of new info he was learning while he was reading it. The next day he was absorbed in the studio trying out the new techniques he learned from this book. I am in the process of reading it, and am very pleased. It breaks down the techniques from easy to advanced - and has great instructions. Buy it!

remarkable women who are tackling an issue that is particularly prevalent in their country.......2007-06-29
ANGELS IN AFRICA: Profiles of Seven Extraordinary Women (2006) by Beth O'Donnell & Kimberley Sevcik, documents seven African women working to overcome devastating problems in their African communities. Organized by country, each chapter of Angels in Africa introduces us to a remarkable woman who is tackling an issue that is particularly prevalent in that country. Ann Wanjiru represents 2,000 grassroots women of GROOTS Kenya; In Tanzania, Edina Yahana helped plant more than one million trees in an effort to save the rainforests from decimation; Celina Cossa, Founder and President of the General Union of Agricultural Cooperatives (UGC) of Mozambique, is one of the most respected women in Africa; In Rwanda, Pascasie Mukamunigo, a Tutsi woman brings together the Hutus and Tutsis through a community weaving project; We learn about the work of Prudence Mwandla of South Africa who has dedicated her life to sheltering AIDS orphans who had been abused, abandoned, sick, and hungry; Aminata Dieye of Senegal created a program that trains young girls in non-traditional jobs. In Senegal, that's not an easy thing to do, and Mme Dembélé Jacqueline Goïta, Directrice Exécutive, CARITAS of Mali, Fighting Poverty, Hunger, and Homelessness.

A simple easy way to the Solaris Abyss.......2002-01-07
A real easy book to read, and very nice. My only take on the book is that it's old, So, no 2.6 or up versions. It's all about SunOS. It's one of the very very few books about crash dump analysis. As a matter of fact, I am not aware of any other book about that. If you are, please let me know. It's one of the easiest books that you can lay your hands on, to get started in adb.
Great book!.......2001-11-28
I believe this book is not only an exceptional tutorial on crash dump debugging techniques but also a good review of the Solaris kernel architecture and data structures. The authors have done a great job explaining such highly technical and complicated topics like processor architecuture, stacks, file system data structures, adb, assembly code, etc. Not exactly bed-time reading!
Although some of the examples are a little bit out of date (Sparc V9 and Solaris 8 are the industry norm more or less) and a second edition is becoming more and more a necessity, I will still give this book 5+ stars.
The excellent presentation and exemplary technical make Crash! (relatively) very easy to read but several years of strong Solaris experience, a good understanding of computer architecure, OS fundamentals, data structures, and some knowledge of C are still required for full comprehension of the content.
Before diving into this book I would strongly encourage the potential reader to at least review "UNIX Internals: The New Frontiers" by Uresh Vahalia, "Design of the Unix Operating System" by Marice J. Bach, Maurice Bach or "Solaris Internals: Core Kernel Architecture" by Jim Mauro, Richard McDougall.
A Book This Good Should Be Kept Up-To-Date.......2001-07-03
What the other reviewers have said in consensus, I'll just stipulate: this book is a gentle but comprehensive introduction to core file analysis; it's also an excellent reference on kernel architecture. For its clarity of technical writing, it deserve some kind of award, considering how deathly-dull the subject matter can be. I couldn't stay awake through one pass of the assembly code illustrations, but I don't think the writers could have helped that. This book is a nonetheless a triumph, albeit a dated one.
Now, c'mon, Prentice-Hall, help the audience out! This book was written in 1995. It uses Solaris 2.3 and sun4d architecture as its latest and greatest. Solaris (2.)8 has been out for a while and 9 is on the way; sparcv9/64-bit architecture is here; mdb, the modular debugger, is going to replace adb; the book *must* be updated. It would be a crime to let it die now -- there's still no competitive title on the market.
The book is non-technical enough that I couldn't make all the changes needed to get the older examples to work. If I ever do, though, maybe I'll be good enough to write a competitive title myself...
That said, even if the next edition were to out in three months, I'd still buy this one now to get started; it's that good.
Mundane yet fun.......2000-12-31
Okay, I'll admit that the topic of debugging kernel panics is one that will give most sysadmins fits and put others to sleep. However, the ability to dig up just exactly what caused your kernel to panic is a skill that can be mastered with this book. The authors do an excellent job of explaining SPARC architecture in a non-engineer oriented way. I have found this book to be very helpful in my work. Please note that this book is specific to Sun Solaris only (I would like see a 2nd edition that covers everything up to Solaris 8).
Note, the iscda script provided in the cdrom does not work with Solaris 2.6 and up. You can get the updated version at: http://www.piaffe.org/panic/macros/iscda-2X
Good book - bad CD examples.......2000-02-06
Very good book - every one who want to know more about kernel engineering should buy it - but do not expect that will you find there only examples - loots of coments relating system devices and services . But if you are not 3+ years expiriences Solaris admin , don't buy it - there is loots of assembler languige suplements etc ..

Book Description
In the Wild West town of Springton, certain Texas belles are finding rattlesnakes easier to lasso than the hearts of the men they desire. Rachel Branigan is Springton's outcast...Caleb Stone the new minister. They both have enemies from the past who threaten to destroy them - and squelch their budding love. When handsome lawman Lee Cutler falls ill, the plain-faced and demure Patience Primrose volunteers to nurse him back to health. Will her self esteem suffer another crushing blow when the new schoolteacher catches Lee's eye? After months of feuding, a confessed secret brings sawmill owner Bobby Joe Aaron and schoolmarm Susannah Butler together in a marriage of convenience. But their little family and growing love teeter on destruction when other secrets are revealed. On his first day as sheriff, Billy Ray Aaron catches a thief who turns out to be a woman in disguise. The biggest challenge of Billy Ray's entire career may be rehabilitating Victoria "Tory" Nelson from her life of crime - before she can steal his heart. Follow the romantic exploits and spiritual journeys of Springton's finest - as well as a couple of her less-than-upstanding citizens - and watch God's love unfold in each life.
Customer Reviews:
Best Historical Romance I've Ever Read.......2007-01-09
When I first read this book, I had never heard of this author, so I didn't know what to expect. I love to read historical Christian romances and have probably read hundreds of them, but I can honestly say that this one is my all-time favorite. I have reread it about 10 times and it still has me laughing out loud each time I read it. The characters are unique and hilarious as they interact with each other, revealing their own human faults and imperfections, but at the same time using them to change their lives for the better.
Historical Christian Romance.......2006-05-31
If you have never read a book in this series, than you are in for a real treat. There are four historical christian romances in this one book. Each one is just shy of 100 pages. In addition, all four stories are connected in location and character. So the charters you meet in the first story come back in all of the others.
Now for a recap of each story:
1. A girl is judged by the entire town and charged guilty of commiting a sin of which she is innocent. A new astor comes to town and falls in love with her. But she is afraid her past will prevent them having a future. Do they have to move to a new town? Will she ever be cleared of her crime?
2. The sheriff is looking for a bride, little does he know one lady has already named him asa her future husband, but as luck would have it, she is the lsat woman on the earth he would ever want to marry. But all of sudden he can't seem to get her out of his mind. Does the sheriff marry this girl? Does she give up on him and marry someone else?
3. Susannah has a secret, well afew, to be perfectly honest. Her dad sent her to a twon to complete a muission, she never intended to complete. Now her time is almost up and the man that she loves just asked her to marry him in a marriage of convience. Does Susannah mary him eventhough he doesn't return her love? Does her dad ruin her happiness by taking her away from her love?
4. An outlaw has been caught by the town sheriff. She should go to jail but the judge sentences her a three month period of reform where she will learn to be a Christian, and a lady. However, during this time she falls in love, guess with who. . . the sherrif who arrested her. Will they fight thwie love forever? Or will this end happily ever after?
TEXAS BELLES IS A DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE! FOUR BOOKS IN ONE!.......2003-05-01
All four novels in this anthology are connected, and each one has its own merit! Rachel Branigan cannot convince the town that she was attacked and she and her child are labeled because of it. This doesn't deter Rev. Caleb Stone who believes her and loves her and her baby girl. Lawman Lee Cutler keeps wondering why Patience Primrose keeps batting her eyelashes at him - until he discovers she's been reading Emma Hadley's book on how to catch a man! Circumstances, however, bring out the true Patience and everyone is surprised at this happy ending! Susannah Butler is the schoolteacher and the way is not easy for her and Bobby Joe Aaron as family secrets come to the surface and their love has to grow almost in spite of circumstances. Billy Ray Aaron, Bobby Joe's brother, catches a pickpocket who turns out to be a 19-year-old blonde attraction to him! He almost forfeits his job as Sheriff to save her, and all characters come into play in this final story of the four. Altogether, these complete novels are well written and the men and women are very real and three-dimensional - you see them as they really are and they react in wonderfully human ways. I recommend this book highly and I know you won't be sorry to enjoy this inspirational romance anthology. It's even difficult for me to enjoy regular library books now that I've discovered Barbour anthologies like this! I hope you enjoy TEXAS BELLES as much as I have!

Book Description
A Communion of Subjects is the first comparative and interdisciplinary study of the conceptualization of animals in world religions. Scholars from a wide range of disciplines, including Thomas Berry (cultural history), Wendy Doniger (study of myth), Elizabeth Lawrence (veterinary medicine, ritual studies), Marc Bekoff (cognitive ethology), Marc Hauser (behavioral science), Steven Wise (animals and law), Peter Singer (animals and ethics), and Jane Goodall (primatology) consider how major religious traditions have incorporated animals into their belief systems, myths, rituals, and art. Their findings offer profound insights into humans' relationships with animals and a deeper understanding of the social and ecological web in which we all live.
Contributors examine Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Daoism, Confucianism, African religions, traditions from ancient Egypt and early China, and Native American, indigenous Tibetan, and Australian Aboriginal traditions, among others. They explore issues such as animal consciousness, suffering, sacrifice, and stewardship in innovative methodological ways. They also address contemporary challenges relating to law, biotechnology, social justice, and the environment. By grappling with the nature and ideological features of various religious views, the contributors cast religious teachings and practices in a new light. They reveal how we either intentionally or inadvertently marginalize "others," whether they are human or otherwise, reflecting on the ways in which we assign value to living beings.
Though it is an ancient concern, the topic of "Religion and Animals" has yet to be systematically studied by modern scholars. This groundbreaking collection takes the first steps toward a meaningful analysis.
Customer Reviews:
Great, but..........2007-04-11
Great collection, much needed, full of extremely useful articles. Unfortunately, there are an amazing number of editing errors and typos. Even the centerpiece of the collection, by Thomas Berry, has several errors. Considering how beautifully the book was produced, this surprises me. The book doesn't quite cover everything you always wanted to know, but were afraid to ask, about animals and religion, but it comes close.

Customer Reviews:
The Best (and most crowded) Parts of the Sierra.......2006-09-11
This guidebook really is worthy of the award it won. It describes over 60 hikes in the Sierras the bulk of which are long day hikes or backpack trips. Each route has a topographical map included, detailed descriptions and alternative routes or side trips included. What makes this guide fairly unique are the many (very beautiful) color plates and some wonderful sidebars on local history, including a discussion of arborglyphs left by Basque sheepherders and the fight by the climbing community to save "Camp 4" in Yosemite Valley.
Nonetheless, I cannot give the book 5 stars. There are several minor errors in the book. Arrowheads have not been found atop Mt. Whitney: that is an apocryphal story that dates back to Clarence King. Similarly, the claim that Mt. Rose is the only 10,000 ft. peak with a trail to the summit in the Tahoe area is untrue. The Tahoe Rim Trail goes right over the summit of Relay Peak and this even appears on their own map of the Mt. Rose hike. The main drawback of this book, however, is that it really only covers the popular backcountry hikes in the range. The book lists only 8 hikes in Sequoia and Kings Canyon and these are the premier hiking parks in California. So, while this book is good if you really have no idea of what is available in the Sierras, hikers with some foreknowledge, or those seeking solitude, will need to supplement this book with other sources.

This book is disappointing. While it may help a college student or other really new person grasp some of the concepts of organizing it is not useful to practioners.
The Midwest Academy used to have a very good training manual covering many issues. As the book got slicker looking the information got worse.
Get Shel Trapp's old Basics of Organizing instead - much more useful, and free on the internet.
This is it!.......2002-04-13
This manual takes you through waht you need to know about organizing. From strategy development to research to implementation, this book shows you how to do it. Well written and simple to understand. Outstanding reference for novice to experienced organizer.
The best purchase you can make and you won't need to buy others.

Hawai'i's Ambassador of Aloha, Duke Kahanamoku, is remembered for his Olympic medals and as the Father of International Modern Surfing. But those who place leis on his statue in Waikiki equally honor him for his strength of character and the Hawaiian ideals he represented. "Duke" : A great book.......2005-04-18
This book is a gem, a pithy, accessible and colourful distillation of a complex life and memory. It's beautifully written, designed and produced, with good use of rare photographs and images. The inclusion of endnotes, photo credits, further reading pointers and an index enhances the book, which has the distinction of appealing to both the lay reader as an introduction to 'the Duke' and to the historian who seeks a condensed reference to Kahanamoku's life and context. The book is a reminder of the need for a full biography that considers his continued importance and meaning along with his vita.

Hawaii's Sovereign Of The Seas Remembered .......2005-04-15
Until Joseph Brennan's Duke: The Life Story of Duke Kahanamoku (1994) is reprinted or another comparable book is made available, the sporting world's great interest in Duke Kahanamoku, Olympic star and the greatest surfing avatar of the 20th century, may be satisfied by Sandra Kimberley Hall's compact Duke: A Great Hawaiian (2004), a brief but beautifully illustrated overview of the champion's life.
Whether as a record-breaking swimmer, a surfer and surfboard innovator, an entrepreneur, an actor in early Holloywood, the Sheriff of Honolulu or as a janitor or garage mechanic during leaner periods of his existence, Duke Kahanamoku was, first and foremost, a gentleman and an ambassador of traditional Hawaiian good manners and 'aloha,' a word which, in addition to other meanings, encompasses a wide range of positive human feelings, from "love, affection, and compassion" to "grace and charity."
As such, Kahanamoku represented the kind of role model--both as a man and as an individual--that is completely lacking on the world stage today. With his humble manner, extraordinary talents, and magnificent physique, Kahanamoku was revered by men, desired by women, and almost universally loved and admired by all.
The photographs of Kahanamoku from different periods of his life are the great strength of Duke: A Great Hawaiian. Hall certainly seems to understand Kahanamoku's intrinsic value as a human being and as an individual, and conveys that understanding with warmth, enthusiasm, and ease.
Enduring Aloha.......2004-10-17
The Y2K millennial issue of Surfer magazine featured on its cover the formal portrait of a young Duke Kahanamoku with the caption "Surfer of the Century." Perhaps you've been to Kuhio beach at Waikiki and visited the Duke statue; maybe even left a flower lei draped on his arms. Most people also take a few minutes to consider the inscription that's written there, imagining what Aloha could mean if we each lived our life that way.
I ordered a copy of this book before it was published. When it arrived in the mail I realized that I held a small volume, one of life's little primers, that might affect me in a big way -- and that's what happened. If you love the ocean like Duke did, then Sandra Kimberley Hall has written the thank you letter we all wish we could have given him.
Duke Kahanamoku lived from 1890 to 1968. It's been more than thirty years since he died, and people still speak of him as if he's here among us. This book will help you understand why swimmers/surfers/water polo teams/outrigger canoe clubs/open water paddlers... all EXPECT to meet the Duke. He's right there with us every time we greet another ocean enthusiast with the generous spirit of Aloha that was his gift to all.
I'm the guy who led a letter writing campaign resulting in the approval of a U.S. postage stamp honoring the Duke. Others had begun the process more than twenty years ago. Working as a volunteer for the Surfrider Foundation, I circulated a newsletter beginning in 1998. For four years thousands of people all across America responded by sending letters/petitions/postcards of support to Washington -- and we succeeded. The stamp was issued on the anniversary of Duke's birthday, August 24, 2002. More than 62 million stamps were printed, and the edition is now sold out.
The handsome, active and youthful image chosen to portray Duke on the stamp has invited many others to examine his life -- Olympic champion, Halls of Fame, years of public service to the Territory/State of Hawaii. He was a lifelong inspiration to those who met him personally, and also those who could only read about him (a skinny kid like me in the library at Beach Haven, NJ hoping maybe I could learn to ride the surf on my blue & yellow inflatable canvas raft).
We all know that very few of us will ever appear on a commemorative stamp. Those who took the time to write to the Postal Service felt that Duke Kahanamoku was one of those people who represents us at our very best. This book celebrates all the reasons why.
Respectfully submitted,

A fitting tribute to the father of modern surfing.......2004-09-17
This fantastic little book oozes aloha from every page. If the Duke is looking down on us, he'd be stoked, proud and humble to have a book like this written about him. The story of Duke Kahanamoku is a moving one and the author has captured the spirit of the man in these pages.
The quality of the production is beautiful with photos on each of the left hand pages and the text laid out in simple form on the right. The aloha print cover is a joy. If you're into surfing, or Hawaiian, history this is a must have book and a future collectable for sure. Aloha from England!

Superb!.......2007-06-04
I'm so glad I stuck with Lonely Planet (LP) for my 4 day trip to Colorado where we covered everything from Rockies to Colo. Springs, Denver, Boulder and also did rafting and hiking.
This book is great and lists everything that you need. Accomodations, maps, rafting companies, tourist traps, restaurants, etc. Very nice, exactly what you would expect from LP. Although I haven't tried other states yet, I'm looking forward to making a trip to Yellowstone soon ...
Thanks lonely planet!!
Cons: In case you are new to the lonely planet style of writing, let me warn you that if you are looking for a book which is heavily edited and proofread, then you will be disappointed. This lonely planet book is written in a style which is reminiscent of the old LP books - it seems more like a brain dump of everything the writers encountered. They then tried to put most of the things under appropriate headings and did a fair job. This is what I expect from a 'pack and go' book like LP so it works for me. YMMV.
A Norsemans Journey to Rocky Mountains.......2000-02-08
I had the opportunity last year to visit the Rockie mountains. Mainly Colorado and a fast trek throught or should I say to Montana. Having bought Lonely Planets books on both Australia and South Africa earlier (trips that didn't come to fruition, yet) and also having enjoyed some of the tv programs from the same people I thought this would be the best bet for my trip. And it sure was. Now most of my stay in this erea was in Denver so maybe I could have just bought a book on Denver, but as much as I enjoy travel books they tend to be a bit expencive and this offered more value to me. An the books offers more than adequate information on Denver and it's immideate surroundings. Later on the book gave me what information I needed during my brief stay in Montana. The book also informed well about the strain of arriving in the Mile High City (Denver) when you are a lowland dweller, so it didn't come as a shock. Good thing that ! I'm going back to this region of the US, you can count on that and this book will come along on the next trip as well.
