Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

In the summer of 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton set off aboard the Endurance bound for the South Atlantic. The goal of his expedition was to cross the Antarctic overland, but more than a year later, and still half a continent away from the intended base, the Endurance was trapped in ice and eventually was crushed. For five months Shackleton and his crew survived on drifting ice packs in one of the most savage regions of the world before they were finally able to set sail again in one of the ship's lifeboats. Alfred Lansing's Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage is a white-knuckle account of this astounding odyssey.

Through the diaries of team members and interviews with survivors, Lansing reconstructs the months of terror and hardship the Endurance crew suffered. In October of 1915, there "were no helicopters, no Weasels, no Sno-Cats, no suitable planes. Thus their plight was naked and terrifying in its simplicity. If they were to get out--they had to get themselves out." How Shackleton did indeed get them out without the loss of a single life is at the heart of Lansing's magnificent true-life adventure tale.

Book Description

The astonishing saga of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton's survival for over a year on the ice-bound Antarctic seas, as Time magazine put it, "defined heroism." Alfred Lansing's scrupulously researched and brilliantly narrated book -- with over 200,000 copies sold -- has long been acknowledged as the definitive account of the Endurance's fateful trip. To write their authoritative story, Lansing consulted with ten of the surviving members and gained access to diaries and personal accounts by eight others. The resulting book has all the immediacy of a first-hand account, expanded with maps and illustrations especially for this edition.

5 out of 5 stars Leaders aren't what they used to be.......2007-10-13

People bandy about the word "classic" without considering its significance, but this all-time bestseller will remain in print many more years. It's a true classic, ranking among the top adventure books. Nowhere will you find a more gripping account than Endurance, the survival story of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton and his crew of 27 men, in 1915. This cliff-hanger of a book stays with you. Could it be that today's leaders pale beside the likes of Shackleton?

5 out of 5 stars It is the story about what makes the British so different.......2007-10-12

Shackleton is always calm. He is resourceful and undaunted. He is not always right, many times he is just absolutely wrong. But his courage is simply breathtaking.

You must know many British famous sentences as those: "I am going out and will be for some time" or "Dr Livingstone, I presume".

Shackleton probably did not utter so famous remark. But still his above-the-all-odds behaviour makes him one of the greatest British heroes. And the mankind's. Read the story you will never forget. Read and think, how you could possibly behave in those utmost terrifying circumstances.

(I am Polish so my English is poor. Please forgive me).

4 out of 5 stars Mind boggeling.......2007-05-29

This is an amazing story of leadership, and man's ability to persevere under extraordinary circumstances. It is really unbelievable. I was staggered by the odds these men overcame and their determination to press on. The book is well written and easy to read.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing story.........2007-05-19

This is a great book that will make you feel as though any hardship you have ever encountered is really not so bad when you think about what these men endured. Imagine being cold, wet, hungry, tired for basically 2 years while in the back of your mind you know that the chances of ever seeing the civilized world is remote at best. These men handled it well. Very good historical account written based on interviews, historical accounts, and actual diaries of the men on the journey.

5 out of 5 stars Finest adventure book ever written.......2007-04-21

I am working my way through the top 100 Adventure Books of all time. This one is, so far, the best. It is the concatenation of several adventure books, since almost every type of mishap and obstacle is encountered. Shackleton must go down as a true hero, as well as his crew. The version of the book with the glossies in the middle was captivating... I spent a good bit of time staring at the remarkable pictures. The story of how those film plates survived this oddysey is, in itself, remarkable.

A good adventure would be ruined by poor writing. Lansing is superb and does credit to this story.

This story could never be made into the movie because it would be considered too "far-fetched" to be believable. Note that there is a documentary DVD that (in a nutshell) describes some of the story, as well as lets you see an interesting reunion of the Endurance crew's children. Try to get this video right after you read the book.

Book Description

For a long time, it looked like FedEx would never get off the ground. The company’s early years were an unending series of legal, financial, and operational crises that continually threatened its ability to stay in business. Yet FedEx's leaders and employees were incredibly resourceful and resilient. Pilots used personal credit cards to gas up planes, paychecks weren’t cashed, and in one of the most famous episodes, founder Fred Smith literally gambled the company’s last remaining funds to keep the planes flying. Becuase Roger Frock was with the companies from the start, he is able to chronicle these real-life hardships and hard-fought triumphs as only an insider can. With humor and insight, he describes how FedEx overcame impossible odds to become one of the world's greatest success stories, a revolutionary company that truly changed the way the world does business.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Jerry R........2007-10-14

This is a fun read... An instructive read....A great and understandable course in MBO, Team Building, and more, and a passinately written account of things in the early days of FedEx as Roger saw them.

Roger has presented his story of the birth of FedEx in a way that makes it difficult to put his book down, which is pretty unlikely for a book on the reading list of many Busines Admin classes. But I truly could not put the book down!

I loved the story of how Roger and his team worked for years to keep the company going. Once the Chairman took some company money, went to Vegas and brought back the winnings to keep FedEx in the air.

But there is so much more...there is a picture drawn of effective team building, management by objectives, and other business methods. The use of the business tools is not obvious as you read. However, upon examininating how Roger was able to build FedEx from zero, his techniques become obvious, also making it obvious why BusAd Profs are using his book. But ignoring the teaching aspect, you can simply sit back and enjoy a wonderful read, with some tense moments, even though we know the final outcome.

The other thing that comes through to me is the true goodness and honesty of Roger Frock. I saw it in him nearly 50 years ago, and I am pleased to see it reflected in his writings.

5 out of 5 stars A fascinating story........2007-08-02

It is hard to imagine what our lives would be like without the reliable overnight delivery system pioneered by FedEx. It is equally difficult to imagine the obstacles that had to be overcome to make this a viable business.

Roger Frock possesses two valuable attributes in telling the FedEx story. First of all he is the ultimate insider who started working with Fred Smith, the founder, before the company was even formed. Secondly, he writes well. The result is a fascinating book that can keep you up late at night.

This is a story about people who were captured by a dream, who lived that dream. The made the dream come true despite times when the dream verged into a nightmare. Not only did the company have to face the problems of a then government regulated industry, but also the OPEC oil embargo, well-established competitors in the air transportation industry and the constant need for venture capital.

Mr. Frock clearly develops the main events through each phase of the company's growth, showing how a committed, talented group of people can work together to make the impossible happen. Along the way he also illustrates solid business principles that can help any company seeking to set and achieve its goals.

5 out of 5 stars FedEx story delivers.......2007-05-23

FedEx is more than a household word; it is a household verb replacing the word "delivery" as in, "No worries, we'll FedEx this so they'll have it tomorrow." The story of this colorful company's history and the personalities that brought it to fruition is captivating - filled as it is with cliffhangers, dodged disasters and near failure. In the early days of Federal Express, nothing was a sure thing. Founder Fred Smith and his management team had to elude financial ruin while inventing an entirely new industry. Author and former FedEx general manager Roger Frock fondly recounts the tumultuous early days of the company, although you may wish he had shared more of his insight into the personality of Smith, who remains an elusive unknown. We recommend this book to those who enjoy rags-to-riches corporate stories or to anyone who relies on FedEx to deliver goods that "absolutely, positively have to be there overnight."

3 out of 5 stars Better than expected........2007-05-13

I am a business major and this book was required reading for one of my classes. The teacher said it was a very entertaining book, but seeing as his passion for life is 'management' I wasn't expecting much. But after an initial reading I actually began to get into the material, and was pleasantly suprised to find out that it was quite a good book. It was very interesting to see how the company went from nothing to what it is today, and how peoples lifes were affected by these changes. If you have the slightest interest in business or the transportation industry, I would recommend this item.

5 out of 5 stars Soul of a New Business.......2007-04-30

With apologies to Tracy Kidder!

Mr. Frock's saga, and it can be described only as that, chronicles the birth, development and maturity of FedEX, one of the most successful businesses in US business history. Fred Smith and the team he assembled to develop a really unique idea -- overnight small package delivery to anywhere in the United States -- demonstrated how vision, teamwork, integrity, and creativity CAN overcome daunting challenges. We almost take FedEx for granted now, but Mr. Frock, one of the original senior management team, tells how this was achieved. And the book is one of those page turners, unique really, because we all know how the story ends. But I literally could not put it down.

Some impressions: Mr. Frock tells the story well, making even some of the techical stuff understandable. I really enjoyed his sense of wonder and amazement he expresses at the challenges the company met and overcame. He places people and their personal achivements right where they belong in a story like this -- right in the middle. Mike Collins, the astronaut who orbited the moon while Armstrong and Aldrin landed, once expressed his feelings as the mission went forward: I think we are actually going to pull this off. It is easy to see Roger reaching some tough goal in the business saying that...

Another is the characterization of the formiable FedEx founder, Fred Smith. As Mr. Frock notes when most of senior management team was set to resign when it appeared Mr. Smith himself would be forced to resign in Board dispute: Was our decision to resign the right one? Absolutely! We felt great allegiance to our leader... But even Fred slipped once...but you need to read the bood to find out why. (And why he bet the FedEx checking account in a visit to Vegas...)

Finally, the last section of the book is FedEx's view of the people part of any successful business: an open door policy, security, fair treatment, and employees evaluating management. There are more, but as the story is told, one realizes these principles were actively applied to the the people who made (and make up) the organization.

A great story, well told. Highest marks.

5 out of 5 stars Simply an incredible, timeless book ..........2007-10-17

This book would be a fantastic story if it was written TODAY. It's even more incredible that it all happened in 1932-33.

There are so many levels to enjoy in this book ...

* The pure adventure of it all - setting out on a motorcycle (a 750 pound, 6-horsepower monster, no less!) to travel around the world in 1932. It simply is mind-boggling that he pulled it off.

* The observations he makes along the way and how relevant they are even today. His observations of Afghanistan, in particular give insights into what has always been a war-torn country. If Bush & Co. had read this book, maybe we'd have left well enough alone.

* His pure tenacity and luck to get in-and-out of the situations he stumbles into. Being in jail is just part of the gig, and he takes it all in stride.

* The writing itself ... clean, crisp, and engaging. I couldn't put this book down.

This book is fantastic whether or not you ride a motorcycle.

HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I really enjoyed this book; it was too soon over.

I have ridden motorcycles for many years and would liked to have seen more comments on the practical aspects of the trip, even though it was many years ago. I suspect that Mr. Fulton did not keep daily notes but probably wrote down his memories at the conclusion of the trip, thus the detail is not always there.

The portrait of the middle East gives something for the people of today something to think about - basic beliefs and attitudes in that region may not have changed at all. Our expectations may need to be adjusted.

A long trip on a motorcycle is an unforgettable experience for anyone, even today. Four or five days from home, and the resources available there, projects the rider into a state of independence and freedom that I have not found any other way - imagine what it was like for Fulton to be riding across the desert, months from home, no road in some cases, towards the unknown, his life dependent upon his machine continuing to run, and totally on his own.

Every rider should get to read this book - a great treat for the imagination.

5 out of 5 stars Best book i have ever read.......2007-01-04

I could not put this one down. The story is so fantastic that you almost can't believe it happened. To see the world a little as it was 70 years ago was truly a window into the past.

Robert Fulton is a suprizingly good author in that the book flows smoothly and he only talks about what he finds interesting.

5 out of 5 stars Great read for 'bikers' and other travellers!.......2005-08-02

In One Man Caravan, Robert Fulton has caught the magic of exploring new places and meeting people from cultures very different to his own. He writes with real fluency and his words evoke the graphic images of the colourful lands through which he takes the reader on this wonderful journey.

Book Description

Instinct told them that the way home lay to the west. And so the doughty young Labrador retriever, the roguish bull terrier and the indomitable Siamese set out through the Canadian wilderness. Separately, they would soon have died. But, together, the three house pets faced starvation, exposure, and wild forest animals to make their way home to the family they love. The Incredible Journey is one of the great children's stories of all time--and has been popular ever since its debut in 1961.

3 out of 5 stars The Incredible Journey Review.......2007-02-22

I think that the Incredible Journey Book is really good. I like it because it has lots of adventure and lots of different points of view. The beginning is pretty boring but gets exiting soon, like around the setting change. The things I don't like are the excessive phone-talk, and I-know-what-will-happen-feeling that it gives you. Overall I would rate it between Harry Potter and your barely-better-than-average book that you will find. The fun of it is that you never know the detailed parts outcome which has great effect in this book. I think it is very original to make the characters split up for some time and rejoin the others. I like the lazy feeling that I'm not interested. See you later -- don't care about friendship. These parts are very amusing. It may sound predictable of the ending but it is so exiting that you never consider thinking of a different part of the book because it's so addicting. I recommend this book to public readers.

4 out of 5 stars It really is an incredible journey.......2007-02-21

In the Incredible Journey by Shelia Burnford 3 animals go on a dangerous current owner (John Longbridge) is not clear but they somehow know their former owner is coming back.

Three animals venture from their own home off to their old home and encounter many dangers along the way. Not long after they leave they meet a bear who starts scratching and swiping at Bodger the bull terrier. Then a couple of days later they meet helpful Indians who feed the animals and clean Bodger's wounds. After a few hours they leave the Indians. When the animals come to a river Luath gets across it fine but has to encourage Bodger to come over. Once Bodger comes over the cat won't cross the river. When he finally does the dam breaks and Luath and Tao are swept away. They meet many other exciting dangers that I'll let you read about.

My favorite character was Bodger because he was the funniest.

I would recommend this book to 8-12 yr. olds because of challenging vocabulary. I would also recommend this to animal lovers and adventure readers.

The intro I thought it was an ok book. It's about animals who work together to get through dangerous obstacles. And death defying stunts just to get to their home and family's. It's about two dogs and a cat named sassy.
Id says if you like bears and dangerous adventures. You'd love this book. And its incredible details. And lots of punctuation. It's a pretty good book if you like animals.
There are many other characters. Like loath and sassy and much more. Has danger family and lots of animals. You'd really get a kick out of this book. The cat falls off a waterfall and luckily it survives. Its really interesting think you would love this book it has lots of details.
There are many other settings in this book. And lots of adventures. Dangerous bears and lots of fresh trees. Lots of punctuation and creatures. The animals encounter a bear and they luckily get away.
Do you like animals and danger? This b book you would like. It's filled with action and near death. This book is such a good book people read it around the world. I think the book was interesting around the end and the middle.

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Journey Home.......2006-12-14

The Incredible Journey is a great and heartwarming book. It is about three animals (an old Bull Terrier, a young Labrador retriever, and a feisty Siamese cat) who set out to find their master and family. It was a dangerous but wonderful journey. This book made me feel like I was actually there in the Canadian wilderness. I think anyone who loves animals and adventure would like this book.

This long journey through the Canadian wilderness was dangerous. The three animals encounter many obstacles. While in the wilderness the terrier heard some wrestling in the leaves. When he turned around he saw a baby black bear. He was not afraid until the bear started to tackle him. The bear's sharp claws made deep wounds in the side of the old dogs shoulder. When the Labrador heard the fighting he came from behind the bear to help the terrier. The Labrador started to growl at the baby bear and then the bear left. The cat also encountered danger. He was chased by a Lynx who seemed very hungry and looking for food. The Lynx almost captured the cat until the cat found a small burrow and hid from the Lynx. The Lynx was too big for the burrow and after many attempts to get the cat he did not succeed. While the Lynx was making this noise to get the cat a young boy who was hunting with his father shot the Lynx because he thought the Lynx was going to eat him. While the Labrador was hunting he found a porcupine and went to go eat it but the porcupine was to fast and shot some quills at the lab's cheek. As a result the lab caught an infection. Through all these obstacles the animals survived because they stayed together and watched out for each other.

The wonderful part of the book was the companionship of the animals and their love for each other. They seemed to have human like qualities. The Labrador helped the cat and dog across a river, the animals shared food, and comforted each other. They made sure that they would all end the journey together.

The animals also encountered many people along their journey. Some people did not help the animals like the farmer whose dog attacked the Labrador and the old terrier. Mackenzie and Nell were farmers who helped the dogs. Mackenzie took the quills out of the Labradors face, cleaned out the infection and gave him soft food to eat. They also gave the terrier food and milk to fatten him up because his ribs where showing under his fur.

This book was truly an inspiration. I would recommend The Incredible Journey to anyone over ten years old. The book has many adjectives and hard words which made it difficult to read sometimes. I hope if my animals ever went on a journey they would stay together and come back home.

Sam and Max Stone just can't wait for spring break. Mr. Stone has a job to do in the Cayman Islands, and they will be going there, too. What a great way to spend spring break! Odd things start happening to Max and Sam after they find out they are going to the Cayman Islands. Two mysterious boxes arrive on their doorstep. One contains an ancient leather bound journal, and the other an old, frail map. A notation on the map indicated that it was made over 40 years ago, but across the top was printed "Max and Sam's Incredible Journey Map." Mom doesn't know where the boxes came from, either.

Unusual, funny events seem to plague the two boys, but their plane finally arrives at their Caribbean destination. Then they overhear a telephone conversation and discover that a guy on the beach may be one that was shown on national television on the America's Most Wanted program. After they spot a tell-tale parrot tattoo on his stomach as he relaxes in a beach chair the kids are certain that it is the wanted man.

The adventurous boys plot to help catch this frightening character, and the action escalates and the kids find themselves in great danger. Then they discover a shocking secret about their father and his reason for coming to the Caymans.

Max and Sam are engaging characters that manage to get themselves tangled in peril and excitement in this fast-paced adventure that takes place in an exotic setting. Connie Lee Berry has crafted a hard-to-put-down, lively, funny story, filled with mysteries and secrets. The illustrations add visual interest, and the back pages of the book have interesting facts about the Cayman Islands, tell you how you can join the Incredible Journey Club, and submit your own science projects and fun poems to be included in future INCREDIBLE JOURNEY books. What fun!

5 out of 5 stars I am a survivor!.......2000-01-09

I can't say enough good words about this book or its contents. It was given to me as a gift from a friend after I had already undergone treatments. I try to make sure I give it to friends either before or during treatments. I don't want them to waste a minute dwelling in a negative mindset. This book teaches wonderful lessons about how to train yourself to have a positive and incredibly uplifting outlook on your illness.

I am still ordering copies as, unfortunately, the need increases. The fact that it is written by a man and from a man's perspective has helped many of my male friends to be more open to reading it. That is yet another postive.

I hope you also find value in this books contents.

The book is short and easy reading and very much to the point. It has helped me to stay positive and remain cancer-free for one and a half years so far. Cancer is not in my vocabulary anymore and will continue to stay that way. I highly recommend it to anyone with cancer or for their loved ones.

Max and Sam learn that Mr. Stone is being sent to the exotic island of Tahiti for work, and they accompany him in this new INCREDIBLE JOURNEY adventure. It's a last-minute dash to get ready and to the airport in time for their flight. Everything seems to delay them, but they finally board the plane.

They are ushered to a small, rickety hut; no fancy hotel like they had in the Caymans. However, the hut does have a beach and the ocean in the backyard. Though Mom is less than excited about the prospect, camping in paradise might be fun...

When the boys find a jar buried beneath the floor of the hut containing what appears to be an old treasure map, dated 1904, the adventure begins. Mr. Stone agrees to take the boys to a nearby island by canoe, where they come across signs that warn them off the island. The signs seem to be very old. Then Max and Sam remember rumors that the bounty from a bank robbery many years ago was hidden on an island.

Could the treasure map lead them to this cache of stolen money? Their interest piqued, the boys decide to explore the island and they find more trouble than they bargained for. They aren't the only ones looking for the loot, and the guy that confronts them on the island is out to make sure that they don't tell anyone about him.

Connie Lee Berry continues the exciting series with compelling characters, fast action, and lots of laughs. The illustrations add visual impact to the story, and Berry includes historical items and interesting facts about the location, cool science projects, and a poem in the back of the book.

Watch for upcoming INCREDIBLE JOURNEY books, Adventure in Africa (Incredible Journey Books series) and Pirates in Paradise (Incredible Journey Books series), available in October 2007.

Tammy Yee put together a very nice book on Hawaii's green sea turtle, the honu. This story really is about the adventures and trials all newly hatched sea turtles go through. When you are small, the world is full of predators! I use this book to read to first through third graders.

The paintings are stylized, and cute. Can you visualize a flying honu? How about a honu dreaming in his egg? Yee integrates some Hawaiian words into the text, and provides a glossary in the back. A Hawaiian word not in the glossary is "keiki", or children. My book is inscribed "For the keiki, may you have an incredible journey!! With warm aloha, Tammy Yee."

This book puts a smile on your face.
