Book Description
Succes in poker is part luck, part math, and part subtefuge. While the math of poker has been refined over the past twenty years, the ability to read other players and keep your own "tells" in check has until now been mostly learned by instinct and practice. However by using Navarro's techniques illustrated with Hellmuth's examples you will be able to decode and interpret other players nonverbal comunication while concealing your own. You will essentially become a human lie decector and a feared player.

Simplified presentation but full of good stuff.......2007-10-17
Not quite finished with the book (although it is an exceedingly quick read) but I am well enough along to recognize the value in Joe's lessons on limbic responses at the card table. Joe's observations are categorized and rated according to strength. I feel like I have much more artillery in the observational arsenal.
Worth the money..........2007-10-13
I liked this book a lot. It has a lot of useful information about not only reading tells from your opponents, but also making sure to be aware of not giving off tells yourself. I believe once you feel you have a solid all-around live game, this is a great adjunct to enabling you to read situations better when you are in a 50-50 decision. While the book didn't blow me away, I still think it's a worthwhile read.
Tremendous for Tells.......2007-10-08
This book is a must read for anyone who wants to be a serious poker player. When you read this book and use the techniques that Joe teaches it will open up a whole new world for you at the poker table. This is a no brainer to buy and read from cover to cover the minute it shows up on your door step. Navarro puts science and real life experience together for one heck of a poker tells book. I would NOT recommend this book to your poker buddies as they could pick you apart with the information they gather from this book.
Simply the best.......2007-10-07
Being able to read other player's body language is very important in poker. Until recently, Mike Caro's book was the only book available on the subject. Now there are numerous books on poker tells, and this book is by far and away the best of the bunch. The book is very detailed and describes a lot of different tells. The book also expalins which tells are more useful, and how different tells put together can give one a better read on one's foe. It has a lot of unique tells not featured in other books. It also tells the reader how to disguise one's own tells, which is also very important. The book could have used some charts to summarize the information better, and it could also have had some practice examples to help one put the tells to good use. Finally, the book did have some tells that are sort of obvious, but its better to be safe than sorry. Besides these defects, the book was very helpful and informative. It took Mike Caro's book to a whole new level. I recommend it to anyone serious about poker, especially tournament no-limit.
Not impressed.......2007-09-28
I am mainly a internet player, but have played at very prestigious card rooms to the likes of the Bike in LA, and commerce. Usually NL 300 to 500 and up. I read this book expecting maybe more than i should have. I can sum the entire book up by saying simply "pay attention". Nothing really ground breaking at all here. It was a quick read, so i rated it a bit higher than i thought the content was good. Mike Caro's book i find, although outdated, is more packed with information. How the hell am i supposed to make a desicion on a big hand based on something i cant see. Like the over emphasized feet section of the book. Im sure this stuff will help a bit, but it should be used as a basic beginner tool. I thought with this guys qualifications there would be more. I was wrong. Just dont expect to hit the tables and crack the code, cuz u will be the one getting cracked.

An overall good study guide for the FBI exam.......2007-10-18
While some of the other reviewers were not as positive about this book, I found it to be quite helpful, especially in preparation for the general types of questions and their format. I passed the exam with no problems, but have since decided not to continue the process. For anyone who is preparing for the FBI exam, I would highly recommend this book as a study guide - I would also, however, suggest that you are already in the physical shape necessary to continue along in the process, since there can be only a few weeks between the time you find out that you have passed the exam and the physical fitness test.
A big help!!!.......2007-10-18
I took the FBI written exam 3 years ago and failed. Second time around I studied using this guide and finally got the large envelope saying that I passed. Onto Phase II for me. It doesn't give you the actual questions and answers but it trains your brain how to think for the Bio and Situational portions of the exam. It also has alot of math preparation questions. I would recommend it to anyone.
FBI Test Prep.......2007-09-16
I have just recently taken the Phase I exam and passed. I used this book as a study guide. This book is the closest of others that I have seen. It gives a good math review and the questions are the same type that are on the test. The questions are not exact, but do give you a general idea of the questions that are actually on the test. I don't think I would have passed without this book.
Supplement Only.......2007-04-27
There are many practice exams in this book, scattered among other filler material, but only a few will really prepare you for the real thing. This would be a good supplement to better test preps such as the GRE/MCAT or other Civil Service Exam math prep books. Some of the materials are completely irrelevant to the FBI and appear to just be a compilation of other occupational exams that were photocopied and bound in some guys basement in the mid 80's. I was successful in the real exam but would only use portions of this book as a part of one's study routine.
Common Sense.......2007-03-20
When you read reviews for study guides like this one, bear in mind that if someone gives it a bad review it is more than likely because they failed the exam. This guide is a good one.
Bear in mind that not everyone will is ideally suited to be a Special Agent with the FBI. Not passing this exam can be a disappointment, but no one can legitimately blame this guide for not passing the test.

Book Description
It's been more than six months since her husband's brutal death, and Julia Ransom is just beginning to breathe again. She loved her husband, renowned psychic August Ransom, but the media frenzy that followed his murder sapped what little strength she had left. Now, after dinner with friends, strolling along San Francisco's Pier 39, she realizes that she's happy. Standing at the railing, she savors the sounds around her-tourists, seals on a barge-and for a moment enjoys the sheer normalcy of it all. And then it comes to an end.
Out of nowhere she's approached by a respectable-looking man who distracts her with conversation before violently attacking her and throwing her the railing. If it hadn't been for Special Agent Cheney Stone, out to stretch his legs between courses at a local restaurant, Julia would have vanished into the bay's murky depths. Not only does he save her from a watery grave, but he senses a connection between her assault and her husband's death, and sets out to serve as her protector while reopening August Ransom's murder investigation.
Meanwhile, in Maestro, Virginia, Sheriff Dixon Noble-last seen in Point Blank-still mourns his wife, Christie, who vanished hree years earlier. His life, too, is just getting back to normal when he learns of a San Francisco woman named Charlotte Pallack, whose shocking resemblance to Christie sends Dix across the country. Though he knows in his heart that she can't possibly be his wife, Dix is compelled to see her with his own eyes. Once in San Francisco, Dix and Cheney's paths inevitably cross. With the help of agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock, whose San Francisco connections prove essential in unlocking the mystery behind Charlotte Pallack's identity as well as the forces behind Julia Ransom's attempted murder, Sheriff Noble and Agent Stone push deep into a complex world of psychics and poseurs. As the stakes and the body count rise, Savich, Sherlock, Dix, and Cheney fight for answers-and their lives.

A shocking truth with many lives at stake........2007-10-06
Catherine Coulter's DOUBLE TAKE enjoys a dual narration by veteran Sandra Burr and Phil Gigante and packs in a thriller revolving around murder, romance, and more. A sheriff's investigation of an unusual woman will lead to a shocking truth with many lives at stake.
Good Read.......2007-10-06
Received this book as ordered. Very good read, I can't wait until her next one!
Another fast-paced thriller from Catherine Coulter.......2007-09-25
I wasn't disappointed in this latest installment of Catherine Coulter's FBI series. It was wonderful to once again "meet up with" Dillon and Sherlock (and their son). I quite enjoyed it, and hope Catherine Coulter will continue adding more books to this series.
Great FBI Thriller.......2007-09-22
I loved Double Take. It is the latest book in the FBI Thrillers from Cauther Coulter. All are great.
Plenty of Exciting Scenes and more!.......2007-09-21
Sometimes I enjoy fast paced thrillers, but when I want a well-thought out mystery novels then I read a book by Catherine Coulter. I have enjoyed her FBI series books with Sherlock and Dillon and in "Double Take" is was good to see Cheney and Dix make their return after appearing in Point Blank, which happens to be one of my favorites.
Overall, I didn't think this was one of Ms. Coulter's best books. I had a hard time keeping track of the characters and almost got to the point of keeping a score card as to "who" was "who". For me this "family tree" of characters caused a lot frustration on my part. However, let me say that mid-way through the book the story moved along at a brisk pace giving me plenty of exciting scenes. Soon, I found myself reading page and page until I finished it. Except for a few "kinks" in the story Catherine Coulter didn't disappoint me in this terrific story. And as always I look forward to reading her next novel.
Book Description
Spy tells, for the first time, the full, authoritative story of how FBI agent Robert Hanssen, code name grayday, spied for Russia for twenty-two years in what has been called the “worst intelligence disaster in U.S. history”–and how he was finally caught in an incredible gambit by U.S. intelligence.
David Wise, the nation’s leading espionage writer, has called on his unique knowledge and unrivaled intelligence sources to write the definitive, inside story of how Robert Hanssen betrayed his country, and why.
Spy at last reveals the mind and motives of a man who was a walking paradox: FBI counterspy, KGB mole, devout Catholic, obsessed pornographer who secretly televised himself and his wife having sex so that his best friend could watch, defender of family values, fantasy James Bond who took a stripper to Hong Kong and carried a machine gun in his car trunk.
Brimming with startling new details sure to make headlines,
Spy discloses:
-the previously untold story of how the FBI got the actual file on Robert Hanssen out of KGB headquarters in Moscow for $7 million in an unprecedented operation that ended in Hanssen’s arrest.
-how for three years, the FBI pursued a CIA officer, code name gray deceiver, in the mistaken belief that he was the mole they were seeking inside U.S. intelligence. The innocent officer was accused as a spy and suspended by the CIA for nearly two years.
-why Hanssen spied, based on exclusive interviews with Dr. David L. Charney, the psychiatrist who met with Hanssen in his jail cell more than thirty times. Hanssen, in an extraordinary arrangement, authorized Charney to talk to the author.
-the full story of Robert Hanssen’s bizarre sex life, including the hidden video camera he set up in his bedroom and how he plotted to drug his wife, Bonnie, so that his best friend could father her child.
- how Hanssen and the CIA’s Aldrich Ames betrayed three Russians secretly spying for the FBI–including tophat, a Soviet general–who were then executed by Moscow.
-that after Hanssen was already working for the KGB, he directed a study of moles in the FBI when–as he alone knew–he was the mole.
Robert Hanssen betrayed the FBI. He betrayed his country. He betrayed his wife. He betrayed his children. He betrayed his best friend, offering him up to the KGB. He betrayed his God. Most of all, he betrayed himself. Only David Wise could tell the astonishing, full story, and he does so, in masterly style, in
Spy.
Customer Reviews:
Far and away the best book on the subject.......2007-09-30
Without a doubt, this book is better than any others on the case of Robert Hanssen. Wise has absolutely the best sources (just compare the acknowledgements) and it is very fairly and professionally written along all lines. Far and away better than "The Bureau and the Mole."
Couldn't put it down ..........2007-09-21
Simply put, one of the best books I've read in recent years. After renting the movie "Breach" which is loosly based on Hansen, I wanted to know more about why and how he became a spy. This book answered all that and much more. Very well written ... no loose ends. Just a great book. Such a shame that a man as intelligent as Robert Hansen used his gifts for evil and not for good. There is some evidenct that suggests that the Russians didn't even know his identity! Hard to believe they didn't have someone watching him as he picked up the money at the drop sites but ... that could be one reason he got away with it for solong. But the book also tells of the many times he should have been caught but talked his way out of it. Read this book ... it's excellent.
A companion to Breach.......2007-06-21
After seeing Breach, I wanted to learn more about the Hanssen case, and this is the first book I found in the library. Robert Hanssen is a fascinating subject, and this book provided information that was missing or glossed over in the film. For example, money seems a major factor in his spying. I did not get that impression from the movie. Also, the movie portrays him as combative and confrontational, whereas the book depicts him as socially awkward, aloof, and a nerd.
While I respect the author's research, I am unimpressed by his writing. He does not tell the Hanssen story in an engaging way. Far too much time is spent describing the bit players. Do I really need to know that this FBI agent was "tall and affable" and this woman was "bright and articulate"? In my opinion, the book should have provided more speculation on Hanssen's motives. I also found the author's attempts at creativity and levity to be distracting and cliche. For example, note this sentence: "This time, he decided, he would play in the majors" (46). I also dislike the author's occasional moments of self-applause. For example, in a footnote he mentions that Hanssen thought the author is "the best espionage writer around" (271). Congratulations David, this pervert likes your work.
"Spy" gives a complete overview of the Hanssen case. I recommend it for its insight despite its literary flaws; however I suspect that more compelling books exist.
Oh What Tangled Webs He Weaved.......2007-06-20
Robert Hanssen was in a league of his own. There wasn't another spy to compare him to, and not only for the amount of damage he did to compromise American intelligence to Russia. This was a man of several contradictions. It must have been hard for him to keep his respective roles straight. He was an agent for the FBI, a devoted family man, devout Catholic, obsessed with porn, spying for Russia, and became infatuated with a stripper to the extent that he took her on a trip to Hong Kong and bought her a Mercedes. He was the computer guru who appeared contemptious of other co-workers. It appears to me that he often employed the defense mechanism called reaction formation which means he took an attitude with others the opposite of which produced anxiety in himself. He not only betrayed his country by using his job for personal gain, but horribly betrayed his wife by sharing sexual photos of her to his friend. Hanssen justifies his spying by saying his first job at the FBI was in Scarsdale, New York, and the cost of living there with his minimal salary forced him into needing extra money. Hanssen spent over 20 years compromising America's secrets through approximately 18 drops of documents for the Russians. His Russian contact made sure to massage Hanssen's ego with flattery in communication with him. What the Russians paid for this information was a pittance compared to its value. A tunnel built under the Soviet embassy in Washington that cost hundreds of millions of dollars was for naught as he passed this on to the Russians. Three Soviets working for the FBI were named by Hanssen and were called back to Russia and executed. Apparently it didn't bother his conscience because he would always confess his spying along with his other sins to a Catholic priest. It doesn't appear right to me that he should be able to confess such law infractions and not be reported, but that's another story. This is the third book I've read on Robert Hanssen's life of espionage, and I feel this one is the best.
Slow start, but interesting.......2007-06-11
This book is most appropriate for anyone who believes in US government conspiracies. The inability of the FBI to catch a spy who seemed to put out crazy person vibes for years is a bit scary. Robert Hanssen was one strange cat. Maybe he was smart, but he didn't come across as too smart in this book. It is no shocker that a guy who claimed to take religion and family values seriously ends up as a huge hypocrite. The book gets more interesting towards the end. Sad story.
Book Description
The story of the most dangerous triple–agent in US history, by intrepid investigative reporter Peter Lance.
Peter Lance, author of the highly acclaimed 1000 Years for Revenge and Cover Up, returns to uncover the story of Ali Mohamed–a trusted security advisor of Osama bin Laden who hoodwinked the United States for more than a decade. As Lance reveals for this first time, this one man served in a series of high–security position within the United States security establishment–as a Special Forces advisor, FBI informant, and CIA operative–while simultaneously helping orchestrate the al Qaeda campaign of terror that led to 9/11.
In October 2000, after tricking three U.S. intelligence agencies for almost two decades, Ali Mohamed appeared in handcuffs and a blue prison jumpsuit in a Federal District courtroom on Manhattan's Lower East Side, where he pleaded guilty five times. His crimes included brokering terror summits, financing an attack on two Black Hawk helicopters, training jihadis in improvised bomb building and the creation of secret cells. And yet for decades Mohamed had lived the life of a Silicon Valley computer executive. How did this evildoer move in and out of and around the U.S.? How did he become a naturalized citizen, marry an American woman and infiltrate three of America's top intelligence agencies–the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the FBI? With utter complacence, ruthlessness, and ease, and with no small amount of oversight from the outflanked U.S. intelligence community.
From the Able Danger scandal of the Clinton Administration to today's CIA Leakgate, Mohamed appears at nearly every crucial turn of America's terror probes. An important final piece to the 9/11 investigation, Triple Cross penetrates Mohamed's secret past and the dark reaches of Al Qaeda to reveal the danger that still threatens America–and the staggering errors of America's homeland security.

Triple Cross by Peter Lance.......2007-09-06
Triple Cross is scary when you realize the government
cover ups which could have stopped 9/11. The work done
by Peter Lance to uncover these facts is amazing.
Outstanding Work.......2007-07-05
Peter Lance has produced a magnificent book. His work needs to be followed up by multiple congessional committees and numerous on air investigative reports. Patrick Fitzgerald, Jack Cloonan, Dietrick Snell, and other highranking DOJ and FBI officials must testify under oath in primetime on national television. Peter Lance should be the lead investigator for the hearing. Americans have no idea the scope of the war against alqaeda. this is much older than 9/11. We have been at war with them since 1989.
I-49, Alec Station and Able Danger need to throughly examined for their inability to connect the dots before 9/11. I-49 was the FBI-DOJ BinLaden taskforce run by Patrick Fitzgerald. Alec Station was the CIA's BinLaden group. Able Danger was the Pentagons data-mining operation that linked Ali Mohammed (top alqeada spy linked with all major cells in the world and the US), Mohammed Atta (lead hijacker on 9/11), Ramzi Yousef (1st WTC bomber and, airliner bombing plots), Egyptian Islamic Jihad Cleric Sheik Abdul Rahman, and Osama BinLaden.
This book proves that the FBI cannot fight terrorism
we need to copy the british domestic intelligence service, MI5.
WE NEED TO HAVE ANSWERS. THIS BOOK IS A GREAT FIRST STEP... MUCH MORE WORK NEEDS TO BE DONE. HIGH RANKING OFFICIALS HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO...

communication breakdown.......2007-05-13
Convincing me that information gathered by our best intelligence agencies and personnel we Americans trust in the security of our great country could be such idiots is truly scary. What a fantastic insite into not only how these agencies work but who is able to "work" them.
The real story!.......2007-03-22
This is the best of many books written in the aftermath of 9/11 because it ties up many loose ends of earlier books as more information has become available. Whether right or left, everyone should value this book, and no one will ever again wonder whether anyone in the government knew or should have known about it before it happened. Although no one should consider this a "hit" piece on the government, Lance provides compelling proof that multiple government officials were either grossly negligent in failing to uncover 9/11 or willfully chose not to investigate matters that would have led them to discover the plot, for their own selfish reasons, for example, to cover up other bad behavior.

Readers may well find themselves looking nervously over their shoulders after finishing this memoir by Candice DeLong, who met a lot of Hannibal Lecter's soul mates during her 20 years as an FBI agent. An early practitioner of profiling, the analysis of crime data for what it reveals about the perpetrator, DeLong handled such ugly cases that she and her partner at one point were known as "the Gruesome Twosome." Her arrests included child molesters, rapists, and serial killers; among the book's useful features are her tips on what to do if you or your child is attacked. (Yell "Fire!" rather than "Help!" she advises; it attracts more attention.) Not that human nature's darker side was a surprise to DeLong, who came to the FBI from a job as head nurse in a maximum security psychiatric ward, where a violent paranoid schizophrenic crooned at her, "You better pray I never get out of these [restraints]. I could cut your head off. Or do you want me to tear your heart out?" The frank, conversational text ably captures the forceful personality of a female pioneer. The bureau had only been accepting women for eight years when DeLong joined in 1980, and her training at Quantico included brutal harassment by instructors determined to "wash out" any female applicant. Yet she had the toughness to survive and the good sense to know when to ignore her male colleagues' barbed jokes and when to kid them right back. Ultimately, she made friends and got ahead. As well as chronicling a stream of fascinating (and often deeply disturbing) high-profile cases such as the Unabomber, DeLong's narrative portrays a changing FBI, now valuing the special perspective contributed by female and African American agents it once scorned. --Wendy Smith
Book Description
Candice DeLong has been called a real-life Clarice Starling and a female Donnie Brasco. She has been on the front lines of some of the FBIs most gripping and memorable cases, including being chosen as one of the three agents to carry out the manhunt for the Unabomber in Lincoln, Montana. She has tailed terrorists, gone undercover as a gangsters moll, and posed as the madam for a call-girl ring. Now for the first time she reveals the dangers and rewards of being a woman on the front lines of the worlds most powerful law enforcement agency. She traces the unusual career path that led her to crime fighting, and recounts the incredible obstacles she faced as a woman and as a fledgling agent. She takes readers step by step through the profiling process and shows how she helped solve a number of incredible cases. The story of her role as a lead investigator on the notorious Tylenol Murderer case is particularly compelling. Finally, she gives the true, insiders story behind the investigation that led to the arrest of the Unabomberincluding information that the media cant or wont reveal. A remarkable portrait of courage and grace under fire, Special Agent offers a missing chapter to the annals of law enforcement and a dramatic and often funny portrait of an extraordinary woman who has dedicated her heart and soul to the crusade against crime.Candice DeLongs Top Cases: 1. TYMURS-(Bureau acronym for Tylenol Murders)8 victims, 1982. 2. F.A.L.N. Terrorist Organization, 198184. 3. Melissa Ackerman kidnap/rape/murder, 1986Serial child killer Brian Dugan (Illinois). Brian Dugan was the most prolific serial killer Illinois had ever encountered. 4. The Burlington Rapist (Illinois serial rapist), 1984. 5. The Lecherous Landlord was the first and most significant Discrimination in Housing case in the history of the Chicago FBI. 6. Undercover work on UNABOM, including an afternoon with Ted Kaczynski on his arrest day, April 3, 1996.

Solid story-telling with humor.......2007-05-12
This isn't the best book I've ever read but it's a fun and interesting read about her career in the FBI. She wisely chose stories from her career (which must have been difficult with so many years of experience) and always included down-to-earth humor and humility when appropriate. When she entered, the FBI was still adjusting to having women agents but she remained strong, taking the high road on many occasions when she was not treated fairly. As a result, her career flourished and her life is a story worth hearing. She is truly a trailblazer. Just nobody call her Candy.
Waste of money unless you want pure fiction.......2005-10-15
This book should be listed under "fiction," because that's what it is. Ms. DeLong is a legend in her mind and her mind only. Anyone who reads this and believes Ms. DeLong actually did the things she claimed to do is living in a dream, just like Ms. DeLong. Don't waste your money. Ms. DeLong is as much a real life Clarice Starling as Barney Fife is Elliot Ness. I would recommend the book if you are looking for a good laugh. I rated this garbage one star because I wasn't given the choice of zero or negative stars.
It Takes a Woman to do a Man's Job!.......2005-05-15
This was an interesting book about Candice Delong written by Elisa Petrini. Before becoming connected with the FBI, she'd been a nurse in a psychiatric ward. She was a divorced mother then, still something of a stigma in the early 1980s. In the late '80s she was assigned to the cocaine trafficing in Chicago.
There was a drug pipeline which stretched from the South American country of Columbia, then the cocaine capital of the hemisphere, up through Mexico into Texas; from there to Chicago. I've been told that it went through Lawrenceburg, TN on the way North.
There is a manadatory minimum 20-yr. sentence for anyone caught with ten or more kilograms of cocaine (about 22 lbs.). Each kilo is the size of a brick and worth $15,000 - 30,000 depending on the quality of the drug. Heroin is a lot more. She had some interesting times working with DEA in narcotics, even being tricked into babysitting for the informant on her first case.
She was involved in the Unabomber case and the way they discovered it was a former University of California at Berkley (where Savage (Weiner) may have found his cocaine) professor. She was in on the specifics in Montana, trapping Ted Kaezynski in 1996. Then back to San Francisco, where Savage settled.
She gives good pointers on how to handle home invastion or sexual assault. Always yell "Fire." There are almost twice as many sex crimes against women over sixty as certain killers go after the older women to act out their anger toward the strong female figures in their lives and the fact that elderly women are easier to control. Compliance is by no means the same as consent.
Rape is all about power, not sex. A woman's goal is to survive the attack. About 41% of rapes and sex assaults are committed by acquaintances of the victim. Sex offenders don't think like normal men and are always on the alert for what they think of as "provacative" behavior or dress.
After twenty years, she became a private citizen again and went on the lecture circuit. She is proud of her achievements and the privilege to work as a 'public servant' in the FBI.
Candice gives as good as she gets!.......2003-12-23
What an excellent read! The characters and relationships are very intriguing-the author's world is filled with both obvious and subtle villains, as well as obvious and subtle heroes. Candice herself is fun, likeable and strong enough to give as good as she gets. Though she is being constantly second-guessed, undermined and underestimated, she ends up turning her "weakness" into advantage time and again. The author sets up the rivalry between the FBI and the DEA and her unique role walking between the two. Highly recommended.
An incredible profile of dedication and compassion.......2003-10-09
Candice Delong tells it like it is. This book held me riveted and page turning. I could not put it down. Ms. Delong exemplifies a woman who is dedicated to justice and the right thing to do. At great personal expense Delong did her job. However, as a mother, she had her priorities clearly defined. Delong's son was her greatest priority. The part about the Unibomber wearing her son's coat touched me deeply. This lady is indeed a national hero. In all the turmoil that America is involved in, it is wonderful to read about a woman who has made a difference in so many lives. Courage, integrity, and ethics all apply to this amazing woman.

By now the whory notion of doing a tell-all book about your boss, the President, is a hoary one too. (It dates back to Ike, who got the treatment from one of his doctors.) But with this book, the Clinton administration breaks new ground by being on the receiving end of a kiss-and-sell from a member of the White House security staff. Aldrich was an FBI agent assigned to the White House under both Bush and Clinton who, as this book makes clear, didn't think the changeover was progress. He mostly fixes on anthropological differences: the Bush staffers were neat and straight, the Clintonites were sloppy and had kinky work- shift sex a stone's throw from the Oval Office. Who knows if it's true? Who knows if Aldrich was debating between this and other more devastating forms of revenge available to a presidential guard?

A must read...........2007-10-17
This book should be a must read at every high school in the country. What they did in our White House is a crime. It made my blood pressure hit the ceiling and confirmed my opinion of the Clinton administration.
AN EYE OPENER (and certainly a book you need to read).......2007-10-14
This book by retired F.B.I. agent Gary Aldrich is a few years old now, but still very timely, and especially so in view of the extremely high likelihood that Hillary Rodham [a/k/a Hillary Clinton] is going to be the 2008 Democrat nominee for the US Presidency. Aldrich was a career F.B.I. agent nearing the end of his career when the Clintons came to Washington and moved into the White House, where he was assigned; and what he saw then was both shocking and disgusting to him [and to others]. This book is based upon, and recounts and reveals, shocking and frankly very disturbing things that Gary Aldrich actually saw and heard going on in the White House, and every American needs to know about these things. Neither the mainstream press nor the Democrat Party will ever truthfully report the things that are revealed in this brave book, and certainly the "Clintons" and their sophisticated propaganda machine will not truly report what this book reveals, but all American voters need to know about these things now and before Hillary is judged at the polls in November 2008. After this book appeared Aldrich was visciously and unfairly pursued by Hard-Left characters trying to disparage and discredit him, and trying to cover up the misdeeds of the Clintons, as some reading this review may recall; but Aldrich bravely kept the book in print and thus kept its truth available to Americans who may chose to read it. The Clintons and those who are their operatives and tools do not want you to know about the things discussed between the covers of this book. It goes a long way to reveal the sordid truth about how a group of sorry communists and bad actors took control of the White House and of the highest echelons of American government after the election of 1992; but this book might have gone further : Aldrich originally had even more revelations in his manuscript, but the publisher put the book through an editing process that left some of the most revealing material out of the final, published book. Fortunately, there is a book that dares to tell the whole story. That other book, a patriots' project and a modern day book of true revelation, is presented as "fact-based fiction", but is based in fact upon close and careful research by people around the nation; and it is entitled THE EMPRESS PROJECT. To all who read this review, it is strongly recommended that if you love America and are anxious to keep her strong, then you need to read this good book by Gary Aldrich; and as soon as you have done so, you also need even more to read THE EMPRESS PROJECT. The Empress Project
Worth a read before the elections..........2007-09-03
The Aldrich account of the treatment of the White House and the Presidency rang true from the first page. Tied together with what coverage there was and has been in the media, then and now, his first hand detail of the Clintons complete disregard for our security, standards, and code of conduct is hard to ignore.
I think he risked a great deal publishing this book and find it sad that so many did not listen.
Turned My Stomach.......2007-08-24
The utter lack of respect the Clinton's have for this country our military and each other never cease to amaze me. The incompetance during the Clinton 'administration' is thoroughly laid out in this book written by a top FBI agent who was there.
There are a lot of typos in this book which can get irritating. I give them a pass because of the importance of the overall content. The truth is not in the typos as people like Al Franken would have you believe.
If you want more stomach turning facts about these two clowns, try Robert "Buzz" Patterson's book, 'Dereliction of Duty'. Patterson was Bill Clinton's top military aide. He was at the former presidents side at all times when he was on duty.
Read This BEFORE You Vote for "Her".......2007-07-08
This is a MUST READ which for a long time was unavailable.
The FBI (at whose orders?) refused permission for publication.
The book was privately published by brave people in, of all places, California, and was almost impossible to get. It's an eye-opener and really worth owning.

Forensic psychologist Reid Meloy identifies psychopathology as a deviant development disturbance characterized by inordinate instinctual aggression and the absence of a capacity bond. It is the definitive book on the subject.

Too Much Detail Here; Not Enough There... But a MUST.......2007-05-16
Exhaustively rooted as it is in the object relations theory of Bion, Blatt, Jacobson, Kernberg, Klein, Mahler, Ogden and Winnicott, Meloy's masterwork is theoretically grounded in the zeigeist of aggression as the unfortunate but understandable response to... aggression (as well as abandonment) and not solely some medical model notion of unfortunate biogenetics.
Simply put, Meloy sees the antisocial as the even darker side of the narcissist who didn't get his or her needs met, and took too much punishment for trying, regardless of how he or she was genetically predisposed (though he takes careful and lengthy note of the matter). We get a picture (albeit one that may be impossibly detailed for those who haven't already completed their doctorates) of a person who has constructed a bramble forest of defense mechanisms from denial and dissociation to interpersonal disconnect and disjointed logic to protect themselves from a world they view to be both threatening and stupid.
The psychopath has no empathy because he perceives no one else has any, either.
TPM would be better if it spent less time on serial murderers and rapists and more time on con artists and quasi-criminal grifters, however. It would also be better if it presented more evidence of the feminine brands of seduction and sadism that may have a lot to do with the very early life impetus for male sociopathy, as well as the explosion of sexually hyperstimulative wallet-vacuuming on the Internet.
That said, no one who's headed pell-mell for a degree in criminology, corrections -or- clinical psych should pass it up. Hard as it will be to read for all but those very familiar with the psychophilosophers listed in the first paragraph above, the wealth of experience packed in its 474 pages can only be ignored at the risk of grave consequences.
One Of The Best Books About Psychopathy.......2000-12-06
This is a classic. A must read. Although pricey, this book will be indispensable to both the student and student of life. I found it fascinating and very in-depth. I study psychopathy, so this book came in very handy when completing a website, along with Meloy's other work, "Violent Attachments."
Not quite the Psychopathy Bible...but almost.......2000-04-24
J. Reid Meloy's book provides a fascinating insight into the mind of the psychopath and is perhaps one of the most comprehension books on psychopathy since Hervey Cleckley's masterpiece, "The Mask of Sanity". This book is divided into four sections that discuss origins and previous theories, the psychopath's experience of emotion, the importance of aggression in the psychopathic mind, and treatment plans for psychopathy. While the first two sections on previous theories and psychopathic emotion are difficult to read because of the technical vocabulary terms, they still provide key information concerning the creation and signiture traits of a psychopathic individual. The reading becomes easier once Meloy starts to discuss certain case studies and the treatments he has used and studyied. The increased readibility does not mean that this book loses value for a clinician. On the contrary, I believe that this is a book that all individuals who are interested in understanding and identifying the psychopath, clinicians and lay persons alike, should read. Meloy's book is mainly from a forensic perspective and therefore almost all of his case studies involve criminal psychopaths. One important distinction not made clear in this book is that not all psychopaths are criminals. However, this distinction is not severely detrimental to the quality of the book, and it is still an excellent and very comprehensive source on this disturbing, yet interesting mental disorder.

In the spring of 1988, Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill set out to write the story of two infamous brothers from the insular Irish enclave of South Boston: Jim "Whitey" Bulger and his younger brother Billy. Whitey was the city's most powerful gangster and a living legend--tough, cunning, without conscience, and above all, smart. Billy, president of the state Senate, was a political heavyweight in Massachusetts. These facts alone make for an intriguing story, but as Lehr and O'Neill found out, this was only the beginning.
John Connolly, a rising FBI agent and fellow "Southie," had known the Bulgers since boyhood when Whitey rescued him from a playground fight. After investigating organized crime in New York, Connolly was reassigned to the bureau's Boston office in 1975, and was determined to make a name for himself by relying on his old connections. He succeeded in a big way by lining up Whitey as an FBI informant in an effort to bring down the Italian Mafia--a major coup for both the FBI and Connolly. In exchange, Bulger received protection. Though heavily involved in extortion, intimidation, assassination, and drug trafficking, Connolly's "good bad guy" did not receive so much as a traffic infraction for over 20 years. In time, however, the deal changed, and information began flowing the other direction, with Bulger manipulating Connolly and a small group of corrupt FBI agents to further his nefarious network. The criminals and the lawmen eventually became virtually indistinguishable.
Black Mass expertly details the twists and turns of this complex story, painting a vivid portrait of Boston's underbelly and its inclusive political machine, as well as exposing one of the worst scandals in FBI history. It's also an examination of loyalty--to family, home, and heritage--and "a cautionary tale about the abuse of power that goes unchecked." As a final favor, Connolly tipped off Bulger that he was to be indicted on racketeering charges in 1995, allowing him time to go on the lam (he's reported to have access to secret bank accounts across the country). He was added to the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted List" in 1999. --Sharon M. Brown
Book Description
John Connoly and James "Whitey" Bulger grew up together on the streets of South Boston. Decades later, in the mid 1970's, they would meet again. By then, Connolly was a major figure in the FBI's Boston office and Whitey had become godfather of the Irish Mob. What happened next -- a dirty deal to being down the Italian mob in exchange for protection for Bulger -- would spiral out of control, leading to murders, drug dealing, racketeering indictments, and, ultimately, the biggest informant scandal in the history of the FBI.
Compellingly told by two Boston Globe reporters who were on the case from the beginning, Black Mass is at once a riveting crime story, a cautionary tale about the abuse of power, and a penetrating look at Boston and its Irish population.

This item was exactly what i ordered in the exact condition that i ordered it in. Would definitly do business with seller again! Thank you
The First Book.......2007-02-23
This book was the first book to be written on the Bulger/FBI scandal. For those who don't know; James "Whitey" Bulger ran Bostons Irish mafia for almost 20 years. He also was a Top Echelon Informant for the FBI. As such, they let him get away with all types of crimes, including murder. Making matters worse, his younger brother Billy was the Senate president of the Mass. state Senate. Another brother, Jackie, was a juvenile court judge. This family took corruption to new heights. Eventually they fell. Whitey is now one of the top 10 fugitives. This book by two Boston Globe reporters, details the Bulger brothers, their history, Boston politics, and how they all came together. This is a good book. The only problems are because it was written in 1998-1999, some things have changed ( For example, Bulgers partner in crime, Steven Flemi, has pleaded guilty to several murders, and is doing life without parole ). Also, there wasn't enough written about the Top Echelon Informant program and all the problems with it. I'd recomend getting 2 other books along with this to get a complete picture. 1 is Dangerous Alliances by Ralph Ranelli; the other is The Brothers Bulger by Howie Carr. All 3 books should give you a complete view of this scandal.
Frightening account of corruption.......2006-10-20
Black Mass is an unbelievable account of the illicit relationship between two Irish mobsters from South Boston (Whitey Bulger and Stevie Flemmi) and their FBI handlers (John Connolly and John Morris).
The book begins with background on South Boston and the "us against them" mentality of the residents. As a young boy, John Connolly looked up to and admired Whitey Bulger, a local gangster, and left an indelible impression on Connolly one day when Bulger rescued Connolly from a fight. Years later, when Connolly was assigned to the Boston FBI office, he sought out Bulger to turn him into an informant, hoping to make a name for himself. Bulger's younger brother was president of the state senate and Whitey by this time was head of the Irish mob in Boston, both highly regarded in their own circles.
Though Connolly may have begun the relationship with good intentions, it very quickly turned corrupt, and the information Bulger supplied Connolly was self-serving, and Connolly, never having grown out of his idolization of Bulger, did all he could to keep Whitey's record clean. The Irish and Italian mafias had a tenuous relationship, so for Bulgur, informing on his competition got them out of his way, and as long as he worked with the FBI, he was untouchable. Bulger's partner in crime, Stevie Flemmi, as it turned out, had been an informant for several years before Bulger. Rather than the FBI handling them, Bulger and Flemmi cultivated a bond with Connolly and Morris to ensure that they could do anything without fear of punishment. Reports were made up, lost, or taken; phone calls from other law enforcement agencies were ignored; Bulger and Flemmi's importance was inflated; and they were always one step ahead of a sting. Under the protection of the FBI, Bulger and Flemmi were involved in racketeering, gun running, drugs, and over a dozen murders - and got away with it.
What amazes me is that supposedly Connolly and Morris only benefited by $7000 during the two decades that Bulger and Flemmi were informants. Initially I believe that Connolly just wanted notoriety, but he is also flamboyant and likes living the high life, which it appears he did.
Eventually Morris' conscience bothered him enough to start talking, but it still took several years before Bulger, Flemmi, Connolly and Morris were indicted. Connolly warned Bulger, enabling him to escape. Flemmi, on the other hand, still thought that Morris would tell the court that this was all a mistake, and get Flemmi off as he had done for so many years.
As far as I know, Bulger is still a fugative and on the 10 Most Wanted List. I hope that regulations are now being followed to ensure FBI handlers are accountable for their action or inaction, and that the chain of command is aware of what the agents are doing. This was a well-written and engrossing story.
Incredible Book.......2006-08-19
I've had an interest in Boston and the organized crime around Boston for a while. I've actually had a big interest in the mafia in general. This is a great book with a lot of information that is very useful in understanding how corruption in the system allows organized crime to become more powerful and almost unstoppable.
More to come??.......2006-08-05
One might ask after reading this excellent book whether 2 kids, say brothers, were groomed to follow in the Bulger's footsteps but perhaps something went awry??
I know of 2 brothers from Massachusetts. Both were raised in state care during Bulger's reign. The older brother went into the army and a couple years later the younger was being harassed by activities a man who bore the same name in the same town, as if the younger brother had another identity created and which was made to look bad to hurt him in the identity confusion following. It is speculated the older brother set up the younger brother, both from Woburn,Mass and that the older brother after a name change went into FBI service at his younger brother's constant expense.Wherever the younger brother went the older followed and bad thingsalways happened to the younger as a result. There is a lot that went on but it looks as a duplicate of the Bulger's good guy/bad guy pairing for controlling different levels of influence was going on.

Truth in Print....Get the book!.......2007-08-21
Hey Folks,
Mrs.Good takes you through her experiences with the sexual predators that she enounters in her great work as a civilian UC helping the FBI put these folks where they belong...in a cage away from our kids! This book discusses the many facets of this section of law enforcement and even brings you into a trial and shows you the sleazy attempt by a defense lawyer to get the predator from having to do the time for his, or her, crime. This is a great book to companinion "To catch a Predator" by Chris Hasen. These two books are must reads for anyone interested in this subject. God Bless you all, Doneaux.
I commend R. Stephanie Good for this book.......2007-05-21
I have read this book, and found it very interesting! Repetitive it was NOT. There are ALOT of sick pediphiles out there, and this lets them know we have their number! This woman works at getting them off the internet, and it doesn't take over night, it's alot of making sure she has who she thinks she has. I think R. Stephanie Good is a "PLUS" to life, if only more people were more like her this world would be a better place.
Reality.......2007-05-15
The book exposes the real world we live in and the dangers it poses. The author does an excellent job of telling the stories and not getting into too much detail. We need more people willing to risk their own personal life to help others.
great book.......2007-04-04
Wow...This book really lets you right into the middle of these frighteningly perverted cases. The Dateline series only scratches the surface. Before reading this book, you can't even imagine the things these grown men will do and say to get what they want. Thank God for people like Stephanie Good and the FBI agents she worked with who protect our children from these horrors. Hopefully this book will raise the awareness of this problem and make parents more aware of the dangers their children face online.
