Innacurracies, in my opinion........2007-10-06
I haven't taken the exam yet for Praxis, however, I have been overseas for a third of my life, so I know the ease at which cultural influences have on one's answers. I found the mathematics section to be excellent. However, in going over the reading and writing sections, I found that the answers given were very subjective. For example, in the "Writing, Multiple choice section", there were many answers I had which were not wrong. Maybe not right, according to their standards, but not wrong. Uses of cliches were given as wrong answers. BUT THESE ARE NOT WRONG. To use a cliche is neither wrong grammatically nor wrong semantically, yet it was listed as wrong because it is a cliche. Second, in one question on p. 56, the choice which explains what a carnivorous plant is, is marked as wrong. BUT IT IS NOT WRONG TO EXPLAIN the meaning of something, it is simply the author's choice to explain the meaning, it is neither wrong grammatically or semantically to do so.
I am not sure if these are the kinds of questions which are on the real PRAXIS exams, but if they are, then I would be surprised. I will see.
Very complete.......2007-08-26
I was looking for a study aid to prepare for my PRAXIS and found this one to have the best reviews. I read reviews for other books which usually recommended this book.
I was most concerned with the math portion of the PRAXIS. I read this book from the first page on. I kept a note book handy for exercises and practice questions. There are clear explanations of common mistakes that you may make. There are three full length practice tests available. I took one and felt a boost in confidence to see my score was much higher than anticipated.
This book definitely helped me prepare for the PRAXIS and I would highly recommend it. My only complaint is that it did not review graphing which is why I rated it a 4 out of 5 stars since I did have a couple graphing related questions on my exam. Aside from that missing review I did 10 points better in each section of my actual PRAXIS than on the practice tests.
This helped a lot........2007-08-23
I just passed my Praxis exam and this book helped me tremendously. The only thing I would note is that it is designed for the pencil and paper test and I felt that some of the strategies could have been revised to focus on the computer based test; however, it was comprehensive and worth the price.
not enough practice and explanation.......2007-08-11
this book had very little information on how to solve the problems and not enough practice. I should've bought a thicker and more complete book I guess.
Must buy when preparing to take Praxis I.......2007-07-12
I bought this book and studied several hours after work for about a month. I only took the two practice tests (never did the essay portions), and scored 3 points over my state's requirements. I just got my official scores today, so I had to post this. If you're preparing to take the Praxis I, this book will definitely prepare you for the exam. Just be sure to study and take the practice tests.
Good luck!!

Great Test Prep.......2007-09-20
This book was an excellent resource for me while studying for the Praxis II 0041. The book presented an organized view of the types of questions and sections within each test series. Although there are some incorrect answers, the practice test undoubtedly will help you gauge your level of preparation. I especially appreciated the book and resource list. I decided to read all the suggested novels (of while I read about 2/3) as additional preparation. I received my scores and I did very well, especially for someone who wasn't originally an English major. Again, I feel that this book does a wonderful job in helping one prepare for the Praxis II: English Subject Area tests.
Paid for Incorrect Answers!!!!!.......2007-08-31
I purchased the book Cliff Test Prep Praxis II: English Subject Area Assessment expecting that it would prepare me for the Praxis. Well while I was studying I discovered at least two questions in the practice test for th e 0041 section that gave incorrect answers! At first I was like what are the odds that a praxis prep book is incorrect, but then after confering with several English majors, I discovered that I was right and the book was in fact displaying incorrect answers. I have not recieved my Praxis scores yet, but I am seriously concerned. I passed the Praxis for general Content Knowlegde (0014) in June and I passed with 177 on my first try- but for that I used the ETS Prep book. Seriously, if you are reading this please buy the ETS book, not this one!!!
Good study guide but has at least one wrong answer in Practice Test.......2007-08-24
Do not use this booklet as your only study guide. Some of the questions are irrelevant and/ or ambiguous. In the 0041 practice test, the answer to number 45 is completely wrong. It also looks like Dr. Kern didn't edit the explanation of the answer for this question as well.
Helped me receive a perfect score.......2007-08-01
Despite the 0041 test being very obscure, the preparation questions and tests in this book helped me more than adequately prepare for the Praxis II exam. In fact, I was able to get obtain the highest score possible. I doubt that would have been possible without this resource. Thank you!
Well-organized with good detail.......2007-07-14
The book starts with some good test taking strategies and the content review is concise and well organized. Even though there was only one test per assessment area this book covered--I took the book's suggestion and took all of the tests since there is so much overlap in subject area.
I haven't taken the test yet, but I'm feeling much better about it after using this book. I definitely recommend it.

Much Better Than The "Average".......2007-09-10
Having taken a competitive promotional exam three years ago, I was desperate to find some statistics book I could read and remember without touching the two textbook albatrosses that added unnecessary weight to my bookshelf. This was it.
After reading this my confidence increased the "confidence level" in which I calculated that there was a good probability that I would pass the test among a large, non-random population. (People never get "random" right. I wonder why).
It is also a great little review since probability is one of the fastest things to escape my long-term memory, and I can grab this little yellow and black-striped gem for easy recollection and consumption. It states things easily and simply--just the way I like it. It is very easy to follow. (I gave away the expensive versions.)
The odds are this will be your best bet. This book is much better than the average.
Cliffs Quick Review.......2007-01-31
A good general review. I haven't taken stats in 20 years and needed a quick brush-up for a graduate level research class. This book worked well and will be a good resource while I'm enrolled in my course.
Excellent.......2002-01-17
I am taking Stat 244 after taking the first class 5 years ago. I needed a review to catch up, but I am finding that this is much more comprehensible than the textbook and the instructor. Nice and straight forward... Makes you wonder why you need to spend $80+ for a used textbook in college when you can learn it more efficiently from this little guy... THANK YOU!!!!!!
Get Cliff's Quick Review of Statistics.......2002-01-08
Cliff's Quick Review of Statistics is a good supplement
to any Stat course, and should be kept as a reference.
Good intro text. It ought to be required.
For non-quantitative concepts, presented for the layman,
get the classic "How to Lie With Statistics" by Huff.
Good condensed review.......2001-11-25
This book is a condensed review of statistics, without laborious examples. It can be used as a refresher or supplement to a more verbose introductory primer. It is perfect for a high school or a one semester introductory stats course.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Preparation Tool!.......2007-08-05
This book was a very thorough study guide. The practice tests were very valuable, as was the extensive information regarding theorists and other information that was on the test. I just took my Praxis today, and I left feeling very confident, thanks to this book!
Very Helpful.......2007-06-14
This book was much easier to use than the one from ETS. Information for each category on the test were easily accessible and clearly stated. The format for the case studies and multiple choice questions were exactly like the actual test. If you are looking for a book that is going to truly help you prepare for the PLT, this is it!
Worked for me!.......2007-04-07
I am pursuing an alternate licensure track in Ohio and needed to take the PLT 7-12 as part of the process. Although I finished a MA Ed degree in 2004, I didn't have the background in this material like current undergrads might. So I needed a sound text for not only review but also with important topics fleshed out for study. I read this book cover to cover twice and made review lists with major points to study starting one month prior to the test. I did all the multiple choice questions and reviewed the free response for all the age groups.
I just got my score and passed with a 179. Ohio's passing score is 165. This book works!
Helpful!.......2007-02-08
I used this book to study for the 0041 and 0042 exams. I found the guide more accurate in predicting what types of questions would be on the 0042 exam than on the 0041. I found the 0041 exam questions to be more difficult than the sample questions in the book, but the book served as a good starting point for studying. If you're taking the 0041 exam, study the time periods religiously! This is probably the best guide out there that is not more expensive than the exam itself.
I ended up passing both exams with excellent scores!
Great test review book for content summary.......2007-01-10
I bought this book to prepare for the Praxis PLT 7-12 and found it extremely helpful. The content review section is extremely thorough and covers all of the material you need to know for the exam in a concise and organized manner. It made it easy and accessible to find info about different educational theorist rather than searching through a psych of teaching textbook. The review questions are also helpful and good for praxis. Definately, worth the buy if you need a review book!

Book Description
Here are the books that help teach Shakespeare plays without the teacher constantly needing to explain and define Elizabethan terms, slang, and other ways of expression that are different from our own. Each play is presented with Shakespeare's original lines on each left-hand page, and a modern, easy-to-understand "translation" on the facing right-hand page. All dramas are complete, with every original Shakespearian line, and a full-length modern rendition of the text.

Helper for Understanding.......2007-09-06
I bought this book for my high school Shakespeare class and found it to be the most helpful thing. With this book, you get a feel for what Shakespeare was saying in a language that you can understand. With my other Shakespeare books, I had to wait for my teacher to explain to us just what had happened in the lines we had just read. When I used this book, I understood the material before it was explained to me. I recommend this to anyone taking an Intro to Shakespeare class.

This was a great resource while teaching "Romeo and Juliet" last year to my English 1 students. I was able to explain the more difficult passages to them as we read along in the book. I wish that I had the money to purchase this book for all of my students. I plan to use it again this school year.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Good Book.......2007-06-12
This is a good book. It has an excellent glossary, and the practice tests are very good.
Better Than I Expected.......2006-05-16
When I bought this book, I wondered how a book could help you review for the AP Lit exam, since there are no facts to really cover like in other exams. However, this book is extremely useful for those seeking a high score. It brings you step by step through the process of writing prompts, pointing out important details and giving a plethora of examples. The tips on the multiple choice questions allow you to review all the major terms you need and offers many opportunities to test yourself, with the why behind the answer included. Plus, you will feel better about the test because it is written by a former test writer. This makes it feel like you can trust what he is saying about the test, and I do not remember him being wrong once when it came to the actual exam. In conclusion, buy this book or don't buy one at all.
Reasonable, though slightly outdated.......2006-05-11
PROS:
This book offers substantial advice; the most useful piece of which (in my opinion) was "In the essays, be sure to ANSWER THE ESSAY QUESTION, the whole question and nothing but the question." It also walks the reader through several multiple choice passages.
CONS: The literary term list was somewhat basic, and in general, the essay-writing advice seemed confining and old fashioned.
For a more jazzy, student-friendly AP English Lit. Prep book, see the Princeton Review.
AP Cliff Notes.......2006-02-25
The Cliff Notes are an excellent way to review a book(s) you have read before taking a test or doing class work. Cudo's to these writers and publishers.
Very Helpful.......2006-02-25
This book is really helpful while taking the AP Literature class. It gives some good strategies on how to actually take the test and the practice questions are very similar to what is seen on the test. I definately recommend this book.

Super handy........2007-08-05
I'm a pastoral studies student and this book has been a jewel for all my related classes. If I have to read something in the Bible I read the section in the cliff notes book 1st then i grab the bible and read it.
It helps a lot to put what I'm reading in the Bible into perspective. The author has some excellent commentaries.
a little odd, but quite useful.......2005-12-05
I was a good bit confused when I saw that Cliffs Notes had published a Notes on, of all things, the Bible. I mean, coming from someone who reads their Bible often, I never thought someone would need a copy of the Notes to understand the Bible.
That being said, I found the Notes interesting, to say the least, but not really saying anything I didn't already know. For those of y'all out there who are having trouble understanding some particular Bible passages, I would recommend this to you... but make sure you've actually read the passage first. You might have learned something- you just didn't know it.
Finally a reprieve for the unremitting boredom.......2003-11-28
Wow, I really have to say--this is one Cliffs Notes that I can appreciate. It actually has a purpose. This is the perfect book for those of us who are forced by parents and sunday school teachers to read the Bible on penalty of everlasting suffering and torment. I wish this was available when I was growing up...it is the perfect tool to decieve those that would try to force us to read the incomphrensible gibberish that is the Bible. And frankly rounding out at just under 100 pages, I can say that this is about as much of the Bible that I can bear. Easy to read and understand and without the mind-altering, brainwashing side affects. A+, highly recommended!!!

A good base to start your study........2007-10-12
I believe that for this review it is important to tell you what I thought of this book AND what is the best way to prepare for the test.
I was a non-traditional test taker. I hadn't taken a math class in 6 years, and furthermore, the only college math I had ever taken was pre-calc, discrete, and stats. So clearly, I needed some serious preparation.
I passed using this book and one other critical resource, praxismathexam.com. This book was useful in that it steered me in the right direction toward what theoretical concepts I needed to master. The practice tests were a good warm up for the MUCH better practice tests on praxismathexam.com.
With this book alone, I would have failed miserably. The practice problems are easier than what you'll see on the real thing. I would have been misled into thinking I was ready when I wasn't. This book did give me useful information, but praxismathexam.com is your best friend.
Passing the exam book.......2007-09-17
I purchased the official book from Praxis but I didn't feel like it really prepared me for the exam. I searched for another source and found the Cliff Notes book. Not only did this book cost less than half the Praxis book, it had 3 complete exams and prepared me much better for the content knowledge exam. I have now passed the exam and got that behind me. Thanks Cliff Notes!
A little disappointed.......2007-08-24
The actual test was NOTHING like this book or the practice exams within. While it is not that the book is not good-it provides a thorough review of math concepts but it did not help me prepare for the test. The questions were phrased completely different and at a much higher level.
A good starting point.......2007-08-11
This book is a good kick-off for studying for this Praxis exam. However, it doesn't give the full breadth of the types of questions on the real test. The practice exams simply regurgitate the points made in the first portion of the book. There is a lot of math on the Praxis Math CK test not found in this book. However, it will launch a study regimen which should include other resources. Finally I did discover several mistakes and typographical errors in the book which led to some temporary frustration.
Okay review, too easy practice tests.......2007-08-04
As the previous poster stated (and I wonder if we were at the same exam today and you were the one I spoke to afterwards!), the difficulty level of the practice exams in this book are not even close to the difficulty level of the actual exam.
This book is a good refresher, and may help you figure out what areas you need to brush up on, but by no means is it complete as to the type of questions you may be asked. There are no exercise questions to help you practice, either, just the practice exam questions which, again, are overly easy. Lots of typos in the book, too.
The [[ASIN:0738603309 Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge Test (Test Code 0061): The Best Teachers' Test Preparation book isn't very good if you are contemplating that one over this one. It has somewhat good content coverage (though not as good as this one) and it does have practice exercises, but it is filled with typos and its exams are also too easy.
I'm not sure what the best way is to study for this exam. You need a good background knowledge, which this book can help with, but the actual exam questions require you to take this knowledge and extend it - reminded me a lot of the type of knowledge you need on an IQ test. Use every review book you can, and study up as much as you can in areas you are shaky in. I found Probability For Dummies (For Dummies (Math & Science)) and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Geometry, 2nd Edition (Complete Idiot's Guide to) excellent if you need help in those areas. Also, the review tests at [...] are outstanding.
Good luck!

How does one make a play by Shakespeare accessible to those disinclined to read one?The answer is Sixty-MinuteShakespeare Series.......2007-07-14
Reviewed By: Beverly Krueger, Eclectic Homeschool Online
How does one make a play by Shakespeare accessible to those disinclined to read or see one? Or how do you make it possible for those who just don't have the time to do the play full justice, but nevertheless want to have more than just a taste of the bard, to find the time to read it? The answer is the Sixty-Minute Shakespeare series. I've got in my hands their version of Hamlet. There are two important distinctions to this edition. First, it is abridged. The core of the play is left untouched, so the play and its themes are still understandable. Famous soliloquies are also left untouched. The dialogue that fleshes out the minor characters is often abbreviated. Second, the play is rendered in the original language, but uses standard spelling. This is not a modernized version of the play.
The Sixty Minute Shakespeare series was also written to give a shorter, easier to produce version of the play for theater groups that wanted to put on a production of a Shakespearean play. Any of this series would be a great production piece for a homeschool theater group. I recommend Hamlet in particular because there are so many resources available to help young actors learn more about their roles, especially the many fine productions of Hamlet on video or DVD. A short section on staging a production gives useful advice for staging and pacing of a production.
For those who want to use this edition for a study of Hamlet, I suggest getting a study guide to help with understanding the themes of the play. The notes at the bottom of each page help with understanding some of the unfamiliar words used, but those who are not familiar with Shakespeare will benefit from additional explanations of what is happening in the text.
helpful.......2007-01-15
I have my degree in English... I like reading and teaching with this version as "help" not as a substitution. It gives a clearer understanding to Shakespeare for people who have difficulty with it.
Great for studying Hamlet!.......2007-01-10
I had to use this for a course I was taking. This book was very clear and very helpful. It definetely made reading Hamlet a lot clearer and simpler.
Helpful edition; entertaining play........2006-09-14
"Hamlet" was not a Shakespearean play I had plan on reading outside of my Movement in Theatre class and this edition made it one hundred times easier. I had to read the play in a week, so reading the modern English side made that process effortless. I then read over the original Shakespeare version when I had to focus on the character Ophelia. Overall, I found that this play was easier to read in Shakespeare's writing, as opposed to some of his other plays. The play is interesting, but I felt the ending to be boring. I "sorta" recommend.
A good reading copy.......2006-08-25
Once you get used to the layout, this is a good copy to read along with as you listen to the play. Some valuable insights too and not just for students.
