3 out of 5 stars 2007 Moon sign book.......2007-06-17

This book is very interesting, however, the planting dates are not very well defined. you'll find some dates are repeated and some dates are left out. the previous year's book was much better laid out and seemed more cohesive with the dates.

5 out of 5 stars I Wouldn't Be Without It.......2007-05-07

From the time I discovered that astrology, specifically lunar astrology could be applied in a magical way and that there was a book that helped one do it, I was hooked. I purchased my first Moon Sign Book in 1993. I also get the Sun Sign book but am nowhere near as attached to it as I am the Moon Sign Book. I love the tables. I perm my hari in the /Sun sign of Cancer when the Moon is in Leo, preferably on the waxing and this book helps determine when that occurs. I also use the Llewellyn Astrological Calender. I highly recommend both!

Wonderful book. Very detailed and informative. A must have for anyone who follows the signs of the moon.

5 out of 5 stars good book.......2007-02-13

The layout this year is better then it has been in the past. Easier to find what you want at a quick look.

3 out of 5 stars La Luna.......2007-02-12

Ah, la Luna...you have to love her. Being a police dispatcher in a crime filled area I wouldn't be caught without my Moon sign book. (Yes, what they say about Full Moons is true.) I've bought this book since I can't remember when? If you're a novice be advised you'll need other books and charts if you want a full horoscope, for the Moon is only 1/12th of the story.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and practical.......2007-09-27

I was impressed by the positive comments and the honest description of what life is really like for a foreigner in China. I'm reading the book with a highlighter and I'm sure I'll be able to put many of the suggestions into practice. It even helped me understand more about Chinatowns in my own country. I can't wait to go to China!

Enjoyed reading this book due to his openness and the flow of the writing. Jam packed with practical information and presented in a positive way. It is a definite keeper which I'm sure I will go back to again and again.

5 out of 5 stars We're ready for our move to China!.......2007-07-19

After reading almost every book available on the topic of China and living in China, this was by far one of the very best. I really appreciated how the Strother's candor and personal experiences added to the book. The book is so interesting, I was actually able to read this book cover to cover in about a weekend. All the tips and pointers allowed my husband and I to feel more prepared for our visit to China prior to our actual move. While visiting China, we met with expatriates currently living there and their comments echoed what I read in this book, making me feel much more comfortable about being prepared for the move. This book is a must have for anyone considering a move to China!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My Nicaraguan born relatives were consulting the book for information.......2007-09-24

I bought this book in anticipation of my week long Nicaraguan trip. It accompanied me throughout the trip and it was invaluable. Being a non Spanish speaker accompanying my Nicaraguan-born relatives on the trip, I found it funny that I was constantly being asked to look in my book to get information on where we should eat, where we were going and what certain rules were. I especially loved the sections on cultural norms. At 29 years old, I read these sections and thought, " So that's why my mom does that!" Especially the part where it says Nicaraguans point with their lips. My mom was the only person I knew who did that and the realization that there is a whole country of lip pointers was funny to learn about. Even if you are not going to live in Nicaragua, I highly recommend this book as a prerequisite before traveling there. Yeah, you may not care for certain sections dealing with home buying and obtaining visas but the parts that deal with describing certain areas and the maps provided are very helpful. A Great Buy!!

5 out of 5 stars Much needed information.......2007-05-12

The info in this book is really helpful ... contains things you need to know but may not have thought to ask. It is easy to understand and is also entertaining. It's worth buying, especially if you're considering living in Nica.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book on Expat life in Nicaragua.......2007-04-04

Moon Living Abroad in Nicaragua proved to be a wonderful resource as my family and I began to make our fanatasy of living (at least part-time) in Nicaragua a reality. The authors provide lots of details on daily life as well as extensive profiles of Nicaraguan cities and towns across the country. I most appreciated the diverse voices of the expat community that are included in this book. While both authors seem to have many years of experience living in Nicaragua between them, the additional perspectives increase the book's breadth. This book got me through a long winter in Seattle!

5 out of 5 stars WINNER of the Best Place-Based Guidebook of 2006!.......2007-01-14

I'm pleased to announce that Moon Living Abroad in Nicaragua was voted the *Best Place-Based Guidebook of 2006* on the acclaimed eco-tourism website, Planeta.com:

"With essential information and practical advice on obtaining a visa, renting or buying a home, learning the language, and navigating daily life in Nicaragua, Moon Living Abroad in Nicaragua gives those dreaming of moving abroad the tools they need to actually make the move. This book is the ultimate ex-pat survival guide!"

5 out of 5 stars Awesome book!!!!.......2006-12-31

This book provides PRICELESS information to those traveling to or planning on living in Nicaragua. Joshua & Randy have a way of describing the country and its' beautiful inhabitants with a charming mix of personal experience and important facts. I read the book about 2 weeks before my Nica trip and would have been a bit lost without the book- especially the section on cultural norms. Thanks for the book, gentleman. I highly reccomend it!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Dream Book For Hawaii-lovers!.......2000-12-25

It is a shame that Jocelyn's wonderful, dreamy love letter to living in Hawaii is out of print. For starters, the dust jacket is pretty enough, but the book itself is bound in a handsome Hawaiian fabric print. Inside, colors jump off the page as homes ranging from surfers' one-room beach town digs to graceful Nuuanu mansions set you to fantasizing about living in Paradise. Chapters are divided into such themes as paniolo [cowboy] homes, mountain homes, beach homes, contemporary, plantation houses ranging in style from bare bones to elegant...the entire gamut is covered. There are delightful details and tableaux pictured everywhere, showing home dwellers' tabletop arrangements, Hawaiiana collections, hand crafted koa wood furniture, beautiful one of a kind local crafts...I could go on and on about the richness and variety of material in Under The Hula Moon. I write Hawaii guidebooks for a living and spend a lot of time in the islands, looking at the outside of peoples' homes, wondering what's going on inside. Since I'm not the type to just knock on strangers' doors to ask for a tour, Jocelyn has taken me into wonderful places I would otherwise never see.from0AAnyone who has fallen under Hawaii's spell and has ever fantasized about moving to the islands will treasure this book and spend many long hours with it in a favorite reading spot. Few books have given me the years of enjoyment that Jocelyn Fujii's has, and until some publisher has the good sense to bring it back into print, it is worth the seach to find a copy.

5 out of 5 stars shaka, brah.......2000-09-13

I am sorry that I generously gave out as many copies of this far out book without saving a single copy for myself, because now I can't find it anywhere except at my friends' homes. And they all want to keep it as a reference for their visitors from the mainland.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Coffee Table Book!.......2000-05-02

If you looking for something that will catch your eye, and that you can just sit down, relax, and browse ... then this is book for you! It's a great book have around for others to look at and see Hawai`i through other people's eyes. It's always great to see how many different people can find the beauty in this paradise.

4 out of 5 stars I'm so Impressed with the book " Raising With The Moon . . .".......2007-05-08

I've never gardened by the signs of the moon until this year. As a matter of fact I haven't done much gardening and thinking back, I just remembered my mother did plant and harvest everything by the signs of the zodiac and she had great luck with her gardens. This year I ordered the book "Raising With the Moon: The Complete Guide to Gardening and Living by the Signs of the Moon by Jack R. Pyle. Going by this book, I've planted everything for my vegetable garden and my flower garden and I'm so impressed. Everything is growing and looks great. I really believe I'll have great luck with this type of gradening just the way my mother did.

As a child growing up in a farming community, I always heard things like; never geld a horse during a full moon, etc. What I'd thought were old wive's tales are finally explained in this delightful book! Besides giving insight to what we often heard in the farmer's almanacs, this book breaks it down into easy to read explanations. There is also a planting guide, a chapter on soil preparation, and plenty of details as to why these rules make perfect sense. Finally, everything I'd heard as a child about these ancient planting traditions has been explained. Maybe now I can actually grow that garden I've dreamed of?

    Book Description

For centuries humans have recognized that the moon’s cycles influence our lives and the world around us—the ebb and flow of the tides, women’s menstrual cycles, and the most beneficial times to plant and harvest. But this ancient body of knowledge—the impact of lunar rhythms on our lives and our surroundings—has become known to fewer and fewer of us, as we have migrated from agrarian to urban living. Now in Guided by the Moon, authors Johanna Paungger and Thomas Poppe recapture this wisdom, providing advice to help readers determine the timing most likely to bring them success in anything they do. Paungger and Poppe cover every area of daily life, from health, beauty, and housekeeping to nutrition, gardening, and family outings. Guided by the Moon is the most comprehensive, accessible guide to this native wisdom—and will be an invaluable resource for everyone seeking to harness the moon’s power to live happier, more harmonious lives. Not simply is this a book on lunar astrology, but a comprehensive guide to the moon’s influence on our lives and surroundings—and includes charts, illustrations, and a moon calendar through 2010.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best & most acessable Moon books ever........2005-09-24

I've read a couple other Moon books, but this one is by far the best. Why? Because Ms. Morrison (much like another of my favorite authors, Patricia Telesco) has a certain and very special way of making things simple, accessable and right to the point without talking down to the reader, getting lost in Craft mumbo-jumbo or making things harder than they really need to be as I've seen so many times by other authors. There are no lectures, power trips or mind-numbing lists of hard-to-find ingredients here; no lofty words or flowery rituals. In fact, you probably already have many of the ingredients she mentions. This book is practical, useful, wonderfully organized and chock full of Moon facts, spells, rituals and other worthy and interesting tidbits that can indeed be used every day. I found it a fast read, which is good -this way I can get right into things :) If you've been disappointed, bored or overwhelmed by other Moon Magic books, give this one a try. Simply put, this book is a pleasure to read, use and own; it's one I'm sure I'll refer to often. I'm keeing this right next to my much-loved copy of Everyday Magic and will likely be following up with her companion book, Everyday Sun Magic.

5 out of 5 stars Such a breath of fresh air!.......2005-06-26

Dorothy Morrison truly is concise and precise with her teachings!A book for all..from Novices to the more learned.
Very easy to understand and apply.
I highly recommend this book to all,who desire to learn the simplfied way.Way to go Dorothy!

5 out of 5 stars Illuminateing the Night.......2005-02-25

Ms. Morrison gives a great history of our nearest neighbor and her influance on us. She also helps you know how to use thease energies in your Craft work.

5 out of 5 stars Incorporate the Moon's Magic into Your Life.......2004-01-07

We follow the cycles of the moon whether we realize it or not. We watch the moon change from new to full and back again and maybe we are aware of some of its history or influences.

We practice our magic's by the cycles of the moon, but how many of us know the reasons? We may be aware of the moons effect on the tides and women's cycles, but do we understand the connection of the moon to weather, growth and magic?

Dorothy Morrison has put together in this book a wonderful primer that is chock full of moon lore, moon mystery and moon magic. And because of all the bits of information collected here, even the experienced practitioner will read through this book and come away scratching their head saying "I didn't know that!"

Ms. Morrison includes in this book some of the history of moon lore and moon cycles. Included are bits of 'old sayings' and superstitions as well as names of the monthly moons and what they mean. She reviews the moon phases and effects.

Ms. Morrison also discusses astrological terms referencing the moon and what they actually mean. For those who are not familiar or don't remember or are not sure, this section alone is worth the price of the book. Then she takes it a step further by explaining how these references apply in relationship to our magic and our lives. Times and cycles for ritual, magic and spells are also discussed and examined.

Empowering moon rituals filled with positive affirmations for the building of personal self esteem, which Ms. Morrison is so good at writing, are here for you to incorporate into your own ritual material. And, of course, no book by Dorothy Morrison would be complete without a whole section of her wonderful spells.

As usual, Dorothy takes all this and puts it into a book that shows you, step by step, how to work this into your everyday life, making it a practical as well as informative book.

There is so much more here that I've not included in this review because it would take pages to write about. Needless to say, Ms. Morrison has been thorough in her research. There is a table of contents to help you find what you are looking for as well as a bibliography. Add to that her easy to read format and no nonsense approach to teaching, and you have a winner here.

This is a book that should be considered when you are in the store looking for something practical, informative and just plain good to read and add to your library. boudica

    Book Description

The Moon: Resources, Future Development and Settlement describes feasible human settlement of the Moon in the coming century. Small scale, tele-operated and autonomous robotic in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) projects are first, followed by electric power, communication, and transportation networks manufactured from lunar resources. These infrastructure networks are field tested an commissioned in the polar regions of the Moon, and permanent human settlements are then established. Through several phases of development, the utility networks grow, and the number of permanently inhabited bases increases to inculde all areas of interest on the Moon. The book stresses that the envisioned "Planet Moon Project" will link the technological and cultural expertise of humanity to the virtually limitless resources of space. From that beginning, the people of the Earth reap substatntial benefits from space, and the human species will evolve into a spacefaring civilization.

    5 out of 5 stars A Major Achievement.......2004-09-28

As one of the contractors selected by NASA this year to design a lunar architecture, I can say this book provides an excellent and detailed inventory what is known about the Moon's challenges and ways that have been devised to overcome them. Peter Eckart is a hero of the lunar movement; if he were available, he would have a leading role on our lunar architecture team.

5 out of 5 stars Best introduction to lunar development.......2001-01-16

This book is the best up-to-date introduction to lunar development, focusing on the primary technical infrastructure necessary to expand from an initial base via In Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) to global development of what the authors term "Planet Moon". The book makes a clear case first for why we should do this, and then in quite detailed outline, how. While some technical components, such as remote robotic tele-operation, or lunar materials mining and processing, still require research and development work, nothing in this project is far from mundane things we already know how to do. The book isn't entirely self-consistent and the logical separation of topics sometimes seems a bit odd, but the range of material covered is satisfyingly broad: lunar topography and composition; railways, telecommunications and materials transport; requirements on construction and chemical processing equipment; human-suitable habitats, life support, agriculture, and "cislunar" transport and logistics, and more. Beyond the technical discussion of the physical, chemical, and engineering issues are several sections of the book dealing with lunar government, including a proposal for creation of a "Lunar Economic Development Authority" (LEDA) following a port authority model, which looks extremely promising. At least as valuable as the 10 main chapters are the 20 appendixes, to which over half the book's pages are devoted. These appendixes, based heavily on work published elsewhere, bring a lot of information together in one place available for ready inter-comparison. Perhaps the most interesting is also the longest, Appendix E, which thoroughly covers the proposed processes for lunar oxygen extraction and related chemical processing. This book is an essential guide for anybody hoping to work on lunar development and participate in, as the authors phrase it, the "Planet Moon Project".

5 out of 5 stars immediate classic - ambitious primer with vision & scope.......2000-08-04

Take your pick of "must buy", "immediate classic", or "ambitious Primer with Vision and Scope". Not a few people have taken a hard in depth look at what it will take to establish a permanent outpost on the Moon - as if that was an end all and be all goal in and of itself. In this new volume, Schrunk and his team are clearly out to do more. Seeing the Moon in the much wider light as a world with considerable mineral resources and its strategic location on the shoulder of Earth' gravity well, they outline a feasible, realistic scenario for the coming century. Their goal is not "a" moon base. It is a global integration of the Moon into Earth's economy. Looking at the Moon's resources, where they are located, and at which parts of the Moon have special advantages, they take us from a first south polar outpost step by step into a future when humans will be busy all over the Moon, and making money doing so. Their vision is grounded on established technologies, never depending on developments or breakthroughs that may or may not ever happen. On the airless Moon, good old fashion electric railroads (eventually MagLev) will be the principal way of moving goods and materials from one part of the globe to another. Relying solely on solar power, they manage the long lunar nightspans by setting up grids that loop both poles at approximately 85° N and S, latitudes, depending on the terrain, of course. The Moon will produce power for Earth, and become the principal spaceport by which we open the rest of the Solar System and beyond. By the turn of the next century, hundreds of thousands of people, and maybe more, will live and work on the Moon. Profusely illustrated with B/W sketches, the authors take us through every well-reasoned and grounded step. For all of us interested in the Moon, this book is a must read. Do buy it!

4 out of 5 stars Some day this all might become true!.......2000-04-25

I've been reading a lot of books about the moon and it's exploration lately. Some deal with the Apollo past but also some about the (near) future. This book gives a good overview of the aspects involved in developing a permanent base on the moon. It even deals with long term development of cities containing thousands of people. The concepts presented are viable although it presents some concepts that are to far into the future to my likings. It not only presents the theorectical concepts but also the work that has been done in relevant research areas and the problems encountered. It is not science fiction. Not only does the book cover the technical challenges but it also deals with economical and political aspects of a lunar base. If you want to get a clear picture of the current state of the art of lunar development this book is a very good starting point.

5 out of 5 stars Very Appropriate and Fun Guide!.......2005-05-04

I recently gave this book as a gift to my 11 year old niece on her birthday. Not sure how she'd take it, I was a bit nervous that it might be awkward. For the remainder of that evening, she was glued to that book! She even read certain sections to me and was very excited about the recipes and stickers. She especially loved the box it came in and immediately began decorating it with the enclosed stickers. A couple of months later, I was in her bedroom and noticed she had the book on her bedside table. She continues to enjoy it and her Mom is delighted with me!

5 out of 5 stars I wish this book was out when I got my first moon!.......2005-02-08

This is a book that should have come out decades ago! When I got my first moon long ago, my mother was shy about showing me the way and so I received little direction. I can only imagine how much less strange this whole journey would have seemed if I had received such a gift! This book covers so much to make the transformation to womanhood easier (for the Mom passing on the info especially!)including mood stickers, calendars, general how-tos, plus there is great background information! I am grateful to have this guide to pass on to my daughter!

      5 out of 5 stars Finally - A Father's Perspective.......2005-02-06

I love my daughter. And finally I've found a resource to help me stay connected while she takes this important step...the first time in her life that I'm at a loss for words. I'm sure there are many more fathers like me that forever will thankfully remember when their daughter's first period was transformed from being her first step away to celebrating her First Moon. We all love your book. I'm sure others will, too.
