Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

The Magic Years is almost 40 years old, yet this book still offers a wonderful way of looking at how kids think, and why they act the way they do based on their cognitive and emotional abilities. The Magic Years refers to the psychological sense of discovery and magical power a young child feels. This book is used in many child development courses, but is a good read for anybody wanting to understand the young child's mind as he grows, acquires knowledge, and moves into more logical thought patterns. Selma Fraiberg's respect for children radiates from the pages. Take a little bit of time with this book; as Fraiberg says, "It is the quality of our understanding ... that provides us with the right method at critical moments."

Book Description

To a small child, the world is an exciting but sometimes frightening and unstable place. In The Magic Years, Selma Fraiberg takes the reader into the mind of the child, showing how he confronts the world and learns to cope with it. With great warmth and perception, she discusses the problems at each stage of development and reveals the qualities -- above all, the quality of understanding -- that can provide the right answer at critical moments.

5 out of 5 stars Well worth reading.......2007-10-13

Of the twenty or so books on parenting I read after our first daughter was born, I recommend this one to friends most often. Based on research, well written and with almost no redundant material, this book helped me understand psychological development of our child very much. Two more books I would readily recommend are Haim G Ginott's Between Parent and Child and Kathy Hirsh-Pasek's Einstein Never Used Flash Cards.

4 out of 5 stars Very technical. Not for the lay person...like me........2007-08-01

This is a very well respected manuscript, but if you are a parent looking for answers, this is probably not your book. Its written for other professionals. It's pretty dry and hard to read. I was looking for something geared a little more towards parents trying to solve the every day problems we face raising our children. But this is more of an "industry" book and reads somewhat like a textbook.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have Resource for Parents Interested in their Baby's and Young Child's Emotional and Mental Development.......2007-07-28

I first read this book 28 years ago when my daughter was born. I didn't remember the whole name nor the author, but I had read it several times, and it made such a lasting impression on me that I did remember the words "The Magic Years". I was very glad to see it's still in print. Now I'm going to send it to a niece who just had a baby. There are many books about the physical sequence of development in babies and toddlers and how to enhance each stage of development but none addresses their mental and social development and needs as completely as this book does. Unfortunately for babies and young children, adults tend to view their mental and social development from an adult's perspective. This can result in a lot of misinterpretations and misunderstandings regarding a baby's or young child's behavior. What I remember most about this book is that unlike any other book it enabled me to see the world from a baby's and very young child's point of view. It vividly describes what adjusting to and living in our world is like for babies amd young children and enables parents to see the world from their perspective. The result is parents who understand their baby's and young child's behavior and who can then react to and influence it positively instead of negatively. The book is not for those who want an easy to read, quick, month by month synopsis of their baby's development. But for the parents who want a thorough understanding of their baby's or young child's mental & social development and needs and who want to do their best to meet these needs, it's a resource unlike any other: a resource I've remembered for 28 years and one I would highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars fascinating, enlightening, highly recommended.......2007-07-21

This book is excellent. It was given to me by my shrink, and I have often thought of how grateful I am for that. I have raised an older foster child, but upon the arrival of a baby, discovered new parental challenges for which I wished to be well prepared. I found this book to be extremely enlightening as to the way that infants and young children view their world and the healthy way a parent can respond to them. It was easy to see where one can misinterpret a child's behavior and make mistakes that will adversely affect the parent-child relationship and the child's emotional development, and set the stage for lifelong conflicts plus emotional inbalance. I am VERY glad I read this book and have bought many copies for friends and even strangers.
I'd like to comment that I always offer this with my gift: There are a few pages right at the beginning that are somewhat technical, delving into biochemistry and such, and that might scare some readers off. With this minor exception, the book is a very enjoyable read with humorous examples and descriptions.
In addition, I am a buddhist, and view part of my life's work as forgetting my ego, However, as Dr. Fraiberg explains, the infant is born absolutely self-centered, and her book is invaluable in setting the child up to be emotionally healthy enough to become autonomous and objective, which in turn will allow it to develop compassion and generosity to others.
Very, very highly recommended.
P.S. I am an electrician, not an expert in the field of child development.

Although this book was referred to us by our pediatrician I found it very difficult to actually get through. It rambles on and on not....not an easy read which makes it hard to ascertain any information.
I would not recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Homeschooling.......2006-10-05

My husband is a full time student and we live in student housing. I received this from one of the neighbors that was taking classes in child care and education. I had completely forgotten I had it until my husband found it going through a box of books we were going to get rid of. I decided to look through it before getting hauling it off and I'm so glad that I did. It goes from September through June, with approximately 20 projects for each month, except for September which only has 15, with each month being broken down into 4 sub categories. For instance, right now we're working on October. There are four sections, labled Colors; Foods; Farms & Farm Animals; and Halloween. We're in the Colors section and today we made leaf paintings using leaves we collected yesterday in the Fall Walk. I know this is set up for 2 year olds, by my 35 mo loves it as well as my 19 mo. I have found all of the projects simple and fun to do with my little ones. They love having their projects displayed around the house and telling their father of them when he gets home from school or work. I had never meant to homeschool any of my children. I wouldn't really know where to start but since finding this book I have realized just what a bounty of information is actually out there and this way I could teach my little ones everything they needed to know at their own pace instead of pushing them through just to be able to meet an outline that teaches my children absolutely nothing. My oldest has had to repeat Kindergarten because he couldn't keep up with the rest of the class. I mean, come on, Kindergarten? What happened to that just being a year of socialization and fun while learning the basics of our numbers, colors and the alphabet? I was totally shocked at the anger I received from his teacher when he didn't pass any of his entrance tests to Kindergarten when I didn't even know he had to take these tests. I certainly didn't when I was in Kindergarten. But this book, and the other two in the series have been a major help to me in building my own curriculum until I choose an accreditied Homeschool system just so my little ones will learn the basics. Besides, this is a wonderful time to spend with them, watching their little faces light up with the joy of learning. I have also found the Skills Concepts Checklist that was provided beneficial in gaging where my children were and if they are on time developmentally wise.

        Book Description

        Positive Discipline for Positive Results!
Caring for young children is one of the most challenging tasks an adult will ever face. No matter how much you love the child, there will be moments filled with anger, frustration, and even desperation. There will also be questions: Why does my child deliberately lie to me? Why won't she listen to me? Should I ever spank her when she is disobedient?
Over the years, millions of parents just like you have come to trust Jane Nelsen's Positive Discipline series. These books offer a commonsense approach to child-rearing that so often is lacking in today's world. Now completely updated to report the latest research in child development, Positive Discipline for Preschoolers will teach you how to use kind but firm support to raise a child who is responsible, respectful, and resourceful. You'll find practical solutions on how to:
·Prevent misbehavior through nonpunitive discipline—not punishment
·Avoid the power struggles that often come with the challenges of mastering sleeping, eating, and potty training
·Instill valuable social skills and positive behavior inside and outside the home by using methods that teach important life skills
·Employ family and class meetings to tackle discipline and developmental problems
        ·And much, much more!
"Once parents grasp and use the amazing power of Positive Discipline, their home will be transformed into a place of love and learning like no other."
—Joan K. Comeau, Ph.D., president, Family Information Services
"By leading parents in a natural direction of wisdom and responsibility, this book encourages trust in the parent/child relationship and asks the simple yet profound question, 'Given this particular situation, what will you do?'"
—Janice Lind Raun, M.A., family therapist

3 out of 5 stars Not be the best book for those using Attachment Parenting.......2007-09-18

There was a spot in the book that I didn't particularly like. It was about co-sleeping. Although it was claiming not to be putting down co-sleeping, it was definately inferring that it was better not too, I felt that it was putting the undertone suggestion that it wasn't the best thing. That children need to be able to self sooth etc...We are strong advocates for Attachment Parenting, and very researched in this area, and those related topics around it, and it is not correct to assume a child won't learn to sleep on their own, if not put in an alone situation, or that they will some how miss out on skill's like calming or soothing themselves, if you don't push them more quickly towards independence. Children will grow independent, on their own time table, and because of the attachment you unselfishly allow when they are young, which is not pulling away the security they need, they become more grounded, having been allowed to mature on their own, and reach towards independence step-by-step when they are ready, they grow up feeling secure. When children grow up feeling secure, that were not rushed into sleeping in their own bed, or forced to stop Breastfeeding before they are ready, etc... These people grow up more secure and independent than otherwise. Our Daughter just turned Three and still sleeps with me, and i'm in no hurry to move Her anywhere, and She's a very happy person, and, with no issues, and growing more and more independent on Her own, anyway, everyday : )

This does NOT mean that we put down any other Parents for anything they are doing, or whats right for them. Thats not what I mean. We have Friends that Parent in all different ways. I just wanted to say my peace about the co-sleeping, for some Families like us, it works, and has turned out to be a great experience, and I don't agree that it is some how any kind of a negative. For us it's a definate Positive!

5 out of 5 stars A great help in our household........2006-11-04

Jane Nelson once again provides sound, practical advice for creating a positive energy household. Our 4 year old had us spiralling out of control until we read this book and made some simple changes and became more understanding of her developmental capacities.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect helper when you need it most!.......2006-03-13

Our daughter has just turned three and wow, what happened? We feel like we have tried everything for discipline from time out to consequences and even the "S" word. Nothing really works. My friend recommended this book and it really does help. It's not the end all and be all of all books but it reminds you to think on their level and gives you good ideas for when you are faced with those very tough moments. I must say they suggest a positive time out, which I thought was CRAZY but figured I have tried everything else so why not? It really does work and continues to work. The best part is that I make it her choice and most times don't even have to get mad. I simply say, if you are going to behave that way (explaining the bad behavor, i.e. not playing nicely) please go to your time out corner until you are ready to come back and play nicely and sometimes she goes running in there crying (and then will return letting me know she is done and ready to play nicely) and sometimes she'll stop and think a moment and say, I don't need time out I can play nicely now. It's amazing.

4 out of 5 stars Great advice, but have support.......2005-09-27

Dealing with preschoolers, as any parent will tell you, is a challenge. How do you deal with this little being, that is both independent and dependent, at the same time? Nelsen, et al, have provided a common sense approach to raising preschoolers.

The ideas that are presented in this book, when used properly, are incredibly powerful. An example of this is recognizing the message being sent by the misbehavior of a preschooler. If you can identify what the message being sent is, then you have a greater chance of being able to redirect the behavior. Of course, you have to be willing to take the time to analyze the behavior and define what you are willing to do in response to the behavior. While the tools provided in this book are very powerful when used properly, they can also be very damaging when used improperly. If you have someone that can read the book with you and provide support, you will be much more effective at implementing the strategies successfully.

This book provides an idea for raising children without using humiliation or punitive measures to get short term changes in behavior. If you are looking for support for the, "My parents raised me this way and I turned out just fine." mentality, then find another book. If on the other hand, you are looking for a book that provides a basis for what I would consider to be an improved method of dealing with preschoolers, then this is your book.

The one thing that kept me from giving this book five stars is that it fails to address immediate safety issues. In many cases the book suggests plans that are implemented after you have had a moment to consider your response. It would be helpful if the authors provided some ideas as to how to respond to potentially dangerous situations without losing your cool and still treating your child as a human being who has control over their own actions.

4 out of 5 stars Best guidance for a lost parent.......2005-09-07

WOW!! My 4 year old has been pushing me to the limits and all I kept thinking was that I was failing. This book has put so much into perspective for me and has given suggestions on how to handle situations. I don't yell as much and I don't get angry either. I have a better understanding of my daughter's mindset and it has helped with my 17 month old too!!

I could tell my little three-year-old boy was bored and needed some new stimulation. I used the ideas from The Little Hands Big Fun Craft Book and together with my boy created many colourful artworks including an aquarium, mail pouch, masks, flags and scrapbooks. My boy enjoyed cutting, pasting and coloring involved in the process and we together had a great time doing role plays afterwards. It is a good, easy-to-follow fun book for boys and girls!

This book is perfect for your little ones. My 2 1/2 year old daughter loved the crafts we have already done out of the book. I also work with children as my job and also at my church. I highly recommend this book to all you parents, grandparents, Aunt & Uncles, All care givers, and even the expecting parents. A+ Book.

4 out of 5 stars The background History of the Sharpe Novels.......2007-09-01

An interesting walk through the era of the Sharpe novels with background stories on the state of the Armed Forces in England, India and France. Tie-ins to the novels of actual events, artwork of the men and materials of the day, and of course maps of the campaigns keep the interest of the Sharpe series going considering the dearth of New Sharpe adventures that are currently available.

        3 out of 5 stars Decent Also-Ran In A Very Crowded Field.......2006-04-24

So many introductory early childhood education books exist for college classes! It reminds me of a excellent year for movie-actors: so many excellent Oscar-worthy performances that would get nominated/win in a less competitive year get shut out of the academy awards that categories face much controversy.

In the same way, this "Oscar-worthy" textbook just gets squeezed out of a rowboat by three other superweights: J.A. Brewer's INTRODUCTION TO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, Stephenie Feeney's WHO AM I IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN?, and G.S. Morrison's FUNDAMENTALS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION.

Here's how good it is: if the three, aboved-named texts did not exist, Hendrick/Weissman's book would either sit near or at the top of the introductory ECE textbook mountain. It gets everything right in DAP, history, theory, parent involvement, infancy/toddlerhood, PreK/K, primary school grades, and special needs. It reads well AND presents thorough, APA-styled research citations.

Only one drawback: three other texts do what this one does...only better.

Try those other three texts first. If those do not suffice, then this is the one. Two thumps up!
